There was a time when enlightenment wasn't synonymous with a total lack of common sense.

And people wonder why there was less crime back then. Becuase people carried rifles in their cars, people didn't hi-jack cars. Becuase people had pistols in their bed stands, robbers didnt come running into houses. Becuase when some one murder some one else, he would get the chair, not 10 years in prision.

Makes a fellow wonder where the legal system will be in 20 years....

Ufortunately, we have legislated stupidity back into the gene pool.  It used to be if you did sometining really stupid, if the actions did not take you out of the gene pool and you continued those actions sooner or later it would.... or at least no one would think you were justified in doing something stupid.

Now, the goverment legislates laws to protect us from our own stupid actions, and we can sue and live on the money of others because we do stupid and/or dangerous things.....  and keep the stupid dna in the gene pool.....

No wonder this country is getting dumber and dumber, and lazier and lazier....

Do not mean to sound harsh, but come on,,,,,,,

think I will head on down to MacDonalds,,see if I can spill super hot coffee in my lap...... I see a new bass boat coming.   ;D :o ::)

That's why West Virginia has one of the lowest murder rates in the country. We have on average of 5-10 murders per year in our largest city, Charleston. The reason? West Virginians have loose gun laws. However, take a city like Chicago which has very strict gun laws, and look at the murder rate there.

yeah that is how it works. sad.

being rated the dangerous city in america-st.louis-(even though there are alot more dangerous cities) you hear about 3-4 murders daily, 1-2 fires caused by arson, and a ton more.

Back then my friends and I could take our .22s to school and leave them in the principles office because a bunch of us boys were going squirrel hunting after school. None of us would have ever thought of shooting other kids or teachers. I guess back then we were smart enough to realize that doing such a thing would be throwing away the rest of our lives so we just duked it out and left it at that.

It's not the laws .... it's the people and lawyers trying to make a buck anyway they can.

My grandpa and I get into this discussion all the time, most recently Thanksgiving.  He told me of a story when he was a little boy .... around 7 years old or so.  His dad let him sit on his lap and drive the car.  Well one time he accidentally hit a mail man pretty good and broke some of his ribs.  My great grandfather supposedly got out and apologized up and down and the mail man accepted his apology and supposedly even got a laugh out of it.  My great grandfather was the local barber and offered him some free haircuts even though the mailman had completely accepted the apology.

Could you imagine what would happen today in that situation??????

There's more though ....... The mailman came in for the next year for his free haircuts where my grandfather also worked.  Keep in mind he is 7 years old (wouldn't happen today) He swept the floors and shined shoes.  Every time the mailman would come in my grandpa would shine his shoes and tip him what it would have cost him for a haircut.  He told him each time to save up for his first car and got a good laugh at it.

I alway told my Mom that if we lived in this day and age she would have gotten life for some of those A** whoopins I got as a kid when I was a little too ornery. I tell you this, that woman could down a deer at 100 yards with a flip flop !!!, lol.
