fishbear Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I just got back from spending two hours at my bank. They had called and asked if there was a problem, why my account was so badly overdrawn. :o I was like SAY WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There should have been plenty in the account to cover everything and lots left over! Well, here is a warning guys.... someone stole both mine and my wifes Visa Check Card #'s and went on a shopping spree.... the guy in the Fraud department, says that one of the ways they get them is to use a camera phone, and when they run your card, they take a picture of it, it could have happened over the internet, (we pay our bills that way) well we did until today! An employee at one of the places we shop could have just written the #'s down, or the newest one is someone has figured out how to hack into the card readers at gas stations.... > > > > > > > > > > > > One of the charges was for over a grand to the Plaza Hotel in Maryland! I have never been to Maryland in my life!!!! If, I could just get my hands on these crooks.. To make a long story a bit shorter. I just froze our accounts, and Visa and the bank are going to do an investigation! I am borrowing enough cash to get us through the Christmas weekend with groceries, gas, etc..... but after that, we are gonna be stretched real thin till the investigation is complete. I just wanted everyone to be aware, and to be more careful with your credit card purchases, even using an atm card.. like P.T. Barnum said, there is a sucker born every minute, and two to take him. fishingrulz Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I'm sorry to hear that. Some people are just so low down. Listen, in the end it will work out. I hate theives! I can't describe it. And I can't use the words here. I'm sorry though. Good luck with the investigation. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 23, 2006 Super User Posted December 23, 2006 My wife had her identity stolen and the thief had a phone hooked up at his grandma's house and wound up ringing up $2000 in 3 months before they cut it off. My wife knew nothing about this and tried getting a credit extension one day when whammo! You owe the phone company $2000 for this phone bill you never paid for. The phone was in a house in one of the worst parts of town. The phone records indicated hundreds of calls to numerous penal institutions in Missouri and Illinois. The worst part was how hard WE had to work to get this obvious identity theft charge off her record. The police told us it's not uncommon for the car detailers to have criminals working for them and they make a contact within the financial department of car dealerships they work for. The contact pulls the information off of loan applications and then the sky's the limit as to what they can do. This all happened just a month after my wife had taken a loan out for her car 2 years ago. Quote
Water Dog Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Gosh, I'm sorry to hear that! There are some vicious no good bums out there. I heard that they came out with a new credit card that simply had a chip in it to speed up transactions, you don't have to swipe or input data. The only problem is that someone can stand next to you with a card reader and read it right in your wallet. Then they have all of your information. Date of birth, social, everything. I'm sorry that they have hurt you financially and messed up your Christmas. Put me on a jury and they will get the max! > I hope things work out for you. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 24, 2006 Super User Posted December 24, 2006 FB, sorry to hear man. If ya got any clues as to who did it, I am a pretty mean shot with the ol' Mossberg!!! Hope everything turns out well for ya. Wayne Quote
Rose_Jackets67 Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 John, I'm genuinely sorry to hear that, and I'm sorry that I can't offer anything other than condolences to help you out. A buddy of mine had a Visa check card stolen recently, and after he disputed the charges it was around 2 weeks before they cut him a check and sent him a new card. Hopefully the turn around time will be faster for you. If you want to get out on the water to blow off some steam and relax any time between now and New Years just let me know and I'd be happy to join you. Good luck and Merry Christmas, adam Quote
fishbear Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 Thanks for all the good will from everyone, I am still angry enough to bite nails and spit tacks. If they catch these thieves, I will ask that BassResource.com people be put on the jury.... cause like Charlie Daniels says,,,, Hang em in a tree and let em swing till the sun goes down, take em out in a swamp, tie em to a stump, let the bugs, and the snakes and the alligators do the rest. Anyone doubt that I am a believer in capital punishment???? :o :o Adam, I may give you a call, I am off on Friday... it will have to be your boat though, I have mine tore down and working on it, which I have to put on hold till this is all straightened out.
