Blew a tire out last night..second one in 4 months.  They're getting pretty bald and because I'm a poor guy in school right now, I may have to look into getting tires from a discount place here in town.  I'm kind of skeptical about the quality because why else would they be discounted.

Any of you guys buy tires from discount places?  I know they carry name brand stuff as well but the last thing I want to do is buy name brand discounted tires and have them defected.

By the way, what do they mean by Club tires?

Thanks.

Bream Master,

If you are referring to Discount Tire or America's Tire Company stores they are very reputable and they have very good deals. I have bought most of my tires from them for years. They are one and the same company. They usually have the best prices for my favorite tires. I do buy name brand tires though.

They do offer cheaper brands at a discount but I have no experience with them. I learned a hard lesson years ago with Pep Boys when I outfitted my car with their "Carlisle" brand of tires, as I was strapped for cash. The tire ratings looked very good on paper. The dry pavement ratings were excellent and the wet pavement ratings were very good....Not True at all. I nearly crashed my car in a moderate skid situation on a rainy day with my wife and 5 year old daughter inside the car. I was very upset. The situation that I was driving in shouldn't have been a "skid" situation at all. It was a rainy day on a moderate downhill slope coming into a red light intersection.

The term "club" tires has me wondering...what brand are you looking at?

Better yet, try this link and see if you can find a good safe tire for your car and then go shopping:

Do you have a Sam's Club in your area?  I would suggets you give them a look, they have all the Major brands with the good tires on the shelves, and they won't drain your bankroll.

as a tire dealer i will give you a few tips

#1

always buy name brand tires/ you get what you pay for.

generic tires are that, generic

by name brand tires i mean michelin, bridgestone, goodyear, firestone,bf goodrich and so on.

the reason you did not find much information on michelin destiny is because that is built for discount by michelin. in other words if you went the michelin with 5 million and said build me a tire they would . the tire would say michelin and then you could put  bass tire on the side. the tire would say michelin bass ;D

discount tire , pep boys, walmart  and other big chains do not make there own tires. they buy them from the name brand manufactures. if it has a major tire company's name on the side it will be built the the companies standard even though it is sold at a discount tire store. it will have the tire manufactures  warranty behind it. if you look  on the websites of the major companies like michelin you will see there tires listed on site. they will not match what discount is selling. the tires listed on there site are sold at authorized michelin dealers only.  zimmy
