Guest avid Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Last night I fell asleep while icing down my injured shoulder. I woke up and didn't think much of it, till I took off my shirt. Oh Ma Gawd There is a cirlclar discoloration about the size of an orange. It is kinda purple, but with areas that are more of a dark grey. It is sensative to the touch, but not painful unless touched. I have been using moisturing creams and aloe, and it seems to be getting a little better. I have reduced but not stopped the heat/ice routine. My wife is going ballistic on me. I come here because as fellow bass crazies you understand my need to get back into form as soon as possible. bassnleo Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Frost bite, in Florida? Sorry avid, just had to...... Hope you are well! Quote
jdw174 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Kinda hard to give an opinion without knowing exactly what kind of injury you have :-? Muscle tears/bruises can turn into shades of orange/grey/black/blue/purple that you wouldn't believe. Ice will help keep the swelling down.....heat will increase blood flow to the injured area to promote healing. I would say after the first couple of days you could drop back on the ice and increase the heat time. OTOH, if you took a good shot to the shoulder or another sharp injury, I'd suggest you make a visit to an orthopedic doctor if your bruise doesn't heal up in about 2-3 weeks. Best I can do... Quote
Guest avid Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I'm certain it was mild frostbite. the skin is now peeling, is still sensative, but the flesh underneath is pink and healthy looking. I can't believe I fell asleep with the ice pack on. PS frostbite in Florida ;D - that's a good one. I was thinking if it was serious and I had to go to the ER they would shrug their shoulders and tell me to find a doctor in Denver. Quote

Other. Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Same thing happen to one of my teachers son that was on a football team, Hurt his shoulder and fell asleep with a icepack on it and got frostbite. Now that must really bite. Quote
justfishin Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Never use an ice pack longer than 20 minutes. Alternate between hot and cold for this length of time. If it is muscle pain ask your physician about Skelaxin or Flexiril. If it is joint pain and you are seeing a Orthopedic Surgeon ask him or her about Ultracet for the pain. If this is going to be a long term joint injury inquire about Supartz Injections.
