BASS fisherman Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I recently found out that at the exact spot where I shore fish on the Allegheny river, a man's car with him inside, was found. I have fished the spot many times, and have most likely lost a rig or several on his car. Is that creepy or what? I've heard of guys finding bodies while fishing, but to know you have been fishing around a mans last resting place is just creepy to me. Poor guy but atleast IMO he is in a better place. Missing Plum man found in river Kristie Linden Staff Writer Wednesday, December 6, 2006 A three-year mystery was solved this week when a Plum man's body was found in his car at the bottom of the Allegheny River. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's officer positively identified the skeletal remains as Myron Simon, who was 50 at the time of his disappearance in December 2003. Simon's car was found near the Marina Boat Launch in Tarentum. Simon drowned and the medical examiner ruled the death a suicide. Simon was a faculty member at the Boyce Campus of Community College of Allegheny County where he taught physical education for 28 years. He was last seen alive by a student on Dec. 2, 2003. His body was found on Dec. 2, 2006. Plum police had been searching for Simon's car, a 2002 Saturn sedan, and Simon's family was offering a reward for information on the vehicle in the hopes that finding the car would mean finding Simon. At the time of his disappearance, police searched Simon's house and found nothing out of the ordinary except a note from Simon indicating that he believed himself to have a terminal illness. He had been diagnosed with depression. Plum Detective Ken Farmerie said Simon's bank records were investigated and remained untouched from the date of his disappearance. "There was no sign of him whatsoever," said Farmerie. "We got calls and leads, but they were dead ends. We talked to his co-workers and they all spoke highly of him. He was well liked. "There was no foul play suspected from the beginning." Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Believe it or not, I have pulled bodies from the water. When flight 800 went down off the Long Island coast, I was on a commercial boat just putting out for a trip, but when the captain learned about what had just happened, we immediatle went to the crash site to help look for, well, anything. We hauled up a lot of parts, seats, luggage, and one body. To this day I am kinda freaked about pulling that body aboard. It wasn't really identifiable as a person, except for the general shape, but the rest was so badly burned it almost seemed fake. To this day, I will wake up some nights with that vision in my head and just not know what to think or where I am. I sincerely hope that no one ever has to go through that process. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted December 8, 2006 Super User Posted December 8, 2006 I've pulled many bodies out of the water, but almost all of them had fins. I dare say that I would get the freaky, bejeebies if I hooked into a lifeless human body in the water. Quote
Guest avid Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 where's muddyman. Anyways, weez guys from Brookly don't take bodies outta da wada. If you get my drift. Quote
justfishin Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Believe it or not one of our fellow guides on the Susquehanna in PA snagged a decapitated head about 12 or 13 years ago. He reported it and it ended up being part of a murder case that was ongoing. It really shook him up !!! Quote
Murray Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 imagine how dissapointed to be if snaggeds something heavy and you were like MAN! this thing is so big its not even fighting!! then you pull up a body...dang. Quote

Daniel My Brother Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 This reminds me of a story my grandpa liked to tell: When they were building the old Memorial bridge across the Mississippi river in Quincy, a worker fell into the foundation while they were filling it with concrete. There was apparently no way to save him, so they just continued to pour. When the forms were removed, the sole of his boot was visible just above the water line. Over the years the sole disintegrated and you could pull your boat up and pick at the bones in his feet. Quote
bassdocktor Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Actually in Chicago a few guys I fish with have seen bodies floating when they are pulling them out of the Cal Sag. Sometimes they will close one of the ramps when they have to pull a body out. Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 DMB welcome to the NUT CLUB Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 DMB welcome to the NUT CLUB lol is that what you and avid call yourselves? ;D Seriusly though, here in NJ you got to be really careful. When a corpse is over 2 days old it will start to bloat up. If you snag one with your trebble hooks it will pop and scare most of the bass away. LOL now can i join your club muddy? Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted December 9, 2006 Super User Posted December 9, 2006 Not while fishing but did while crabbing. In 1966 I was working a crab trap off the pier at Panama City Beach Fl, when I pulled up a drowned man. The man had been missing about 30 minutes and search boats had just showed up to start looking for him a couple of hundreds yards up the beach when I pulled him up. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 9, 2006 Author Posted December 9, 2006 Simon was a faculty member at the Boyce Campus of Community College of Allegheny County where he taught physical education for 28 years. He was last seen alive by a student on Dec. 2, 2003. His body was found on Dec. 2, 2006. The weird part about the story, other than me fishing all around and over the car, he was found exactly 3 years after he was last seen. And the guy who found him and the vehicle was practice diving. He is a rescue diver, and was doing some cold water diving practice. On the news he said the visability was only 6 inches so he literaly ran into the car. He switched a light on and seen it was a car. He exited the water and called the police. 3 years to the day, and found totally by accident? Pretty amazing coincidence IMO. Quote
Valascus Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I have never caught a body, but one of the reserves I fish on was part of one of the most infamous crimes in St. Louis history...made even worse because it was never solved. I am talking about the Angie Housman case. Her body was found mutilated on Busch Wildlife Conservation Reserve. I remember talking about that with one of my friends while we were night fishing there. That will give you the heeby jeebies real quick. They never did crack that case, and that poor little girls killer is still unknown and remains at large to this very day. That was back in Nov. of 1993. http://p076.ezboard.com/fmissing87975frm83.showMessage?topicID=21.topic Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 11, 2006 Super User Posted December 11, 2006 Busch Wildlife is infamous. Several years ago a fisherman is said to have snagged a body in one of the lakes along highway D. I don't know if this is true or not but around that time they started draining lakes along highway D. The official reason was the Conservation Dept. was making the lakes deeper, and adding rock points to them, but you never know. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I was with my dad once (firefighter) when he got called in for a call on the Mississippi River where a boat had gone through the Dam rollers. I saw the body when they brought it in from the boat and it was the worst thing I have ever seen in person. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 12, 2006 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 12, 2006 I was in a club tournament about 10 years ago when one of the competitors found a floating body. Apparently the guy had got drunk the night before and decided to go for a swim. A different time I was fishing and saw several police boats in the middle of the lake. They were there all day, going back and forth with divers. I had a hunch what was up, but it wasn't until later at home when I watched the news did I find out 3 teens drowned after partying late into the night, and then jumped into a canoe and paddled off, never to be seen again. Senseless, needless losses. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 12, 2006 Super User Posted December 12, 2006 I have found a body on lAKE Vernon near Leesville Louisiana; it had been under water for 5 days. NOT A PRETTY SITE Quote
