Anyone ever have experience with a hemmoragic stroke,i.e. family member etc.? (Its the bleeding one not the one caused by a clot) My grandmother had one last week. I saw her over the weekend and she has her mental faculties (THANK GOD) but she still has numbness in her entire left side. The rehab center is sending her home in 12 days. I guess that's all that medicare will cover.

Anyway I guess my question is how long can I expect her to be "handicapped"? The doctors believe she'll make a decent recovery, but she can't even stand /sit up on her own right now because her left side is so weak. I don't see a full recovery happening in 12 days. Has anyone else gone through this with a  loved one?

Please send up some prayers for my grandmother, Beverly Tobaben.

Thanks

Logger, my wife and I will have you and your's in our thoughts and prayers.

My wife's grandmother had a stroke about 10 years ago. It was before we met and I don't know the details of her stroke although I know it was severe. She still has weakness in arm but I think it comes down to a case by case basis.

Thankfully I haven't had any direct experience with family members having strokes.

I wish you're grandmother a full and as speedy as possible recovery.  ;)

I have seen a lot of this over the years in the field I am in. There are so many variables and circumstances surrounding a CVA that each one is unique in its own way. The biggest hurtle is her willingness to stick with many weeks and or months of rehabilitation and therapy. This might help answer some of your questions. I will pray for her. :)

Thanks guys,we appreciate the continued prayers.

She is definately in good spirits and willing to work hard to get herself back home. I understand every situation is different I guess that was a loaded question.

My dad just told me last night that she will be able to stay in the rehab center longer than the 12 days so that is a blessing in itself. My dad says she is making progress. I guess they had her up and walking with assistance yesterday (which was really more like a shuffle) but for her to be out of bed and at least somewhat supporting her own weight... that's pretty encouraging. With the Lord's help maybe she'll be able to hold her 4th great-grandchild, my son, by the time he is born in late March.
