Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted March 10, 2007 Super User Posted March 10, 2007 Grilling some steaks tonight and the idiot I am decided to grab the hot grill grate ............ OUCH!!!!!!!!!! I grabbed it between my thumb and index finger, but the thumb took the worst part of it. It immediately started blistering a little. It happened almost 3 hours ago and it still hurts like hell. Anybody got any home remedies??? I have been trying to keep an ice cube on it. It seems to help, but the minute I take it off, it starts hurting again. I have a Photoshop assignment due by midnight tonight so I need the use of my hand. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted March 10, 2007 Super User Posted March 10, 2007 I used to get burnt alot, I always stuck with Visine and Cheetos Haven't done that in a couple years though. Seriously, I keep a potted aloe vera plant. I just break open a couple stalks and slather the goo on. Works well. Quote
frogtog Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Turn your stove on and hold the finger as close as you can stand. this will draw the head out. Hurry! No time to waste Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 11, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 11, 2007 Get some Aloe Vera cream/gel and slather it on. Keep reapplying it often for several days. DO NOT cover it or wrap it with anything. Aspirin can help reduce the swelling and pain a little. Quote

After I tried all the dumb home remedies I found on the web (honey, soy sauce, mustard, potato) I resorted to the aloe vera. The pain is pretty much gone, but it's starting to blister. I was hoping to get on the water Monday and Tuesday for the first time. I hope this won't put me on the DL . BTW - Everytime I get a burn like this, it really puts what burn victims go through in perspective. I have a little square inch area on my thumb that absolutely hurt like hell for a good 5 to 7 hours. Over large portions of your body .......... :-[i can only imagine Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 11, 2007 Super User Posted March 11, 2007 KU, My whole family (immediate and extended) uses mustard. regular french's mustard. apply it thick and let it stay on there until it dries completely. It will draw most of the pain out and will actually help it heal a day or two faster. Aloe also works but mustard has always worked better/faster for me. edited to add- reapply after dry if you are going to be awake longer, the more times you do it the better it will work. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 11, 2007 Super User Posted March 11, 2007 Drop a deep cycle battery on your foot. You'll forget all about your burn. ;D Quote
radiob Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Staple gun to the head draws the pain in your thumb out, actually it goes away Quote
Water Dog Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 These boys must like you with all of the good advice that you are getting. ;D Like my grandpa used to say when I mashed my finger, "boy looks like that woulda hurt" and then smile real big. Aloe Vera if you have it, a chewing tobacco poltice should help, I need to try that mustard ID. They used to recommend urine on battlefield burns, might try that... Quote
Bass Smacker Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 My grandpa use to tell me "That will feel real good as soon as it stops hurtin" Quote
Guest avid Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 i'm with 4B on this one. I have an Aloe vera plant growin in the kitchen. I have done this since the 70's. Immediatly after a burn, break off a piece, they are thick and then squeeze the thick clear "juice" and rub it into the burned area. It is without a doubt the best. It will sting a little at first but that quickly changes to a soothing feeling and the redness and pain will fade quickly. Depending on the severity, it is typical for the injury to have no blister and just some redness. keep doing it till cured. Quote
