Jenks Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Well does anyone here dip? What brand? I just started dippin cope black. I thought it was going to be really good, but it turned out to be just okay. Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 JMHO but.... I see no reason to spend money on a product that causes tooth decay, cancer, harms the imune system and tastes bad. Quote
justfishin Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I am glad you just started, it won't be so hard to quit. I dipped Skoal for the last 12 years and just gave it up about 3 months ago. My friend dipped and got mouth cancer which was enough to scare the hell out of me. Its one of the hardest things I ever did. I don't even think about it now. Please, quit while you can. Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 16, 2007 Super User Posted March 16, 2007 I'm another who quit kind of recently... september 15th after over 20 years. I only ever met one person that beat mouth/throat cancer. And he's missing parts of his mouth and throat. Take the word of experience on this one. Quitting now will save you thousands of dollars over time, not to mention might just save your life. Good luck, friend, I hope you choose freedom. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted March 16, 2007 Super User Posted March 16, 2007 Can a day for the last 7 years. Quit now. Being a slave to ground up plant parts, is not very cool. Quote
bassin_man Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Not for me. I did break into peer pressure once when most of my friends dipped when I was younger. I tried it a couple times and it just wasn't for me. Thank God. Same way for smoking. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 16, 2007 Super User Posted March 16, 2007 Jenks , listen to these guys , they know what they are talking about ! Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 16, 2007 Super User Posted March 16, 2007 Somewhere in the middle of may makes three years of no skoal. It was tough, but worth it. The longer you use, the harder it is to quit. Quote
logger Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 They are right on about chewing. I have a buddy who has a lump on his jaw from it, I quit after 7 years on and off, and wish I never started. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. Besides every can is like one less fishing lure you could have bought. By the way did you know a few facts about chewing tobacco 1. 1 dip hasapproximately equal to the nicotine in 7 cigarettes. 2. There is embalming fluid, rocket fuel, arsenic, formedahyde and about 3,500 other chemicals in it. 3. 20 of the chemicals are known to cause cancer. Just trying to look out for you dude. Oh and incase you never heard of it this is called hairy tongue and it's also caused by chewing. And this is really a condition, look it up if you don't believe me! Quote
justfishin Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I know this is a very serious subject but, why do I have this feeling that Muddy and Avid are going to comment on the hairy tongue? Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 17, 2007 Super User Posted March 17, 2007 Listen to the guy's man. Quit while you still can. A fishin buddy of mine dips. He's only 15, I'm begging him to stop. That's some nasty stuff. Quote
timmyswetarded Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 plus your 17, its illegal, which probably doesnt matter, but whoever is selling/buying it for you is committing a more serious offense and your putting that person in danger as well as yourself *stepping down off the soap box* Quote
Fishin49er Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Look at it this way if you don't get addicted to tobacco you will have more money to spend on your fishing addiction, I know I have one. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 17, 2007 Super User Posted March 17, 2007 One thing that the other responders haven't mentioned. You always have to find a place to spit, so you are ALWAYS looking for a container to spit into. I am a smoker, and I have a disgusting and, ultimately fatal, habit. The most disgusting habit, next to mine, would be yours. Spit, spit, spit. It nauseates me to look at a habit more filthy than mine. Don't do it. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 17, 2007 Super User Posted March 17, 2007 I watched a guy die from mouth cancer last year. He came into the hospital with the left side of his head, from his nose down to his shoulder swollen and oozing a nasty yellow/bloody puss. A day later they had removed that part of his face and replaced it with the skin from one of his butt cheeks and part of his leg. A week and a half later his kidneys and liver shut down and he died. He is now a statistic. Not many people survive mouth and throat cancer. It usually spreads into the lymph nodes before it is detected and once it is there it spreads throughout the body. Quote
NATHAN_JAMES Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 SUNFLOWER SEEDS....you get to chew and spit and it should take care of your oral fixaction. plus your girl won't make you brush your teeth before you kiss her. Quote
HUNTER19 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 i used cope long cut for a few years about three cans a week that was 24 bucks a week!!!!!!!!! but really man chewin isnt good!!!! there is no point in it!!! just think of all the fishin stuff you could buy if you werent chewin!!! Quote
jdw174 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Been there and done that. Quit NOW and don't look back. Quote

May I also suggest Pistachio's - Love them. I started chewing when I was around 13. Late in my teens started smoking and continued both until I 25. Quitting was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It almost has to be a lifestyle change. Fortunately I had a lot of support from girlfriend (now wife), family and friends. Quit now while you are young and new to this - you will be so happy you did later in life - trust me and the others on this. Good luck. Quote
