Chug Bug Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 With all the use I got out of UPS this Holiday season, I have a query for you LBH.. What prevents you guys from just tossing a package out the door of your truck while in transit when you are having a bad day? Ethics alone? ;D :-/ Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 It's a combination of things. Every package, right down to the tiny envelope is tracked. That computer board I carry has every package in it that is in the truck. For example, if you live a 2 main and I get to your house, scan the package. If you just have that 1 pkg, my screen for 2 main will now show "0". If you had 3 pkgs coming, it would say "2". In short, that pkg is on paper as being on my truck. 99.997% of the time, it is. Now, ethics wise, I make decent money, have great bennies and retirement. I had to load trucks at 3 am for 7 yrs to get this full-time position. Is that worth a TV or a VCR or a temper tantrum? Nope. There is also the side of it that I know most of the people that ordered whatever I just trashed. Lastly, there is pride. I gripe often about the company because I see many ways to do it better and having happy employees at the same time. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm part of somthing that, even though it's just delivering boxes, NOBODY does it as well or with as much pride as Big Brown. I know I'm biased but it pertains to the question. So in short, it's a matter of all these things combined. It's just somthing that doesn't happen. UPS is very good at maintaining accountability. With their people AND their money. This will always be the driving factor for anything the company initiates, including a top notch "loss prevention" dept. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 First of all UPS has never messed up any delivery I have been involved in MEATBALLS INCLUDED ;D but most important of all Russ is too honest a guy to even consider that Quote

Hillbilly_Hooker Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I'm in sales for a national distributor that sends out 1,000s of packages each day through one of our 7 U.S. warehouses. We've used UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, and other smaller regional carriers. Occasionally, I too have seen packages that resemble a hockey puck after a hard fought game, but my hat's off to LBH and the other guys at UPS. There is no other carrier that we've used that comes anywhere close in service. Big Brown does it for me Hillbilly Quote
Chug Bug Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Thanks for the reply. I've had the same two guys delivering to my house since I've owned it. I think it's a fine service. Was just wondering if it was basically the caliber of the people that eliminated wrongdoing. Muddyman, I was in no way disparaging or calling into question the honesty of LBH! Quote
Valascus Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I must say that this year I am very happy with the service I have recieved from UPS. I have ordered some computer parts, which are very very delicate, and they have not only gotten it to me in pristine condition, but quickly too, even though they were ordered and shipped around the busy holiday season. Fedex on the other hand...is starting to get on my nerves a bit. Still don't have either my new rod or new reel and the information they provide for you concerning your packages tracking is "bare-bones" at best. With UPS they tell you ever place your package has been, every time it's been scanned, everytime it arrives somewhere, and everytime it leaves somewhere all the way up to delivery. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 As far as "caliber" of people, the long term ,part-time trial you go through to be a driver can build that charachter in folks who otherwise may have never known it. Packages DO get assaulted sometimes. It's the nature of the beast whether it's UPS, fedex or USPS. Packages go through hubs on all kinds of conveyor sysytems. SOMETIMES, they jam. Tha packages back up and one or 2 turn into accordians, lol. But deliver it to someone and they assume that YOU personally were in the back of the truck pile driving the thing. If I have one like that, I won't leave it at your house, I'll wait till I catch you at home and let you open it and inspect it so you have the opportunity to refuse it. Not part of our methods, just somthing many of us do for the customer,on the hush of course. Often, I know where you work also and can opt to bring it there if it's also on my route or nearby. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Out of curiosity why when a package is delevered at a place of business does the driver ask for your last name if you sign for it. Someone mentioned Dhl in a previous post. It has been my experiance that if you put all the UPS guys on bicycles with flat tires they could still out deliver DHL. How DHL stays in business I don't know Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 well, we ask your last name so we can type it in under the chicken scratch Just for the record, DHL is about 10 times the size of UPS. They are #1 worldwide. Americans don't realize this because we only see the guys that drive like maniacs , dressed like Ronald McDonald, in old beat up, yellow vans. That's only America. They OWN the rest of the world. In europe, they are all you see. Don't get me wrong, we deliver to every address on Earth, literally, but they are much larger. Quote
