And here's what I got.

1. mook

A term coined by Douglas Rushkoff in an episode of PBS's "Frontline" entitled "The Merchants of Cool." Mooks are archetypal young males(teens-early 20s) who act like moronic boneheads. They are self centered simpletons who live a drunken frat-boy lifestyle(or are frat-boys). Examples can be found anytime someone watches "Jackass." Rushkoff claimed that the media glorifies this ideal and stifles natural self expression, however, some people might argue teenage boys have always acted like morons(its actually a long-standing stereotype). Nonetheless, standardized conformist dummy-culture behind a veneer of exhuberance is a scary notion indeed.

Muddyman, the main merchant of cool.

Gotta Love it.

Their is another explanation of this word in Brooklyn. On an episode of the HoneyMooners Norton was to call Ralphie a MOAX , which is some kinda word not used anymore, I have no idea of it's meaning. Instead Art Carney pronounced it Mook. Now I dont know how true this is I was less than 10 years old but here is when the word took off in my South Brooklyn Neighborhood.

Martin Scorcesse put out his first film MEAN STREETS which could have been about 100 guys in my hood. Harvey Keitel and Robert Di Niro are in it Well DiNiero owes this Bookie some bread and he goes to the local pool hall to explain to the bookie and his bone readjuster why he doesnt have the money. As things would have it a fight breaks out and in the scene The huge guy playing the bonecrusher has Kitels head in a headlock and he's poundin him saying "YOU CANT CALL ME A MOOK, HEY PAULIE WHATS A MOOK!"

NOW THE INTERSTING PART:In the backround of the scene is a small black and white TV and plaing on that TV is the HONEYMOONERS. CHECK IT OUT

So after the movie became popular people in the hood took off calling each other a Mook and the other person would say HEY PAULIE WHAT"S a Mook!

Now Mook can mean several things in South Brooklyn Depends on where you put the word and how you say uit

1. If I see you and say Hey Mook Whats Up means were friends, just a couple of blue collar knock around guys and we probabllycome from the same block VERY COOL MOOK!!!!!!!

2. Unskilled laborer: A job posting would literally go something like: Brownstone rehab starting Needed Plumber,Carpenter, electrician and 2 mooks; The 2 mooks here is not an insult means they are gonna be the guys humpin stuff in and out and cleaning up

3.Suit Mook: Laweyer, politician or Land Lord BAD MOOK!!!!!!!!

4. Stoop Mook: if you are unemployed and hang out on the stoop( Brookllyn for porch) and gossip all day THE WORST KINDA MOOK

There are actually To many kinds of Mooks to explain it all!!!!!!! When I use it it's usually to say friend or Pisano WHats up mook>>>>>>>(BAD LUCK) OH MAN IVE BEEN MOOKED>>>>>>>>or to point out something funny or stoopid(Brooklyn spelling) WHAT A MOOK!!!!!!!!!! like somone said something funny also or if you ar e the brunt of something fuuny or did something happened to you IVE BEEN MOOKED

Thats my story and I am sticking to it 8-)
