Guest avid Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Well the good news is that I have been released from Physical Therapy. I have a home prgram to increase strenth and flexibility. The bad news is that because of the weight of my canoe, battery, and motor it will be about six months before I can safely lift that much weight. SIX MONTHS. And that's assuming that I progress at the expected rate. I can get a small battery from wal-mart, that would wiegh maybe 40 lbs instead of the 66 my trojan weighs, but it's still going to be months before I can lift, transport and launch on my own. So, I'm glad I've developed a real liking for bank fishing because that's where it's it at for me for awhile. Thanks to RoLo, Stansdwarf8, and Keithscatch for inviting me to fish with them. I very much appreciated your generosity. avid, P.S. I didn't know how to thank the guys who took me fishing on thier boats with my "broken fin" without it sounding like some sleazy attempt at arousing sympathy to garner a few more invites. I think they know me well enough to understand where I'm coming from. PPS- When your body is in pain the message is not "take another pill" Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 20, 2006 Super User Posted December 20, 2006 Well boys, lend the man your hand if you can. Just don't over do it, we expect to see your smiling face in Texas in three months. Quote
Super User flechero Posted December 20, 2006 Super User Posted December 20, 2006 Avid, Did you once post that you had a little trailer for the canoe? Just wonder if it's possible to launch it like a regular boat and you wouldn't have to lug battery and T-motor. ??? When I had my rotator cuff surgery, I was able to launch a boat from trailer long before I could actually fish from it. ...lol (and I did, just to get on the water) Good luck with the rehab, keep to the schedule, and maybe you'll get a little ahead. keith Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 I'm offering to be your personal buck boy at fork. Whatever you need toted around, luggage, gear to the boat, whatever, if we catch you doing it alone, you'll be in trouble, that's what we are for. You don't sound like the type to over-do it or to not ask for help but I'm just putting it out there now, whatever you need. I carry stuff for a living, not an issue! Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Hey Avid hang in there Find someone you can fish with and get your butt to the FORK Hey give me a call Tommorow Thur after 9pm Mudddy Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 Sounds like your sleazy attempt at arousing sympathy to garner a few more invites worked ;D Hang tuff big guy, we're pulling for you Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 Hang tough, but first and foremost, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. The last thing you want is a relapse in pain. Hope to meet you someday Quote
RiskKid. Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Hey Avid.....hang in there, the bank ain't so bad (at least the wind won't blow you around as much ;D) and you know we'll all pitch in at the Fork.....take care of the body first and foremost, we're in your court! PS I'll bet Muddy's meatballs will work for you like spinach did for Popeye ;D Quote
Guest avid Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 No, I don't have a trailer, but the more I think about it, it's really the only thing that makes sense. I'll have to save up a little and put off buying that new steez, but with the trailer, I can keep everything in the canoe. If I'm careful and the item isn't too awkard i'm good to lift about 20 pounds, so by the time fork comes around, I should have no trouble handling my gear. I was just really dissapointed when I got the word, that any heavy lifting for the next six months puts me at high risk for re-inury. I think I may..............wait, the words keep getting stuck in my throat, but I think I may look for a j....o.....b. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 Job? Did you say joib? Avid, if you can't lift anything how can you work? Your best bet is to watch fishing shows on TV and read fishing books and clean your gear and organize your tackle and equipment and make lots of notes and stay inside to heal properly. Remember, if the doctor tells you not to lift anything over 5 pounds and you now have to sit down to go to the bathroom, you are in better shape than you know! ;D Get well and keep those posts coming! Merry Christmas Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 If I'm careful and the item isn't too awkard i'm good to lift about 20 pounds Huh does this mean you can lift a 20 pound bass? :-/ Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Man, I hope that wing gets better soon. Stick with your rehab program, and you should do just fine. As for getting a job, Avid, I think I'd see Maynard G. Krebbs get a job before you...(now that's dating myself...) Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Good to see you're out of therapy, and as mentioned, don't over do it. My grandpa just had a knee replacement and one of the nurses put too much weight for him to use during therapy, and he had to have another surgery to replace the damage. Bank fishing isn't that bad when you're trying to get better. Maybe LBH can take you in his boat, just tell him once you get the state record bass in at Fork, then you need him to lift it out of the water (just watch he doesn't do the ole try-to-net-the-fish-snap-the-line trick... ;D). Super User roadwarrior Posted December 21, 2006 Super User Posted December 21, 2006 A job? Call your doctor right away, you need some different drugs! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 A job? Call your doctor right away, you need some different drugs! Or less of the ones you got!! lol What are you thinking of doing? Quote
Guest avid Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 You guys be funny. I am recuperating, but it's a very slow process. Like I said, I like the bank fishing just fine, but I get bored with it after just a couple hours. I'm not sure what I want to do. I always liked an office environment but I definitly do not want a pressure job, then again some mindless "do you want to supersize that " is also out of the question. I don't know. But I definitly want a trailer, and I also need to pay down the plastic a little. So unless one of my good BassResource.com buddies wants to loan me 5 or 6K than It looks like a job is in order. My wife suggested I skip lake fork and apply that money to the trailer. It makes sense in purely financial terms, but I'm commited to meeting and hanging out with you bass bums, so I need to find another way. I'll figure something out. Oh and LBH thanks for offereing to be my personal butt boy, I mean buck boy but I hope I won't have need for the service (either of them) Quote
Chris Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 http://stores.gorgeflyshops.com/Categories.bok?category=Inflatable+Boats%3ACompany%3AFishcat I got a boat by colemens like one of these that also is a paddle boat that I use on small water. You might look into it for the short term and it is alot cheaper than a trailer. :-? Quote
