Crabcakes Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 This is a shame: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7005844811 I once saw a documentary on them. Very cool animals. Quote
justfishin Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 It saddens me to hear of this. We have been raping our planet and trashing our world way to many years. Mother nature is going to start pushing back very soon, I am afraid. Another very sad situation that breaks my heart is the condition of the Polar Bears. I watched a recent doc on this and it would bring tears to your eyes. Quote
nboucher Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I was fortunate enough to be in Churchill, Manitoba, a few years ago during the weeks when the polar bears were gathering to wait for the winter ice to form on Hudson Bay, ice that they could walk out on to get to the seals that form the basis of their winter diet. I can't tell you how thrilling it was to see them up close--their size, their whitish-yellowish fur, their lumbering gait, and their sheer bulk and strength. I'll never forget it. Their biggest enemy is warmth, warmth that restricts their winter ice and that, thanks to all their fat layers, literally causes them to overheat. I remember being out there in layers and layers of clothing, a balaclava covering the skin of my face, the icy falling snow hitting my eyes, and seeing bears playing and leisurely napping in the ice and snow, as if it were a day at the beach. Yes, global warming is killing them while we appoint committee after committee to do yet another study before taking action. It's incredible to me. And sickening. Quote
fishingrulz Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Over fishing is the stupidest thing i've ever heard of. Obviously the fishermen don't care. THey realize that they are gonna kill it off if they keep it up, but they don't care. Its a perfect example of human greed. They would better off killing some and letting most live rather than just fishing the hell out of them. But like I said....they don't care. Thats terrible such a beautiful animal gone because they want the money and everything else now...now, now, now. Well nice job. Quote

Guest avid Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 It is always a trajedy when due to human interference a species declines to the point of extinction. We are all connected. We all suffer when any sentient species is permanantly silenced. I sense a disturbance in the force. Quote
