Fisher of Men Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 My Wal-mart has about 6 feet of tackle and marine items on red-tag clearance. Of course it's a little game I play every year. They run through and mark everything down around 30-40% off, and I wait. They come back and take another 10% off. . . I wait. I will wait them out unless there's something I really want. Right now, I'm holding out for a Minn-Kota air/water temp gauge for my jon boat. It normally sells for $19-- and they've got it marked for $11--. I've vowed to buy it if it goes below $10. As far as worms, hooks, etc., I usually end up buying some things only because they are cheap and never fish them. I've been told that they will soon get tired of it being on their shelves and mark everything down to 80-90% off (alot of items for under 50 cents), although I always miss that day. As far as downsizing, I guess ours has a bit, but there's still a half an aisle of marine stuff, an aisle of tackle and an aisle of rods and reels. The glass reel counter is about 3 foot in length and probably contains around 20 or so models. I'm sure it all comes down to the bottom $$$. I think that's all that matters to Wally world now days. I'm sad to say that the customer is way down on their list as well. -God bless, Fisher <>< Quote

I've vowed to buy it if it goes below Sorry there "Fisher", I went ahead and bought it..... ;D I bought some nice reels on sale before Christmas, recently they had spinner baits on sale for $1 each! These were not packaged with a brand name and were a newly stocked item. They looked good enough to me. The large and small ones that I visit across NC seem to be pretty well stocked with typical baits. No high end stuff. You can't predict when they will put items on sale. Wal-Mart is making some changes, my wife buys fabric and they are doing away with that section. The cheap prices, convenience, and hours that they are open all work for me. Doing away with fishing supplies would be a downer. Quote
cabela10 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I dont like wal-mart. I have a good reason why too. I cant believe that joke I told got deleted. Gerald Swindle told me that joke. I'm guessing Swindle fed some things into your head about the FLW tour. The tour that he doesn't fish and the tour that he hasn't won anything on. Of course he is going to bad mouth the FLW Tour and Wal-mart. If he badmouths Wal-mart, he badmouths FLW at the same time. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I bought several FLW jigs @ .80 cents each, five bags of green punpkin FLW flippin' tubes @ $1.00 each, five bags of 3X lizards in gpumpkin @ $1.50 a bag,a Minn-Kota temp gauge w/ 10 ft transducer cord for getting temps a little deeper than surface for $4.00,and the last one beats the whole take.I am friends with the sporting goods dept. manager, and he had a Abu-Garcia Amb.5000 w/ a 7 ft Lighting rod combo. It had a tiny scratch on the reel.He told me he couldn't sell it with the scratch on it.To the point,he let me have it for $9.00.I was flabbergasted. Super User Root beer Posted February 8, 2007 Super User Posted February 8, 2007 It was funny though. Quote
bassboy1 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I just got back with: a minn kota 20 ft depth temp gauge. 2 manns baby minuses. six bags of plastics. Only got one bag of 3x baits and flippin tubes. Wish I got all four of the green punkinseed 3x lizards, and wish I got all three bags of green punkin tubes. Most of our clearance stuff had already been bought. Quote
Bass Smacker Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I went to Wall Mart right after i read about the abu garcia's for $35 bucks. No luck i talked to the manager ands she said they where waiting on the spring stuff . I'm hopping they will get more of the abu garcia super 7 rods. They where $25 last year so i picked one up on a wim. now its my favorit rod. Quote
Guest avid Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I was in Kmart today and they were completley re-stocking the fishing department. all the big retailers do things at pretty much the same time, so WallyWorld should be setting up their fishing departments for Spring. You'll get a good idea of what's happening then. Quote
logger Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I didn't see a sale at the Wal mart here. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Quote

Reason why I hate wal-mart is because they think they own everything. Screw wal-mart. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 The Walmart I shop at added Chatterbaits,Senkos, and DD22.The dept manager told me they're not downsizing the fishing section, but they're trying to expand on some of the better baits. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted February 10, 2007 Super User Posted February 10, 2007 Well KW--do we have issues??? :-? Yes, we do. But I'm not going to explain what wal-mart do in order to save money, make profit, and keep other company from making the money they deserve. Quote
fishbear Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Was at my local wally world today.... they had Abu Garcias, C4s for 40.00 normally 96.00 I didnt have enough cash to buy one. ;D ;D ;D ;D The bait monkey was rearing his ugly side big time.. lmao, but I beat him back..... for now... ;D ;D Quote
Water Dog Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Just got back from wally world and I remembered what others were saying about clearance items in the fishing section, so I thought I would check it out for myself. YUP, red tags everywhere. I got a hand full of bags of worms, creatures and some hooks. I might go back tomorrow when the wife isn't with me and the bait monkey can take over! LOL This has really been a worthwhile post! I went out and checked the local stores after I saw your post and got a few things, spinner baits for a buck, which is a good price. Where it really paid off was that I had to spend a few days in Myrtle Beach and found bucoos of stuff there. They have a huge fishing section, mostly saltwater, but fresh water as well. I went back over a two day period and have enough stuff to last quite awhile. ;D I'm holding out for a Minn-Kota air/water temp gauge for my jon boat. they had this out the 2nd day "Fisher" , only one but I got it. The clerk had looked the first day and couldn't find one, so I got lucky. I have been asking about the rumor about getting out of fishing and hunting gear and the answer is the same as RW's comments. Re: Wal-Mart Reply #20 - Feb 3rd, 2007, 6:53pm What I'm hearing is that some of the more "urban" locations will be eliminating their hunting departments. The fishing portion of the sports sections aren't going anywhere unless they get bigger. Spring stock-up is about to begin. Some of the stores won't be selling guns, it's a business decision, they will keep them where sales are good. Fishing sections will be larger in some areas; I hope that this includes mine. There is a Bass Pro shop across the street which helped round out the day. Quote
Fatman1267MM Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I'm hopping they will get more of the abu garcia super 7 rods. They where $25 last year so i picked one up on a wim. now its my favorit rod. I hate to say it, but i got the last one at my local walmart last year. picked it up for $5.00. It makes a great crankbait and spinnerbait rod. Quote
BOOYAH Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 After my 3rd walmart this week i got sum good deals lol tons of manns cranks , deep jerkbaits , manns thin cranks, berkley rod holders, bleedin bait spinnerbaits and various plastics all for $2.00 or less. Stocked up quite a bit on these. Quote
bassboy1 Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I got the 3x baits for a buck fifty last Wednesday. All they had were green punkin. Dad was going tonight and I asked him to get me a few more packs. He accidentally came out with a watermelon Chart tail. Also they were a 50 cents cheaper. He said they had a dark watermelon red or something. So apparantly, they have gotten in more stock, and have lowered the price. I have to go back. (says the baitmonkey sitting on my shoulder) Quote
