I know many of you southern folk think we are nuts up here but the first real cold snap of the year is here and I'm kinda psyched to get out on a route today.

With a cold week, everything here is set up perfectly for a good deep freeze today.  I really love this time of year.  First snow, first good freeze, I love it.

I'll see if I can grab a few pics today to show you why.  Even the bay is freezing around the edges right now(saltwater).  Very cool.

Everyone up north, protect those fingers and ears today!!

Russ, have fun out there today but be careful. It seems here in S.E. Michigan the first snowfal brings out the crazies. They all forget how to drive in the snow.

Rick

P.S. we're getting our first substantial snowfall of the year here also. What a day to bring home the new car.

Its finally turned cold here too.....and the winter will probably drag on until April, like usual. Seems the seasons are off now,it used to get cold in late November but for the past 3-4 years it hasnt got cold until late January and the winter just drags on and on. I think the earths rotation is off or something.

Like LBH, I like the seasons.  About this time of year though I really start looking forward to spring.  My batteries are fully recharged and I am ready to start fishing again.

Well, It wasn't a snow day but it was that snapping cold that reminds you that you're alive, lol.

Not much scenery today, but here are a couple pics anyway

Nice photos, Russ. Brrrr. . .  I took the dog out for a long walk through the farm fields yesterday and marveled the entire time how the cold seemed not to affect her at all. She was as frisky as ever and made all of her usual sniffing stops. I get such a kick out of people who put sweaters on their dogs this time of year. Loaded up the bird feeders last night and put some extra seed on the ground. Tonight's going to be brutal for birds.

At Lowe's on Friday night, I noticed all the seed packets are out on display, and the gardening stuff is getting stocked. Go figure.

LBH after living in Wyoming for ten years where it got to -45 below zero with a wind chill of -100 below on occasion I rarely feel really cold anymore especially now that I am back home in my native state of Arkansas.  I do however get some strange looks when I wear shorts and a t-shirt when it is 40 degrees here! (Heat wave ) ;)

Nice photos LBH.

I like the snow and don't mind driving in it at all.  It is the ice that gets ya.

Saturday it is going up in the 40's here. I've been waiting to install a tow hitch. Figured 20 degrees was too cold to lay on the garage floor, but 40's, I may not even turn the heat on out there. Besides, the instructions sayt it is a 20 minute job!! ::)

Snow stinks!

I'm tired of running the snow blower already, it's only January,

It was like 3 degrees here last night. Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Nice pics LBH.

I do cold better than heat but man, yesterday was just flat out brutal. It was about 4 below when I went to work at 8a, add the wind to that and it hurt to breathe. That's a bit colder than I can handle. LOL

Makes me chuckle.  I lived in Wyoming (Green River) for a little over 20 years and I get the same looks in the spring and fall, but this wet-cold of Ohio sure chills one to the bone.  I miss a lot of things about Wyoming.
