Siebert Outdoors Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense. Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable Parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on; if not, join the majority and do nothing Quote
squid Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 OH SO TRUE. BRING BACK THE PADDLE IN SCHOOL.... TEACHERS AND PARENTS SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO DICIPLINE A CHILD. OR AFRAID TO HELP THEM WHEN NEEDED. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT WIN LAW SUITS FOR BEING STUPID EITHER. AND OUR LAWS WERE BASED ON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS...NOW IT'S OK TO GO AGAINST THEM. GOTTA LOVE AMERICA THOUGH...THE ONLY PLACE WHERE THOSE WHO DON'T DESERVE THEIR RIGHTS GETS MORE THAN THEIR SHARE. THOSE WHO DESERVE THEIR RIGHTS ARE THE ONES WHO GET BLASTED BY THE HIGHLEY PAID LAWYERS WHO ARE OUT TO WIN WHETER THEY ARE RIGHT OR NOT. Quote
Troutfisher Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Mr. Sense's death was a tragic loss to everyone. Quote

Water Dog Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 When I got big enough to go to school, my daddy told me, "If you get a whipping at school you will get one twice as hard when you get home" and I never got one. Family discipline and respect for others was central to the culture. That type of parental love has stuck with me throughout my life and carried me a long way. I told my younsters the same thing and they have done well. One of my son's is into "time outs" with my grandchildren so the libs have gotten to them. Had to send him six books on the results on permissive parenting from Amazon. ;D I still have to be a parent. I'll copy the above and send it to him. What can they do, they have to love a meddling old man anyway. ;D Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 27, 2007 Super User Posted January 27, 2007 Excellent post. Sad that our country has changed so much. Mr Sense has been replaced with Miss Liberal. Quote
NATHAN_JAMES Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 and don't forget Miss Liberal's mother Mrs. Politically Correct. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 When I got big enough to go to school, my daddy told me, "If you get a whipping at school you will get one twice as hard when you get home" and I never got one. Family discipline and respect for others was central to the culture. That type of parental love has stuck with me throughout my life and carried me a long way. ;D I can't agree more. I, too, got twice the punishment at home when I did wrong at school (thus, not doing wrong at school very much). I teach middle school kids, and the lack of parental discipline is quite obvious. As far as my own daughter, we spank her (only as a last resort). On ABC TV I laugh to see the "Supernanny" train parents to use "time-out" and see them put the kid in time out repetitively for 20 or more times. That only shows the child that "time-out" is a game. There has to be a bottom line (an ultimatum). And to echo other's sentiments, GREAT post G-man!! Quote
