You're not going to scare fish listening to music.  That old tale your dad told you about noise scaring fish is not exactly true.  Any noise above the water does not penetrate the water surface.  Music, talking, etc does not effect fish.  What does effect them is noise/vibrations in the water.  Your boat motor, trolling motor, stuff being dropped on the bottom of your boat, a lure splashing in the water can at times scare off fish.  So if you want to sing along at the top of your lungs to Bad Moon Rising or Proud Mary, have at it (but be considerate of other boaters around you.)

As far as types of music, I like rock and classic country(like Cash, Willie, Ronnie Milsap, etc.) but I usually don't listen to any while fishing.  I like the quietness and the nature sounds when I am out.

I don't know for a fact if it effects the fish or not, but i personally don't think music bothers them at all.

My personal best was caught when we had ZZ TOP playing , maybe they like ZZ idk lol . But as far as music goes i listen to music alot when i fish and has never kept me from catching fish.

Classic Rock!!!

You be the judge....this is a shot under my console  :o ---> Music on the boat

Seriously, I don't listen to the stereo system on my boat when fishing very often, I too like the peace of the outdoors. But when it's hot out and we are just playing on the water....crank it up baby! LOL

Trust me, If I ever added a system to my boat, it would effect the fishing. Dropping the thermos on the floor has nowhere near the same impact as a 12" sub firing a 20khz test tone.

8-)

We could make waves I bet. Mythbusters??

Besides, both of us can sing like coyotes,...who needs music? ;D

If I had a bigger boat, I would have a system like Hawg_Hunters for the downtime but not for fishing.

I carry a portable radio/ CD player all the time, KYKX 105.7 FM Longview, Texas broadcast weather alerts for area lakes. They sponsor many tournaments on area lakes including the Big Bass Bonanza so if I aint got a CD on I listen to them. I've been doing this since 1982 when I fished their 3rd annual tournament and have never seen listening to a radio affect my fishing.

H is for Haggard.

Amen to that.  Just went to a concert this weekend, it was George Strait, and Ronnie Milsap opened for him.  The first half of the show was better than they second half in my opinion.

I don't listent o music much when i am fishing, I enjoy the quiet.  If I do turn on the radio - I have Sirius and an Ipod installed in the Z22.  My music choices are abit more mellow.  ;)

No scuba folks here?  Go down there and watch what happens when the boat above you starts up.  Can't hear it?  I can.  Sound definately penetrates water.

Sounds from the boat above certainly put fish on the aware, you can see it plain as day when you're down there.  The sound is as intrusive as you are.  BUT, just like they do concerning you, they eventually adapt and go about their business.

You become structure,lol.

i agree with LBH, sound definitely penetrates water. i have been in the keys in 10-15 feet of water and you can hear/feel the vibes from the radio in the boat. however, my friends in the boat have the music blasting, but you can definitely hear/feel it. i have also heard the constant pinging of a boats electronics. thank god for ipods.
