Am I the only one who is kind of down since championship weekend? Bring on the bowls!!

Perhaps some College FB talk until then:

- Why two bowl games in Tempe? Are they in the same stadium?

- Is the NC the right matchup?

- Will a playoff system ever take off?

- Will the "short" horns ever make it back to the top?

- Can Boise State make a statement vs. OU?

- Will my Aggies beat Cal?

Anyone want to talk college FB?

I'm dying for some college football. Can't wait for the bowls to start. I only hope that my beloved Yellow Jackets can come out of their end of season slump and pull a win against West Virginia to make it 10 on the season.

I think the national championship is definately the right matchup. Even though I'm not sure Florida is a better team than Michigan, I do know that the Wolverines already had their shot. They controlled their own destiny, and had to beat Ohio State to go to the NC. They couldn't get it done, so the Gators deserve a shot.

I (along with everyone else) would love to see a college football playoff, but am not sure how likely it is. Time constraints with final exams for the players, and determining eligibility for a season that could overlap into spring semester complicate things a little bit. I don't think adding additional games would be a problem, as quite a few teams play 13 or 14 games a year already when you include conference championships and bowl games. I say a 4-team playoff (1 plays 4, 2 plays 3, then have a championship game) would be the way to go. Wipe out the BCS system, go back to just the USA Today and AP polls to pick the top 4, then do a playoff. Seems perfect to me.

I think Texas will continue to be in the national championship picture in the next few years, especially if Colt gets/stays healthy and stays in school.

Adam,  I agree with you on the NC game.  I think Michigan had their chance as well.  I still think that OSU is the best in the nation, but they'll have to prove it against Florda's fast defense.  Not that I care (you can see my hoodie), but Texas should be concerned with giving up so many points against Kansas State late in the season and giving up over 200 yards of rushing to my Aggies. Healthy Colt McCoy or not, they need to get a grip on D.  I think you might see an upset by Iowa.  They've lost everyone's respect since mid-season and would like to get it back.

The horns secondary has some play makers and serous hitters, but they couldn't cover a paper bag.

UT defense was #6 against the rush because mid season, teams finally realized that throwing the ball was a no brainer.

Don't care what team you had, you put a freshmen or rookie in with no college playing time and on average, that kid is gonna make rookie mistakes.

Just like OU last year and others that had a good core of players back, you put a rookie in the Mix and your gonna lose some games you probably should have won.

Concur with Mich already had its shot.      If you don't win your conference, you don't deserve the title shot.

I said mid season when the most of the unbeatens had fallen, that USC would be back in the picture and its theirs to lose.    They lost the chance also.

I think Florida should be next in line..

AS for college football withdraws, its giving me a chance to do some shopping.

Don't know probably $$$$

- Is the NC the right match up?

As far as the BCS is concerned

- Will a playoff system ever take off?

I doubt it, to much money involved

- Will the "short" horns ever make it back to the top?

They will stay in the top 10

- Can Boise State make a statement vs. OU?

Why certainly

- Will my Aggies beat Cal

My money is on the Aggies

Only 1 more game for Reggie Ball.  Only 1 more...

I love the guy's competitive spirit, but every game he plays in reduces my life expectancy by 2 years.

I I I I I 'm N N N N N Not having Wi Wi Wi Withdrawls. :'(

Two games in Tempe? Its the new BCS format. Each of the 4 bowls in a rotation will get 2 games a year.

Will tamu win? Only for the BIG12's sake will I root for the ags. Show us the money. ;) (I hate myself)

The Longhorns will stay above the ags as is the case this year. (a ag victory this year not withstanding. ;) )

Playoffs? More money to be made if a playoff system were in place. Bowl money+playoff money= more money. But the NCAA will have to modify schools classifications. In years past, it was the 1-A and 1-AA. The former Division I-A is now the Bowl Subdivision. Its champion is determined by the BCS system and its championship game played in January. The former I-AA teams are now known as the Championship Subdivision. These teams crown a champion through the 16-team playoff system now under way. Ironic that "CHAMPIONSHIP" is not in the top tier subdivision name. ;D

Boise St/ou - Again, go BIG12. ( I hate myself again.)

Spoken like true college fans.      Honor thy team first, then your conference, even if you don't like the Tamu ags or Boomer Bloomers from Oklahoma.

Go Big XII, you got no respect from the so called experts this year, they don't consider the previous years very much do they.

KSU is under new management  coach.

Mizz has new freshmen QB and coach.

Colorado has new head coach.

Nebraska was in second year with new offense and coach.

Oklahoma St, after beating OU twice in 3 years lost their coach to LSU, thus new coach.

Baylor is Baylor, even with 2nd year coach.

Anybody see the Article where the moms and parents of some of the new freshmen class of Ark. football team went to visit the head coach to complain about the offense and their kids not catching 60 passes a season.

Poor Houston McNutt, has a Heisman canidate running back, and parents want them to throw more or they'll tranfer their kids.

If I had Mcfadden, I'd of ran the ball also.

Just my .02 cents on football today.

i'm still in the "what coulda been stage". starting 4-1 and not making it to a bowl game sucks, especialy when you lose on the last play of the game to usc, go to overtime against cal and zona state, and lose at home to stanford. oh yeah, did i mention we lost our starting quarterback in the 6th game of the season? no? well, that didn't help either. if you haven't figured it out i'm talking about washington. the thing that sucks about next year is the teams we're playing.... in order, at syracuse, boise state, ohio state, at ucla, usc, cal, at zona state, oregon...... the only thing we have to look forward to is our red-shirt freshman quarterback jake locker..... even with all that, at least we beat wazzu!!!

as for the bowls, some of them are interesting match-ups. i think the bcs got the right match-up in the national title. if your only loss all season in the sec is at aubern, you're pretty dand good imo. as for your aggies, i don't know what to think about cal, they've shown flashes of greatness and then the lose to zona...... i'll be rooting for cal though.

GO PAC-10!!! except those dang ducks!!!

so the same voters that said all year long (practically) that Mich was number 2 team in the country, the same voters that said they were number 2 even after losing to OSU, just decided that after being idle for two weeks that they really werent number 2?

If USC had beat UCLA would Florida have jumped Michigan?  I highly doubt it.

So as the rankings were set before Florida won the SEC champ i believe Michigan should be in the NC game.

Do i believe Mich should have stayed #2 after losing?  no.  but they did stay #2 so i dont see how being idle constitutes a jump.

I'm kinda glad Florida is in though, cause when OSU whips them we can all sit back and say the SEC isnt as good as the experts say they are.

AHEM........9 of 12 schools going to bowls this year....not too shabby......no doubt OSU is favored and should be but when it comes to depth of quality teams its tough to beat the SEC.....Just a humble opinion from The Big Orange Nation.....GO VOLS!!!!!!!!

my point exactly.  there are lots of teams from the SEC playing in bowls, but i believe it's because everyone is in love with the conference.  someone mentioned this in another college FB thread and i believe its true...the sec teams never schedule anyone outside their conference worth a flip, no one, except for Arkansas. They did play USC early in the year, and they got beat huge.

No doubt the conference is good, it's prob the best conference when you average the teams, but it doesnt necc mean they are the best teams, just best average overall. I might be way off, but i think the sec gets major media favor every year.

thats just my opinion. guess we'll see the next 3 weeks.

I don't know about the other schedules but my Vols opened the year vs a higly touted Cal team and beat em pretty soundly. We play Cal again next year and the following year we have NC State and UCLA both on the scedule. That along with all the SEC rivals makes a pretty formidable schedule.

Well how about us guys in badger land. We lose one games all year and it was agianst mich. Sure we didn't play real tuff teams but come on.

Don't count Florida out yet   ;)

All the other conferences can schedule any SEC team why don't they?   8-)

Hey guys,

There's a full slate of 2006 games on Espn classic all day today (Florida-Auburn, Oklahoma-Oregon, Texas- KSU, etc.)  I also noticed a couple of Division II playoff games (playoffs, there's an idea) on this afternoon and tonight.  Then, it all starts with the Poinsettia Bowl on Tuesday night.  Although I'm not a real big fan, one of my local teams is playing.  Go Frogs!!
