So I was out fishing and started tying on some new tackle. As I did this the light wind pushed me into the bank and I immediately hear this low pitched hissing noise. Being that I have grown up in Florida I have heared two (water based) creatures do this before: Alligators and Cottonmouths. Now where I was at wasnt conducive to alligators..steep bank, no vegetation. So all in a moment I thought of a big cottonmouth laying next to the boat. If any of you have dealt with this snake before you all know that they are not only violent but often times will become an unwelcomed guest on your vessel. I slowly stood up and peered over and down onto the bank (this hissing hasnt stoped). To my suprise it was a gator, a baby, and she was wadded up into a small hole in the bank.

I wish someone could have seen my face when I first heard the hissing and I didnt realize it was only a gator ( I think I pooped a little  ;D). Later on in the day I ran into the exact same scenario (excpet this time it didnt scare me). I have never seen baby gators burrow themselves into holes in the bank (I know big ones do it for purposes of 'hibernating').

I did take a bunch of pics, here is two:

Hale,

Great pictures! I was working with a teenage kid from Mississippi that had a summer job with his dad on my jobsite in Hammond LA. He was interested in fishing so I invited him to fish on the Tangipahoa river. We were fishing along the river bank when he noticed a gator about 10' long, floating about 100 yards downstream of my little 14' jon boat. He got so nervous he didn't know what to do. I tried to reassure him that it was a common sight and the gator wouldn't bother us. The alligator did that slow sink and went out of sight. He was convinced that she would suface, turn over the boat and eat us both. If he weren't so scared, it would have been funny. I finally had to head back in and call it a day. Amazing.
