I just received a few emails that were not very nice and was directed to me from a couple of people on this site, wait, I should not say that. Let me reiterate. I received emails from someone whom read some of my post here. I have my mail blocked so, how did they get it? I tried to reply but, was not able or was blocked so here goes. I am sorry you feel that way about me. No, I don't know everything about smallie fishing and I certainly did not mean to come across that way. I just add input of my way of fishing for them. To me this site is a great learning source where we all have our opinions, throw them in the hat and use what we derive from other ideas. I have certainly learned a lot from here. I always leave my self open to new ideas and techniques. I have guided the rivers around here for seventeen years and have done well on smallmouth so I just thought my ideas might help a few people. I saw some people that lived near the Susky and in the upcoming year was going to invite them to a free trip but, man, it seems like a very small few are able to give suggestions and ideas but, anyone that differs is a ----------. Maybe you are right, I have a answer to everything, as was put to me. Yes, I do post a lot. I just get exited about fishing. It is who I am. I have loved this sport for many years. To the two who sent these emails, at least I think it was two people, why hide? If I give a opinion on smallie fishing then why not just add your two cents and tell us your way. There are a ton of guys here that fish the Susky and Upper Potomoc that are fantastic smallie fisherman. I never claimed to be, as was put " The guru all knowing smallmouth guide". Its almost funny. Wow, I am a guru !!! To you I say, I am glad you are all that, write some stuff so maybe I can catch a few of those brownies. Sorry guys but, those mails pi**ed me off. :)

Jim, In the future, delete such emails. Someone that can only reply anonomously isn't worth the extra "click" to open it.

(and no, they can't.  Only Mods and Glenn have that access if you have it blocked)

Yes, I thought as much. I should have never posted my name I guess. I know a lot of people in our little smallmouth world in PA and MD. It could have been anyone. I only opened them, LBH, because it mentioned this site and me. Hey, maybe I will rename myself as " The Guru",lol. ;) Oh well, live and learn.  :)

Hey I live close to you and would like more info on the Upper Potomoc  :D Is that a new body of water?  ;) Seriously SM fishermen seem to be more protective of fishing secrets because the waters we fish are usually smaller. I received hate PM's on another site for posting stuff about the Upper Potomac before so that stuff does happen.

Yea Munkin, I guess you are right. I tried this forum stuff and I don't think it is working out for me. I just figured that as many years and as much time as guys like you,me and the rest of our friends had on the Susquehanna and Upper Potomoc that it would be a great venue to help some of the younger guys out. Hell, I don't mind sharing my holes and such. I thought it would be fun to take some people out on the Susky for smallies and let them have some of those 80-100 or so smallie days that never did it before. I had guys at the ramp ask how many we had in the winter and I would say 60 or so and they would say, " yea, right, we only had 8 or so". I say heck with them. I am going to take my trips for money, fish with the same old guys and move on. Let them have those 10 fish days. Those emails left a bad taste in my mouth. Anyhoo, are you going to the fishing flea market next Sat.? If so I will see you there. I need some tubes. Gary Seavolt will be there. He has been making some awesome jigs. I am tired of making them. I am going to check his out. I guess the whole gang will be there. All of us no fishing &^%$$%^&%$&^&* river guides and fisherman ;D. See ya there. :)

Hey Jim,  I agree with replica do not let a few a**holes ruin the whole information sharing thing for you I enjoy reading your posts and have found many of them to be very helpful to me I enjoy fishing for smallies I live very close to the Juniata river and spend a lot of time in the spring, summer fishing for smallies in it.  I think that people like me (myself included) can learn some very helpful things from you and others like you who have fished for small mouth for a long time.  So please do not stop posting on this site quite a few of us appreciate your knowledge and your willingness to share it.

Thanks replica, I appreciate that. I am just going to watch the smallie post, learn some things and sip on my coffee. Happy fishing. I hope your rods stay bent with big smallies.  :)

Thanks my friend. You live close to the Juanita? I put in at Duncannon in the later part of spring and the smallies get loaded up in the mouth of that river as well as the next creek down, Sherman Creek, you know where I mean. ;) A few years back I had a clients grandson catch a 5+ up the Juanita a piece on his first throw of the morning and it was the morning of his 12th birthday !!!. Pretty nice way to start your b-day. It was pretty cool as well as memorable. :)

Jim, don't let a couple of idiots keep you away. Even though I rarely have the opportunity to fish for smallies, I've enjoyed your posts regarding them. I've gotten a few good tips from your posts, tucked away for one of my rare, but eagerly anticipated, trips to smallmouth territory. Advice from an experienced guide is something one normally has to pay for. Thanks for spreading it around for free.

No need to apologize. You were much nicer, in your reply,  than I would been.

In fact, I'll add this.

To the cowardly POS who saw fit to send such crap to this gent, either be a man and own up to your deeds, or keep your big

#$%^in' mouth shut.

Cheers,

Yes, I live in Mifflintown in Juniata County and the river goes right thru town.  I live just about 3-5 minutes outside of town towards 22-322.  I usually wade the river my boat is not built for the river.  I do know where you mean down by Duncannon.  Sounds like a great place to fish, my pb for the year was a 20 in. smallie did not have a scale so no weight.  Let her go, hope she is 21 or 22 in this year and I can get her again.

Jim,

Whatever you do please don't go away. I enjoy your posts and your sharing. Don't let some bonehead alter your opinion of forums. There is always one idiot to deal with no matter where you go.

I will be going to that tackle show next weekend so I will see you there. Pint Kline said I should rent a booth to sell some of the spinnerbaits and other handmade stuff I make but I want to check it out first. With work and everything else going on right now I only have about 60 spinnerbaits made so I will have to try for another time.

How's the Juniata in the springtime? I have grandparents up there and I would like to include some fishing in my next spring time visit.

Jim,

If you ever get emails like that again please PM me their e-mail addresses and I will take it from there. I have seen this before, time and time again. If you are a very successful fisherman on any given body of water and you are willing to share your knowledge with others some tourney fishermen don't like that. They do that to Triton Mike on Lake Allatoona. They do it to Randall on Lake Varner. It's sad that some tournament fishermen think that in order to keep an edge on the competition they have to shoot down the guides.

Please don't let this crap discourage you from sharing your knowledge with those of us who know nothing about smallies. I have never had the chance to catch on and I am dyeing to do so.

I went to your profile and sent a test e-mail and it was blocked so you did not receive any nasty e-mails from us normal guys.

The e-mail should have had a return address.  If not, then I am baffled at how they sent it to you.

I enjoy your posts and please keep them coming.

c312, I have only fished the Juanita from where it emptys into the Susquehanna up to the next ramp. I would say it would be good. They go into this river to spawn in late spring as well as feed early in the spring. There are quite a few creeks that empty into the Susque. that share the same influx. I have often wanted to go way up this river and fish. I would like to use a canoe or kayak and start maybe 20 miles up and fish my way down. I would say if you throw some tubes, grubs or small cranks you have a real good chance of waxing them. :)

Yes, and I understand. I have seen this before in other venues. Its all top secret and its like you are bound to a vow of silence. Munkin said he ran into this before on another forum as well. I was positive that it did not come from this site as I checked my blocked email status. It was someone whom reads this forum. Whether it was a member or not, I would not know. I attempted a reply and was blocked. All they had to do is block my reply from their mailbox. Easy enough. Pretty cowardly though. It just shows the mentality of the individuals whom sent it. I like sharing what works for me as well as learn from others. I just feel gun shy as it made me wonder how I came across and how many others feel this way. Hell, I have had bad days fishing like everyone else. If you spent as much time as I have on these two rivers over the years you are bound to have learned the techniques and places to fish these bodies of water. You get  to know the seasonal habits, how temps, high and low water affect them along with the info you get from your friends over the years, and it comes together. Like I said, I don't feel comfortable like I did in here before. This is a great forum and you all do a great job. Good luck, and thanks again.

Hey Justfishin I have made the bad mistake of engaging these guys and IM ON A SELFIMPOSED BLOK from doing that anymore. Just watch the forums you will know who to get comfortable with

The Mods and Glenn are very helpful Dont make the mistakes I have it really detracts from all the wonderful people here.It takes a lot of work not to engage these people for me I LOVE A GOOD FIGHT but thats not why Im here or you either

Lets both just stay focused on the very positive folks here and stay you have a lot of valuable stuff to share with your fellow anglers

Jim,

I've read a bunch of your posts and I've learned from you...and gotten a few laughs. You seem very old school in your approach to fishing, and that's a nice counter balance to those of us who get carried away looking for the next big thing.

Too many times a jerk will give a good guy a hard time, then the good guy leaves and we're stuck with the jerk.

Please don't stop posting.

This really bothers me as someone who is pretty green. I really appreciate the info shared by the experienced folks here. I feel like I have ten times as much as much knowledge as I would have otherwise thanks to guys like you. I need to get out fishing more to get better but you guys have sure shortened the learning curve. I joined a bass club this year and chose the one I joined because their emphasis is more on sharing info and having fun. Monetary prizes are small but are there to make it fun and mostly for braggin rights. We are fortunate to have some experienced guys and one who is almost a pro. The best part is they seem to have the same spirit of sharing and teaching found on this forum.

Sorry for the rant but the point I'm trying to arrive at comes from another thread that discussed the declining popularity of fishing. Without folks that are willing to share and teach others the sport will without a doubt decline.

As Avid often declares.......I have spoken

Thanks for the kind words fellas. I received a few mails previously that were along the same lines that I ignored. They could not have been sent internally because my email was blocked so, it was just a few that I guess know who I am and aquired my address somehow. Like I said, I am going to continue to read the post on smallies. It is a wealth of information not only for the green horns but, for the experienced, as well. Anyone who fishes for smallies can tell you, they can be very unpredictable at times and do just the opposite of what you have previously experienced or read about. In my eyes there is nothing like a smallmouth. Riskkid, joining a club was a good choice.I expect you will learn a ton from your peers and if it is a sanctioned club and you chose to fish your state trail the info you will gain will be exponential. I belonged to a club for years and fished with some of the best in my state. A long time guide friend of mine whom died a few years back was one of the best smallie guides I ever knew and took me under his wing and showed me all he knew. He guided for names like Lefty Kreh ( well known fly fisherman ), Joe Gibbs ( ex Red Skins coach ), as well as many others. I was fortunate. He was uncanny in his approach to finding and catching big smallies. I had previously caught a ton of smallies before meeting this gentleman but, very few trophy smallmouth. I learned to even the odds and have since caught quite a few trophy smallmouth. I was fortunate enough to be left with a wealth of info that made me a  better fisherman. I am still learning, and this should be the mind set of all of us. If there is a better way, show me, I say, I want to know. Good luck, I expect your enthusiasm will lend you to become a awesome fisherman. :)
