I continue to ask myself why in the heck people continue to booze and drive?

I almost got hit head on tonight. A car traveling at me came into my lane causing me to have to take evasive action to avoid being hit head on. The car missed mine by less than 2 feet at around 35 mph.

Now the beauty of it, I was working and in my cruiser. I swung around and caught the guy, long story short, his blood alcohol level nearly 3 times the legal limit. My Lieutenant could tell I was a little rattled by it all, I was still shaking 10 minutes later.

PEOPLE, PLEASE STOP THE DRINKING AND DRIVING.

It's just not worth it, and I'm not talking about being arrested, that's the easy way out. Just look at the devastated bodies wheeled into the Emergency Room.

Enough of my rant......

Stupidity, Selfishness, Pride

Shall I continue?

Amen to that. I like a cold beer myself, but, I NEVER even drink ONE and drive, period. I work around the results of drunk driving accidents  as well and I feel no sorrow for a drunk that is crying about hurting someone while driving drunk. They disgust me. That may be a little strong but, I go nuts when they are boo-hooing about hitting someone and they wish they had never done it. It doesn't make you a bad guy to enjoy a beer now and again but, it makes you a idiot to drink and get behind the wheel of a vehicle, and thats all I have to say about that. >:(

Gotta agree,  IDIOTS.

Same as using that drug crap like meth(big around here), crack, etc.  Just stupid.

If I got hit by a drunk driver and was ok, I would probably not beable to control my rage.  I dont get mad about much and usually very easy going.  But this is one thing that puts me in nuclear mode.

Hey Fellas I can tell you from experience that when I was still getting loaded(havent now for over 14 years) I was self-centered and didnt think anyones needs or saftey was important as me getting the next one. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I never considered the consequences or the saftey of the other drivers and their families because I believed I had every thing under control and I always rationilized that nothing would happen that I couldnt handle.

I was in many close calls and ugly situations and until i got clean did not realize it was only by the grace of God i didnt get hurt or worsr hurt someone else. I stummbled out of a lot of gigs where band members had my keys but I always had on hidden no one knew about. I cant tell you how many people I got loaded with got killed, when you are caught up in the grips of addicition you dont care about anyone but yourself and tht is the ugly truth of it AT LEAST IT WAS FOR ME.

Muddy said what I was going to say. Self-centered as in they are thinking only about themselves and not about others.

A minister, his wife, and two children on their way home from church one Sunday night were not so lucky. The drunk driver hit them head on with the two cars ending up in my parent's front yard. I was 15 years old and had just learned first aid in the Boy Scouts. I heard what sounded like an explosion and ran to the front picture window only you see to mangled cars. Yelling for my father, I ran out the front door to see if I could help. I was the first person to the wreck and had run to the passenger's side of the car. It took everything I had to get the door open but what I saw changed me forever. The lady had partly gone through the windshield but then had fallen back into her seat. My father was screaming at me to get back into the house but I told him NO and get the man and children out before they saw the mother.  You see I was shielding their vision with my body so the man would not see his wife and the children would not see their mother with her head half severed from her body at the neck. I will not describe the gore but after the last child was out, I went to find out who was driving the other car. He was drunk and un-injured the others that had arrived by then said. I can fix that I told them and off I went to get my ball bat. My father and the others had to restrain me and it was good that they did because I was in such a rage I would have beat the drunk to death. I do not drink; can you guess why? I can still see those images as clear today as the day they happened so at age 15 I decided I did not need anything in my life that could in any way lead to such needless slaughter. Yes, I have been mocked and made fun of all through college and much of my adult life for not being "social" and drinking but you see I remember.

Of all the things I see every weekend at work there is nothing worse than hearing the screaming and crying that comes from the conference room when the families are told that their family member will no longer be with them.

Drunk driving is an ugly thing and that has been stated time and again. I just wanted to thank you bassnleo and your comrades for the work you do out there to keep us safe. I hate seeing red and blue in my rearview as much as the next guy, but I do respect you guys for the work that you do. I'll trade my families safety for a few tickets any day! Thank You.

I used to get boozed up when I was a young buck and hit the back roads.  I am from a small town and there wasnt much to do.  I know that is no excuse but luckily no one got hurt or killed.  Im a little older a fatter now and I dont drink and drive.  But i still love beer.

Nothing to do with driving, but 2 of my uncles and 1 grandfather have died from Alcohol Poisoning, basically suicide through drinking.

Now, I'm only 16, but believe me when I say that high school is full of drungs and drinking. I get ragged on every day for not coming to the big party......getting trashed and playing beer pong, but I'm not traveling down the road I have seen two of my realtives take. I've never touched the stuff.....

I'd rather lose my popularity than my life.....

for all you young guns..........DONT'T DO IT............

Why do they even make alcohol, drugs and cigarettes, if all they do is kill people. I have never tried drugs and cigarettes and I rarely drink any alchohol. There really isn't a need for any of those three, they evidentually kill you, so why do it?

Way to go Ben23. While your friends are in bed with a hangover you will be out enjoying nature and catching those big bass. It makes me happy to see a young man like you with some common sense, especially in this day and age. :)

Guys, you have to see the video and read the story of Jacqui Saburido

video: http://www.texasdwi.org/jacqui.html

her story: http://www.helpjacqui.com/home.htm

I couldnt find the story as it was reported by the EMS folks, but it was awful.  She was basically burning to death in front of EMS.  Their account of hearing her scream while pinned in the car is chilling.  they thought she died once the screaming stopped, but once the fire was out and they started removing the victims they noticed she was still alive.  This gives me chills everytime i read or think about this.
