MNGeorge Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 We have never tried Wacky Rigging, but from reading about it here, it sounds like something we want to add to our list of presentations. Is the amount/thickness of the cover the determining factor whether to Wacky Rig or Texas Rig or are there other considerations also? When do you use which and why? Quote
smallieking Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 o yea the simple wacky rig is not weedless at all. there are weedless ways to rig the wacky rig, im not sure how but im pretty sure it gets complicated Quote
BassinBoy Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I do wacky once in a while in the spring. Texas is better though. Quote
CL Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 you could always use a weedless hook with a wacky setup. i even used a weedless hook with a texas setup for fun last week so i could leave the hook sticking out. didn't seem to hurt a bit. Quote
Fish MD Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I wacky a lot. I use Gamkatsu extra wide gap weedless 2/0 hooks with a 4 or 5 inch Senko with an o-ring rigged dead center then just hook the worm barely through the o-ring. In extra clear water I will stretch the worm first to create more action. It is SUPER weedless but the hook is on the small size but I have never had issues hooking into big fish or break offs. Most of my hits come on the fall and, for me, it is a super effective but slow method. You can speed up the presentation and mimic a jerk bait style (kinda) and still get reaction hits. However bouncing or dragging the bottom had been most effective for me. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 24, 2008 Super User Posted April 24, 2008 I usually wacky rig my senko after both ends are torn up by fish when I had it rigged texposed. Using an O ring cuts down on torn baits, and using a weedless hook is a must around heavy cover. Quote
dman Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I went down the side of a pond today ( bout 150 yards ) fishing a Senko, a tube and a trap....I got 2 fish early, one on the trap and one on the tube....For my route back i wacky rigged my Senko and i got 6 much larger Bass on it...Some days the wacky bite is just on! Joel W Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Given the choice I always opt to wacky rig. For starters the unweighted fall is horizontal, and just drivers the Bass crazy. I also wacky rig to skip a 4 or 5 inch stickbait under brush and or overhangs. (No docks on the NYC reservoirs). Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 25, 2008 Super User Posted April 25, 2008 I catch so many wacky rigging that I rarely use a Tx rig any more. I fish it in the thickest cover where one would use a Tx rig. and so far in depths down to 30'-haven't tried deeper yet. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 25, 2008 Super User Posted April 25, 2008 Try a Weightless Texas Rigged Trick Worm with a 1 nail inserted in the tail to get the same horizontal fall as a Wacky Rig. Oh yea it's weedless Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 25, 2008 Super User Posted April 25, 2008 Weedless wacky is not complicated: Quote
