lunchbox508 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I talked to a guy at walmart and here in texas they are getting all new flw products for 2007 thats why everything is so cheap and there are red tags everywhere. But as far as he knows thats only here in texas, but he wouldnt say anything about them stopping the sale of guns and ammo. Quote
fishbear Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I just talked the the Manager of the sporting goods at my local WM. The company as a whole is getting out of the gun business according to him. This store was #5 for Wal marts nationwide in gun sales this last year, the other 4 were in TX. He said it is gonna kill his department... but they are continuing to sell fishing and other sporting goods. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 There's a few FLW products I've been very happy with. I've used their French Fry worms for carolina riggin in the past and had alot of success with them. I think I picked up an FLW jig or two and like those as well. Overall, the FLW stuff isn't a large percentage of the overall sales floor in fishing at my Walmart. Quote
lunchbox508 Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 I talked to him again cause i had to go back to pick something up and he said that anything that is discounted will more than likely be replaced with a newer product. BTW: i live 10 minutes from 3 walmart superstores and it is awesome, The closest one is within walking distance. Quote
frogtog Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 With a lot of kids not being raised and carried fishing in this new era of life WalMart can't handel the liability of carrying guns any more :-[ Quote
Triton21 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I got 36 FLW jigs yesterday for .25 cents each. Kelley Quote
Fisher of Men Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Hey Triton, Our's still has them for $1 each. I did, however snag my Minn Kota time, temp, and water temp. gauge for 7 bucks. It was regular $20, and I figured I couldn't wait them out anymore. I also picked up some Tiki lizards for $1 a pack and some split shot weights for 25 cents. I hate to hear that about the gun business at Wal-mart. But,then again, if the Sporting Goods departments at WM go out it should open the door for the Mom/Pop dealers again. The downside of that is that we suffer with higher prices locally. I wonder if the slow demise of WM's sporting goods departments has anything to do with all the Cabela's, Academy's, BPS's, and Gander Mountains showing up everywhere? Quote
Super User Root beer Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 I believe reason why wal-mart has stop selling guns in areas. Because a year or two ago a woman up north in New York or Maine or somewhere up north. She was depressed and bought a cheap gun from wal-mart and 5 hours later she commited suicide. So thus the family sued wal-mart for selling her the gun, etc. So I think wal-mart going to end up having to get rid of guns in a lot of areas. I could be wrong, but there was a case a year or two ago a family sued wal-mart for selling gun to that person. Quote
lunchbox508 Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 well if thats the case then Mcdonalds should stop serving coffee since that old woman burned her self!!!!! Touche' > The whole gun selling has gotten out of control. just raise the age higher in order to purchase a gun and then everything will be ok! Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 Man i love WM when they clearance stuff ill drive 100 miles to any i see on the way When u can walk in a WM with 50 bucks and walk out with 250 300 bucks worth of fishing stuff its a great feeling Quote
Super User Root beer Posted February 17, 2007 Super User Posted February 17, 2007 Well there are gun restriction sales by new york laws and stuff. So that might been why. I dont know the whole story the correct way. This is what I know Some girl bought a gun from wal-mart, commited sucicide, and family sued wal-mart. Quote
Danceswithbass Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I talked to the manager of one of the super walmarts here in Okla. City. He said ever since Mr Walton's daughter has become more involved, the store is moving more towards housewares and other areas and away from fishing / hunting. He said his dept. has been reduced in size every year now for 4 years in a row. Im not trying to blame it on a woman, just stating facts. Its funny though, if you go to the old wal marts in small towns, especially the one's near a lake, they have a great hunting and fishing dept. Just like they used to a few years ago at all the stores. I doubt they stopped selling guns because of a law suit because when you buy a gun, you sign a federal document stating that you are of sound mind. So if you commit a crime with the gun, you cant blame the place that sold it to you. I know the Democrats are trying to go after gun manufacture to blame them for crimes committed with their guns but the NRA is fighting them. Thank God for the NRA. The stores around here have a lot of stuff marked down right now, I just picked up a suspending rogue for $2 and some rattling carolina rig weights for $1 cant beat that. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Dance, You mentioned "housewares, etc." in your post. If you look at what target is doing, WM might be trying to follow their lead. It's like Target is trying to appeal to the "upper" middle-class market with designer items everywhere (prices a little higher as well). I saw that same Suspending Rogue as well, but it was in some funky color scheme that I didn't think would work. The temps here are supposed to be in the 70's this week. I'm looking forward to using some of my new tackle this weekend. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 19, 2007 Super User Posted February 19, 2007 The whole gun selling has gotten out of control. just raise the age higher in order to purchase a gun and then everything will be ok! I hope you're being facetious. Quote
lunchbox508 Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Well see im a hunter too and im just saying make the age higher to purchase a gun then you dont have a problem with kids buying guns and shooting up schools. I personally dont think walmart should stop selling guns. I was talking to someone at walmart and they said kids buying guns is one of their main concerns.Thats why i say raise the age. Quote
logger Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Just went to Wall Mart still no sales. However Gander Mountain had some Mann's crankbaits for $1.99 I picked up a few of course as they are normally over $4 ea. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 Well see im a hunter too and im just saying make the age higher to purchase a gun then you dont have a problem with kids buying guns and shooting up schools. I personally dont think walmart should stop selling guns. I was talking to someone at walmart and they said kids buying guns is one of their main concerns.Thats why i say raise the age. You do realize that virtually every 'school shooter' did not purchase a gun themselves. Take Columbine for example. Those guns were acquired via straw purchase by one of their girlfriends. They were not of legal age to purchase firearms. How would increasing the age one must be in order to purchase long arms have stopped that incident? 99% (obviously I'm oversimplifying) of guns used in crimes are stolen or otherwise acquired by illegal means. An age limit will not do anything to remedy that problem. Gun manufacturers and retailers can not be held responsible for misuse of a item once it has left their premises. If the offending party lies on the 4473 in order to acquire the firearm, then they are to blame, not the retailer. The bottom line is that if someone wants a gun in order to commit a crime, they are going to get it. Be it from the illegal gun market or via a straw purchase. The only thing that banning all firearms will accomplish is ensuring that only criminals will posess arms. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 The only thing that banning all firearms will accomplish is ensuring that only criminals will posess arms. AMEN to that!! Quote
lunchbox508 Posted February 20, 2007 Author Posted February 20, 2007 Touche' You make good points Burley. Im with you on this now I understand what you are saying. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 21, 2007 Super User Posted February 21, 2007 Check out the back page color ad in the lastest FLW magazine. It is from Wal-Mart pushing FLW products. I think Wal-Mart is still in the fishing business. Quote
Zel Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Went to Walmart today at lunch. Was looking to pick up 2 baitcaster rods. Got 2 Quantum Tournament Grade IM8's for $7.00 each. Also, I was looking to get a second fish finder to put on the used boat I just bought (and had a Eagle Cuda 250 installed with the purchase). They had the Eagle Cuda 168 on sale for $15.00 (the manager said he thinks the home office made a mistake), so I snatched it up. Quote
Water Dog Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Wally World helps to keep the rest of them honest. Got some long sleeved shirts on sale at Dick's SG for $7.00. Dick's had some good prices on grubs and variety that I hadn't seen also. Need to check back with Wal-Mart to see what they've put out lately... Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I have a friend who is the sporting goods dept mgr at one of our local wmarts.Concerning gun sales he says that some of the stores will stop selling guns, but the stores that are top gun sellers will keep on selling. For example ,we have 3 wmarts in town. Two of the stores will eventually stop selling(and that will be a while in coming),and the top seller store will continue to sell guns.He maintains that wmart doesn't make a load of money on gun sales because of their big markdown, and with the threat of lawsuits springing up everywhere they are cutting their losses. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 As for fishing,my mgr friend at wmart reports that wmart is definately NOT getting out of the fishing biz.In fact, they are expanding to sell more of the top, higher priced items.Of course, they won't be AS high priced at wmart. Quote
