cabela10 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Okay, I have 2 or 3 credit cards that I have room to put around 5k on each. I am constantly getting promotional checks from these CC companies, like to transfer balances for 3.99% for the life of the loan. They are coming 1 or 2 times every single month and it's really starting to drive me crazy. I have called them to ask them to stop and they said the would, but they keep coming. Is there anything else to do? It's mostly Citi CC. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Tell them if you recieve 1 more, you are cutting the card in 1/2 and getting an Amex. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Rip up the offers they send you and then send them back in the pre paid envolope they provide, It cost them money for every envolope they get after a few times they stop Quote
tipptruck1 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Well sending it back dosn't work. A few months back I got a thing from capital one. I just ran it through a shredder. Then I get one a few onths later. The grandparents said send it back. I did that now I get some thing from them every week. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 They can do it because they have a bulk mail permit/certificate. But it does cost them money so find a way to tell them you dont want anything to do with it. Send it back with a note, something quirky, etc. or you can just throw them in the shredder everytime it comes. Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Make an invoice on MS Word and throw it in the prepaid envelope. Make the bill for a few bucks and tell them that is what you charge everyone that wastes your time. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Well, being from a finance family( My mom was president/ceo of a credit union for 35 years and had her own tax/accounting business for 25 years, my wife is CFO at a credit union and I am a loan officer at a credit union), I hate to tell you guys this, but sometimes those offers are WELL WORTH IT. If you currently have a credit card @ 12.99% and you DONT pay the balance every month, why would you not want to xfer the balance for 3.99% for the life of the balance? I have cards that carry a balance and I have cards that dont, but I dont pay more than 7% on ANY credit card that I have. I know it gets annoying to get all that junk mail, but maybe you should read it once in a while.........I had a member who paid their 2nd mortgage off with an offer like that when they were paying almost 9% on the 2nd mortgage..........Now they pay 3.99% for the balance and have no leins on their home. Something to think about. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted February 5, 2007 Super User Posted February 5, 2007 https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t That's what I did. I opted out and I don't get them any more. Quote

Something to think about. Exactly, pay them with their own money at a lower interest rate and at fixed monthly payment. Why bother in paying at 34-45% anual interest rate if you can pay them at 6 % anual rate for the next 18-24 months. You can use the loan to pay fully your CC bill, pay the car or mortgage of your house or invest the money in something that will give you a higher profit. Quote
Bluecraw Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Send them a letter in writing that you do not want to receive any more solicitation from the company. There is a federal law that states they must comply with your request. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 When my wife and I first got married she had a card with a balance of about $5,000 on it. She had used it to pay for some of her books and classes, when she was in college, so she didn't have to get a bigger student loan (very dumb idea). One day I was looking at her card statement and I noticed she had a terrible interest rate because she had got the card back when she was 16. Her monthly finance charge was $50-$60. The next day I got a thing in the mail from Citibank that offered 0% on all balance transfers and purchases for a year. After that all purchases were at 6%. So I took my wife's card and put it in the shreader. Then I called Citibank and did a balance transfer to the new card. It ended up saving us several hundred dollars in finance charges. Everything we paid during that year went straight to her principle instead of 90% of it going to interest. Sometimes this junk mail is a good deal, but I agree that it does get old getting them every day. JT Bagwell Quote
