True.

You need more fish in that tank!  lol

Seriously though, if you were providing them the diet they need, your water quality would be terrible within a few weeks.  Nitrate levels would be through the roof.  PH soon to follow.  That water looks crystal which has me thinking they are starving.  They need 2/3 their body weight per day.  That's about 20-30 goldfish each.

Although a very cool concept, keeping basss in captivity isn't a great idea unless your tank is a minmum of 300 gallons and you are prepared to feed him and maintain the tank properly.  JMO

There are 2 bass and 2 blue gill in the tank. The tank is crystal because I keep the tank well maintained. IE 2 sucker fish and a turtle who cleans up a lot of ground debris. Also filtration is changed everyweek and gravel vacuumed. I give them 20-25 gold fish at a time and they get to hunt what they are going to eat. Normally they eat the 20-25 in about 2-3 days depending on how big the goldies are. The ones I have right now are nice and plump so the fish dont have to take out as many to be full. Ive had them about 2 months now and are growing nicely. I know I cant keep them in my tank forever but they are beautiful to have. I might make a nice pond in the back or either release them when that time comes. A 300 gallon tank only comes into play when they are too big to make the turns in the tank with ease. At that point they are going back out to the lake. Unless someone would like to take them and put them in thier own tank.

Or...You could eat them. They've been eating cultivated food. They should be healthy and free of parasites by now. Living in clean water. Controlled conditions.

LBH,

They're two bass living in a tank. Would it be better if Crayon just ate them? He's studying them. Watching their habits. He has plans to release them. What's wrong with what he's doing?

If he caught them and ate them, as many people do, would that be worse than keeping them and releasing them later?

Please refer to your state laws regarding releasing captive fish to wild water.

Like I said, do a search and read a few of the posts that cover this.

I'm not here to start a fight.

Im not here to start any fighting or anything else. The fish were caught in the wild and can be realsed back into the wild. As long as your not throwing any kind of exotic fish or a whole crap load of goldfish (which is what people do here in texas) into the water than there is nothing wrong. I know where I fish there are all kinds of fish that people have thrown in there. Ive even caught a 15" pacu out of the Boerne City lake. Why would I need to do more resaearch on something that I already know about. I didnt take the fish under size limit for where I was at. They are healthy with no parasites and they have never been medicated nor has anything else in this tank. They are well fed and in a temperature controlled enviroment. Tank is clean So if and when they are big enough to release I dont know why I cant do so. I know people with bass In horse troughs that would swallow my 2 bass and still be looking for more. Remember no fighting im just talking. Let me know what everyone thinks.

Because if this is the extent of your experience with transplanting fish from one body of water to another, you are greatly undereducated on the subject, which means this is somthing you know nothing about.

Parasites and viruses aren't always visible to the naked eye, to assume so is irresponsible.

Consult a marine biologist or even a game warden.  Ask questions.

At a minimum, dose your water with aquarisol, a few days before you release them.  Please.

Now, I can't force you to read past posts, laws or articles pertaining to this subject, so with that, I'm out of this one.

Awsome idea but for me they are to much. They are exspensive as hell to take care of and I would spend more time cleaning/maintaining them then I would enjoying them. Cool thought though.

LBH I hope you come back to read this. I dont even know what your talking about with what you wrote up here. What I was getting at, is that people throw all kinds of fish in the lake a I go to. There is even a 2' koi that lingers about out there. Im not saying it is right to throw these fish out there I hate that people do thing like that because it destroys population. The fish I have will go back to the same lake they came out of. I didnt post the vid for people to get their panties in a wad about. It was just posted because not many people have bass in their fish tanks and most people on here seem to like it. I didnt post it up here to start anything over. I looked for past posts and didnt find anything about keeping bass in your home. As long as your not trying to start a fishery in your back yard you dont have to contact a game warden to take home a fish you caught. Yea it would be cool if I woke up one morning and I had a tank full of bass but it just wont happen. They are both males. They are expensive to maintain but I never slack on what they need. I know that no all viruses and parasites can be seen. But I know what to look for in their health because I did do research on taking care of them. I also have a friend who work at an aquarium that I go to if any of my fish satrt acting strange. Why did I even get so much bunk for this? Its not like I posted a video of me sawing off the head of a baby bass or anything. People just enjoy the vid.

I'm not giving you a hard time, I'm just asking you to read up some more if you are going to keep one in captivity. Especially the releasing part of it. I know Texas law is different than RI law, that came up in one post, but here it is illegal to keep one in captivity and then release it. Believe it or not, they'd rather you harvest it and eat it than release it.

There are also fish that are just as carnivorous as a bass that are farm raised to be pets. Most cichlids (oscars, etc), pacu's, dempseys, and so on.

These fish are not designed to grow like a bass. All caretaking aside, for me it's an ethical standpoint. The potential size a bass can grow is also a big part of the 300 gallon comment. Those fish will max that tank out completely (will only grow big enough to still be able to turn around) very quickly.

Now again, I'm not attacking, not even judging because I've been there. I've kept bass myself but a biologist from the Univ of Vermont had a good long talk with me and explained in laymans terms why states like RI don't allow the release of a previously captured fish that has been maintained in foreign water.

Then there is the psychologicasl trauma too. Maybe it's just me but my Oscar is plenty entertaining when it comes to feeding time and I've been able to keep him almost 10 yrs now. I mean, we are kidding ourselves if you think you are going to "learn" anything about bass behavior by watching a few captured bass try to survive in a 55 gallon tank.

JMO and more than enough of it. lol
