She said I was mean SOB I did find I was yelling more at my son. Hey it can be done just have to have faith in yourself and god. Good luck Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 I have chewed for the last seven years. I have been at a can a day for the last 5. I have broken an addiction to cigarettes, alchohol, and a recreational prescription medication problem(pain killers, muscle relaxers, and valium). I don't do street drugs anymore either. But chewing has me by the balls. I have "quit" twice. Four days and eight days respectively. I have been chewing NON STOP 15-20 hours a day for years. It is a horrible monkey to have on your back everyday. I've got a three finger in as we speak. You will have to quit for yourself, and no one else. Both times, I was not totally committed and as soon as a stressful situation arose, I folded. Do it for yourself, that is the only way you will be able to do it. If it is so YOU can see your grandkids someday then go for it. I would like to think I am a strong enough person to beat it, and hopefully you are too. Wish you the best. Jay Quote
Danceswithbass Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I've had a running battle with chewing and smoking for the past 30 yrs. I have been tobacco free for 13 months now and Im have no urges to go back at all. I chewed redman and smoked menthol cigs since @ '75. But I decided I'd had better quit. I have worked my tail off all these yrs to retire at a lake and fish every day, I'll be damned if Im going to let tobacco screw that up. I used the patch from walmart, It seemed to help with the urges. I also eat sunflower seeds like a fricken parakeet, but it better than going back to chew. I wish someone would come up with a safe alternative to chew that was good, they would make a mint. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Iam going to try quiting tonight. I finshed a can and iam like iam done. Some of the guys on here rember I said I was done last spring. Well I got back in to fishing and it came back to me about 4 months i was clean I broke. One of the first things I did was put in a pinch before i even tied a lure on. My buddy is going to kill me. He liked to take a few pinches of my dip when he didn't have any. But now I hope I stay clean. Iam reall sick and tired of my buddies girl friend geting on my case about diping. I swear shes on my case more then shes on his case. So I wish you the best of luck. Quote
Bluecraw Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Here's an incentive, take your dip money and save it everyday: 1 can/day = $5/day 365 days/year X $5/day = $1,829/year $1,829/year X 11 years = $20,000 $20,000 = NEW BASS BOAT!!!!!! Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted February 28, 2007 Dang bluecraw, You make me sick looking at it the way you put it. I spent about 40k on chew since i started. And thats without interest. Plaese don't add up all the sodas and candy bars Quote
bocabasser Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 are you still dip free bassn? keep it up bro. Quote
codogs Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I just quit cold turkey on Feb 18th after chewing for 17 years. It's been a tough 11 days so far, but it really is getting better. The first 2-3 days were really rough. I've been leaning on sun flower seeds (I recommend the jalapeno one's), mint snuff and gum. This weekend I'm firing up the dehydrator and making jerky. My 5 month old son is my motivation. When it gets tough, I think of him having a dad without a lower jaw, or worse, not having a dad at all. That keeps me on track... Quote
Ifishthere4Iam Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Istarted chewing Copenhagen in 1978, and ended up with a 1 can per day habit. On Feb. 5, 2005 I took my last chew. Basically I was just tired of being controlled by it. The only trick I used was any time I craved a chew, I told myself "thats not who you are anymore" I was able to believe that, and seriously, the whole thing was fairly effortless. I am however, aware that If I decide to take just one dip ever, I will again be hooked, so I don't even consider doing it. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 3, 2007 Author Super User Posted March 3, 2007 Well it has been 8 days since I threw the can out. For me it was a tough 3 days getting over the initial shock of not having a chew after dinner or when fishing. Fishing w/out chew has to be the hardest to refrain from though. To make it worse, I was served more child support papers from my ex-wife. She said she desreves a raise since I had one. I paid that @#$@$ 1k every month for 12 yrs w/out ever being late and all she wants is more. Now I'm venting, Sorry. Anyway, I did try one pinch from can I found in my truck that I forgot was there. Kept the chew in for like 2 minutes and spit it out. The craving is gone but I do miss it sometimes. Like when I'm fishing. This sounds silly but I feel as though I'm going to get mouth cancer now that I quit. Quote
