Hey fellas another thread reminded me of a run in I had with a telemarketer. This guy kept calling to sell me windows for my house, I live in a rented apartment. I explained I was not interested and I work overnights could he not call me early. Well then they started callin AT NIGHT.

One morning I got home around 830am from an overnighter. He called so I start ordering al kinds of windows. Double pane.Argon filled even a front picture window with an electric shudder system, THIS GUY IS ALREADY GOIN TO DISNEY WORLD with his commision

Now he tells me he needs my credit card number to take a $1,000 deposit and a salesman will come to check the measurements before they make these windows. My Answer: I don't have a credit card!

He then says well we can finance it against the house by taking a small 2nd mortage my Answer: I DO NOT OWN THIS HOUSE I RENT AN APARTMENT!

Now he is really upset( I have that effect on a lot of people) and Says THEN WHY DID YOU ORDER WINDOWS YOU DO NOT NEED AND CAN'T AFFORD

MY NASWER WHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING ME!!!!! CLICK last i heard from that company

That a good one muddy. I mostly get vote for me calls. My usuall responses

Why do we have personal property tax? I paid tax on it when I bought it and I dont need to continue paying tax on something I already have paid tax on.

Another remark, So why should I vote for this person over the other person. Who's lying on the mud slinging?

The next one is the greatest and almost always gets a hang up.

Another one is they ask is "Gman there" me "yeah hang on 1 minute" then I let the phone sit until I hear the no one there tone. Some of those people are real patient.

They really like it when you keep changing the subject or ask about a competiters product. "Hello I would like to sell you a dell" Me ok I'm interested " what about this HP those are pretty nice puters"

It really depends on bordom, like this time of year I might just sit there and talk. Its 20 freakin degrees out. What else do I have to do. LOL.

Guys, the easiest way to rid yourself from calling salesmen is to simply make a farting noise into the phone, and hang up.

Its just like this:

"Hello this is Gartha and I'm trying to rip you off with my bla bla bla..."

"Hey garthster, mind if i call you garthster? Ok I'll call you that anyway. Listen, I got to go really really bad and I cant hold it or put you on hold so.... *instert faverite 5 second long fart noise here*

Works every time. Then just slam the phone on the table so it sounds like you hung up, and then listen quietly for their reaction. Great way to pass the long winter evenings. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

My response to telemarketers......................

" I'm sorry, I'm busy right now. Why dont you give me your home phone number and I will call you back."

This usually ends the conversation very quickly!  ;D

Isn't it amazing when poeple can't understand the letter N  and O when they are put together. One I used to do was when they ask "how you are today" I'd just say "terrible" and go on and on and on about how crappy my life is  and my medical problems (all fake of course) and if they try to stop I just tell them "hey you asked how I was and I'm telling you, if you don't want to know, don't ask" and then hang up

Register on the Do Not Call list. They passed a law and if you are registered no one is allowed to call you selling stuff. They are subject to bad government punisment if they do. It really works except it doesn't apply for non profits or politicians. Link is below.

When I was living at home, my mom actually got mad at me for this one...but I thought it was hilarious. I read it in some magazine (Maxim, I think) and the effects were impressive.

They asked for my mother and my reply was 10-20 seconds of silence....then a little wimper and finally sobbing. Through that I would say things regarding "disease" and "last days," and things of that nature. Completely terrible (LOL) thing to do, but I got a kick out of it.

This does work, but it doesn't take effect until 60 days after you sign up.  The only down side to this is that compainies will get the people who recently have been added to that list and they will call you more than before until the 60 days run out.

Just FYI  ;)

The DoNotCall List also doesnt apply to companies that you have conducted business with, ie credit cards, etc

Just registered!

Thanks for the link!:)

Man, I'll kind of miss talking to all my friends from India :D

Oh well, I'll have to catch up with them on Tech Support

If you already gave money to an organization or they are a business partner of your credit card company they can still call you?

My favorite one was this guy called my apartment asking to speak to my girlfriend using her full name. I said she was busy and asked who was calling? He then ask me if I was the man of the house that makes the decisions? I told him I am just April's friend visiting and that she is a lesbian that lives here with her girlfriend and probably would be quite mad if he asked for the man of the house! ;D He mumbled something then hung up.

There is a guy by the name of Tom Mabe that has made a stand-up and record comedian career out of how he responds to telemarketers.  He takes on different personas and then records them.  It is hilarious -- I especially like the one where he asks the carpet cleaning guy if he can get blood out of the carpet and will he come over right away - but park down the street so as not to attract attention.  Check him out if you can.

The "Do Not Call List" worked for me. I used it for my home and our cell phones months ago. No problems. I also added my work number and the work cell phone recently. That helped as well.

I must add that the "Charlotte Observer", the big newspaper around here, did keep calling regarding  renewing our subscription to that rag. I threatened to sue them, which did no good. I then switched tactics. I told them I wanted it free since I needed the paper for my bird cage and since the paper promoted liberal causes they needed to provide me with somewhere to collect my bird's droppings when he doo-dooed in his cage they have stopped calling. ;D

My answer is "this # is registered on the national do not call list, this call is a direct violation of the Federal TCPA act and subject to litigation". I don't think I have ever been able to finish that statement, they always hang up. BTW The civil penalty for violating the Federal TCPA (Telephone Consumer Privacy Act) is $1,500 per call/fax. This includes illegal telemarketing calls and junk faxes. There are guys out there making a living suing these telemarketing and fax blasting companies.

LBH,

Don't get too comfy, my friend. The only reason that they haven't called you (or others) on the cell phone is because no one has compiled a database of cell#s to distribute. War dialers are illegal for cell phones and are easily traceable, but when the major wireless phone carriers can profit in a big way from selling yours and a billon other's #s to telemarketers, all bets are off. It doesn't matter that it is not legal, fax blasters consider the few times they get sued and have to pay "the cost of doing buisness" and a multi million$ business it is. It's only a matter of time. Sorry for the rant, but I throw away several hundred $ worth of paper and injet cartridges a year due to unsolicited faxes. I get several every day. The inkjet cartridges for my fax machine are $45 each and I get more faxes from fax blasters than from my clients. I can't tell you how this makes me fume. I would sure love to spend that dough on the bait monkey.

He is hilarious, I like the one where he tells the caller that he called a crime scene

Same here.

The good thing about a cell is that it is quite easy to block incoming callers as well.

I Have caller id and a answering machine. I never answer the phone unless iam near the phone and know the number. But most of the time I let the machine get it. So if they need to get a hold of me they will leave a messege.

Ronnie, I know what you are saying but 4 yrs so far, so good. :)

Also, for any of you that call me, I usually don't answer numbers that are not already programmed into my phone so if I don't answer, leave message and i'll call right back.
