Howard had more home runs, higher slugging percentage, more RBIS so how did Puljos exactly get robbed. Ernie Banks won a few MVPS and never saw a WS his whole carrer. ;)

Guys, I loved reading your baseball threads, and I'm gonna jump in on this one if you don't mind.

Pujols batted 397 with runners in scoring position (clutch).

Ryan Howard batted 256 with runners in scoring position (not clutch)

Howard's RBI total benefited from batting with 72 more batters in scoring position than Pujols. (lucky)

Howard batted between Chase Utley (stud) and Pat Burrows (stud) and sometimes Bobby Abreau (stud)

Pujols spent much of the season behind Preston Wilson & So Taguci (not studs).

Howard had an awesome season, but if he switches places with Pujols, it's no contest.

btw. Pujols had a higher slugging percentage (1st in the NL), higher batting average, scored more runs, stole more bases, and played gold glove defense.

If you haven't already guessed, I have a man crush on AP.

Puljos has become the best player in the game RBIS aint about luck they are about puttin the ball between the lines and Howard had a more impressive year Albert will get his someday but not this year I think the Writers got it right this year Howard is just as good with his defense and played more innings than Albert also.

Welcome to the baseball threads Daniel.......I see a pattern that proves my theory that St Louis is the best baseball town.....there are red bird fans all over this forum and they all know their stuff! Even though it is at times biased  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Howard did have an awesome season, in fact he single-handedly carried the Phillies into the playoffs...oh, wait... :P

I just wanted one of the Cardinals (Carpenter, LaRussa, Pujols) to win one of the big individual awards, but the way they finished the regular season, it just wasn't happening.

Now the post season, that was INCREDIBLE! :) :)

I'll bet Howard would trade the MVP award for a world series ring! ;)

I'm thinking you're right. You are a very clear thinker for a Yankees fan. ;) ;D

Pujols:  AVG .331  HR 49  RBIs 137  Slugging PCT .671    Gold Glove       Games Played 143

Missed a few games with pulled Oblique, played injured with the obligue and hamstring.

Cardinals wouldn't have been in the playoffs without him.

Howard:  AVG .313  HR 58  RBIs 149  Slugging PCT .659  No Gold Glove  Games Played 159

Phillies didn't make the playoffs.

Howard played 16 more games than Pujols and had no injuries, yet he only had 11 more RBIs.  Check out the above and then the information from Daniel My Brothers post:

Pujols batted 397 with runners in scoring position (clutch).

Ryan Howard batted 256 with runners in scoring position (not clutch)

Howard's RBI total benefited from batting with 72 more batters in scoring position than Pujols. (lucky)

We each have our opinion, but the facts do not support that Howard had a more impressive year than Pujols.  If you are only impressed by home runs, then Howard gets it.  Otherwise, the comparison isn't even close.  Pujols stats, game-winning ability, and all around play leaves Howard in the dust.  Sorry, Muddy.  You got to give Albert his due.  BTW, Albert did get his in 2005 after coming in second and third behind Bonds every year he has played.  MVP for the last 6 season period:  Pujols.  No one else is even in the ballpark.

Wow, and look who wins the AL MVP... Justin Morneau. Who? Thats what everyone is probably saying right now but he is a great player. However, I dont think he is as good as Jeter. I am not a Jeter lover like muddy but i still think he should have won the mvp this year. They really messed up on the mvp's this year.  Whoa, I almost spilled water on my world series shirt. :)

Hey Fellas the Standard Speaker here in Hazleton PA  had Puljos and Howards stats reversed They corrected when I called with the info from the board If its not Pen Football or wrestling htey dont really care up here So Bassresource.com straitned it out for them ;D Howard still had an MVP year and you dont need to get in the series to get it Like I said this is what Ernie Banks went through when I was a kid. And being the unbiased Met Fan I am Wright had almost an MVP year. ;) ;)

Muddy Man,

As much as I think Pujols deserved MVP, you can't deny what Howard did. He was clutch in the second half of the season and that's when the writers pay attention, and he had the hype machine working as he chased the pre-steroid era home run record. Albert, well, he was just being Albert.

The person that really ticked me off was Stephen A. Smith (from Quite Frankly on ESPN) he stated that Albert was a "dime a dozen" latin ballplayer (his actual words) in the mold of Big Papi and Delgado.

As far as the American League MVP, I really don't pay much attention to the A.L. so I don't have much of an opinion...but it's always nice when a Yankee loses. ;)

Yankee fans need love too.   ;)  The rest of us are just jealous because our teams don't have the money to spend that the Yankees have.  If the Cardinals had that kind of money, I'd want them to use it to get the best players money can buy.

You got that right. I would love to win it all enough times to be hated by the rest of the baseball world. ::) ;D

Astros might not be contenders if Clemens retires (or goes somewhere else like NY or Boston) or if Petite retires. I know he is really young but he was talking about retiring and was really really serious about it. I imagine he comes back because the Benjamins are callin' but he might go to another team. That leaves Oswalt and Brandon Backe? I like Oswalt but he cant do everything. I heard they are close to a deal with Carlos lee and will probably get him. So we may not be talkin about cards, cubs, and astros and maybe instead cards, cubs, and brewers. I think if the Mets want to go to the World Series next year, they have to pick up Barry Zito. I think they will. No one has mentioned that they picked up one of my least favorite players of all time. Moises Alou. Mr. No Hustle Ow My Leg. Just watch him in his ready position in the OF it looks like he has no plans on making a play on any ball. His legs are spread wide and his knees are locked. Have fun with him. If he is healthy and not too old then he will be a good fit on New York's other Yankees. Looks like the Mets are tryin' to buy a championship like the Yankees.

Im a Mets fan and a Boras hater, I hope they dont get Zito, although Minya has expressed in the NY papers that he is indeed looking to sign Zito and resign Glavine. The Glavine thing is a mistake and I would have wished that the Lords of Baseball would finally get it through their heads that Boras is holding them up without a gun WAS AROD Worth all that MONEY is Arod worth more than Jeter is he worth moree than Albert NOT

Hey Senile and K Mac.....thanks for all the love

Hey Muddy....everyone cares....love us or hate us everyone cares one way or the other  :D

Speakin of spending money....how about the Bosox and Cubbies

Scott Boras pretty much has a monopoly on all the good players so he can play all the gm's based on how much he brings in for each player. I cant stand the guy. Or that rosenfeld or whatever his name is.

Is it just me or are the Cardinals being snubbed a little bit in the awards distribution this year?  First, Pujols did not get the MVP.  Now, La Russa does not get a vote in the NL manager of the year voting.  He is the first manager to win a World Series and not get a vote.  Now I didn't expect him to win the award, but to not even receive one vote is wild.  He took a team riddled with injuries, picked up a questionable pitcher in Weaver, and took this team to the World Series title.  And Weaver turned out to be one of the bright spots for the Cardinals in the playoffs.  I know I'm a rabid Cardinal fan, so forgive me if I'm being a little biased.  I just wondered what everyone else thinks about La Russa not receiving a vote.

GIARDI WHAT THE %#$#$ were they thinking?????????

La Russa looses the best closer he has,Rolen is hurt and his got his team out a a horrible 2nd half slump  and he manages his team around 2 of the deadlist lineups METS AND TIGERS to win the series AND DOESNT GET ONE VOTE

And WILLIE RANDOLPH looses 3 THREE premier starters and gets to out 3 bases loaded against the WS Champs form a team that finishged horribly 2 previous years WILLE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT by maybe 2 or 3 votes over LaRussa

Giardi was fired b/c he had an unbelieveable draft of young talent and couldnt get them all the way so the writers make him NL MANAGER OF THE YEAR thats 100% Prime Bull #(U*)(*$ >:(
