plastic frog hooks?

I want to start to fish more slop with frogs like the Horney toad and the Sizmic frog. What are THE BEST HOOKS TO USE? I was told the Zoom Horney Toad hook is the best,what do you boys think?

That's a good question.  Santa left me a bag of these in my stocking and I was wondering the same question.  I was thinking that a 5/0 offset worm hook would work good, but what other presentations (besides topwater) has anyone made (i.e.  swimming, jigging, etc.)

One thing you might want to consider would be to use a weedless hook with the weed guard. What you do is to take the weed guard through the plastic of the frog so that it makes a more solid weed guard that is less likely to get hung up. Another good thing about that is that one lure lasts all day like that!

I use a 3/4/5 ewg hook w/ a bead. Hook size depends on the frog. i have tried the "frog" hooks, and they tend to tear the bait up real quick, like 1 fish or 1 bite and its gone. And some of the "frog hooks are weighted..this I didnt like cause the speed you had to maintain during retrieve really killed the action the bait was capable of. I threw a horny toad/ ribbit/ and the yum frog (cant remember the name) alot this past year, and stuck lots of fish. The main prob I found w/ any rig on these frogs is that they tend to try to ball up or get misaligned after a few fish or a couple hours chunkin w/o fish. The bead in front breaks alot of the wear on the front of the lure and pushin a piece of 50lb big game through the hook eye after rigging will let you fish it all day long w/ no probs. i also tried them c-rigged (looks like a crawdad), and as a sort of finnesse bed fishing tool rigged w/ a 1/4 oz pegged tung. weight, as well as top H2O. And as far as being weedless, I found just skin hooking on the top side of the frog is plenty good.

You could use it on a swim jig but due to its size you will end up with a ton of short strikes. I would just use a fat albert twintail on my jiggs. Now other than top water they make an amazing weightless presentation in heavy cover. A frog will spend a large amount of time under water so fish are almost more used to seeing them under water than on top!

Another pluss with those old weedless hooks is that the bait stays in place on the hook and does not move! Also ook sets are a breeze!

The ZOOM HORNEY TOAD hooks work ok , i personally like Ultra Point EWG in 5/0 .

I don't remember what size the ZOOM TOAD hooks are but they are big . maybe 6/0

The EWG hooks will work, but it helps to use some glue or other pegging method to keep them from sliding down the hook.

The Mustad Impact Ultralock hooks work great as well.  They have a plastic barb that you puch into the nose of the frog.  Use some superglue on that barb and the bait stays put quite well.

The ZOOM Horny Toad hooks work well also.

The new skipping hook from Gamakatsu might work as well, but I am waiting on some to arrive and have yet to see the true size and gap of these.

use a 5/0 ewg gamagatsku  or a 7/0 owner offset worm hook for bull ribbits will work great

when using smaller frog baits try pegging a 1/16 tru tungsten t-rig. works great!!!

I used a 3/0 Ultra Point EWG and got by with those, although after rerigging a few times the frog is done.  I like to throw them weightless so, Im not too big on the jig hooks.  I would like to give those Horney Toad hooks a shot, but I really think it boils down to personal preference.  There really isn't a hook that works as a "Frog Hook"

Thanks for the input guys!!  All are good ideas.  I can't wait to try them out when the frogs get active.  Amazingly, I've been hearing some over the last few nights here in North Texas.  I bet they'll crawl back into their holes this weekend though; the cold front just blew in here a while ago.  I was so counting on an early spawn, too.
