I am looking for a good digital camera to replace my antique and would like to keep it under 300.00. I know I can get a good recommendation in here. Any suggestions? Does it have to have 5 pixels? I do want a zoom of at least 8x. Thoughts, ideas? Fill me in, I am blind on this subject and burned out on reading about it.

May I suggest going to your local public library and look at the back issue of Consumer's Reports for their articles on cameras.

You will find the information very valuable and CU ranks the cameras in order of performance.

CU also notes which cameras are "best buys" which can save you some money.

Just don' drop it overboard!

I take a disposalable camera on the boat and leave my good cameras home.

Fujifilm s5600. Hands down. (s5200,s5000, same camera)

I have turned 6 other people on to this camera and every one of them love it. Easy menus, fantastic specs (higher video resolution than any other digi cam.)

And you can't beat the price for the options you get.

Only drawback and it's somthing I actually like, is that it comes in a full size camera body, like an SLR camera.

Thanks LBH, we are on the same page. I am willing to give up portability for quality. I had this cam on my list. It looks great. I wanted one for the ole' tree stand as well as fishing. In my old age I am leaning more to shooting with a camera more than the bow. I will always bow hunt but, I have seen so many great shots walk by me that I want to get them on film. Its between this camera and a Canon I like. I love my antique Canon AE 1. Thanks for your help. I will go the Ritz Camera or www.TigerDirect.com and take a look. :)

Also an Ae-1 owner.  Had the nikonf-F1 before that and a minolta srt201.  Love that camera.

anyway, the thing with digi cams is all the goodies that go with it.  This is where you get sucked in.

Personally, I would buy the camera, alone.

Then go to radio shack, wal-mart etc nd get 8 / 15 minute rechargeable batts and charger. (Camera takes 4, always have another 4 ready to go)

Then also buy a 1gig card ($40)

Good camera bag and you're ready.

I bought mine from Abe's of Maine.  Great deals, I believe redlinerobert just got a camera from them also.

DO NOT BUY THE PKG!!!

Buy the goodies on your own and you'll save a ton.  You end up getting stuff you'll never use with the pkg.

Good luck.

I did just get my camera from Abes, smoking deal and the camera works great!  I opted for portability though :)

The Sony DC10 is a great camera, 7.2 megapixels and was ~$280 delivered.

:o Russ, for some reason I thought you always had a Sony. I just got a s5200 for my birthday. So far ... I love it!!!!

Also for what it's worth, I got a 2 GB card for $50 a few weeks ago at Best Buy.

Thanks for the info guys. I have had my eye on that FF   S5200 for awhile but, was considering portability aspects. I think I can live with a bigger camera for what I want to use it for. I will probably get it sometime this spring. I wish I would have had it this weekend as 5 does and 2 fawns were licking the salt off my van early Sat. morning. I have seen them do this before and it always amazes me. Again, thanks. :)

I own a Nikon also.  I wouldn't trade anything even close to this price point for the Fuji.

KU- That was Darrin that had the Sony,  Same one as Robert but darrin had issues.  Not with the camera itself but with the way it formats.  Was very difficult to get files to movie maker.

Yes, Nikon makes some nice camera's as well. I looked at them but, the one I liked was a little pricey for me. I have a pair of Nikon binoculars that are fantastic. I think for the money the Fuji is the way to go, at least for me. :)

HAHAHA...Ummm  Well?  If you hold the button down, it will take pics in sequence.  So, really it does have video, you just have to flip thru the pics like a cartoon book.  The video has about 2-3 frames per second.
