Shad_Master Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Would it be possible to set of a data base patterned after the fishing log offered at this site where members of the forum could record their catches? Our local club used to have something like this and it was cool to have a history to refer to when fishing a lake for the first time (to see what worked at that time of the year, etc.) and also to keep a record of what was happening when. I know we have an area for "braggin" and this is cool, but this would be an alternative to that. Just a thought. Quote
New 2 Bass Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 cough, cough... Time and Money. cough, cough.... Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 That sounds like it would be great, but it would probaly be hard to pull off. If it could be done i think it would be awsome. Being able to see where fish where cought and when at sertain lakes would be really helpful. Sorry for being off topic, but i dont think this is worth making another thread for: The other day i was thinking how cool it would be if there was a weekly live auction in the Flea Market board. Like, a few members could have stuff they wanted to sell, and every week at a set time one of the mods would open a live chat in the Flea Market and auction them off. the highest bidder for a item would then contact the seller via PM. If for some reason the highest bidder failed to come through, then the 2nd highest bidder could buy it. I know this also would be hard to too, but it is just a thought. Quote
Michael H Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Since we are giving sugestions i have one that would be nice and seems pretty easy a spell check since so many people spell things wrong. i see it on lots of forums so i dont think it could be to hard. Quote
Bud Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I agree with a spell checker. I know that I would use it. Quote
Lady Bass Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 my suggestions:the board colors are ok..but there sorta dull looking when I first see the board..a change of colors would be a nice try guys!and the spell check I have it on another board where I go and it's more of a pain then any good..it takes longer to make a post. Quote
Guest avid Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Leave it to one of the ladies to comment on the colors. Gotta love it. I think the data base idea would be great, but it would be a huge undertaking. this is an international forum. There are probably a thousand lakes that are routinely fished by members. I don't see how it would be possible to pull it off. Quote
Bud Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 and the spell check I have it on another board where I go and it's more of a pain then any good..it takes longer to make a post. Even if it does slow down the posting. The way some on this board spell it would be a big help. You have to get your decoder ring out on some post to understand what they are saying. Quote
Hale Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 How about a BS Meter that sends a 50,000 volt surge of pain through their mouse when they post/reply to something that they have no idea what they are talking about. Or even better, charge an annual membership so it will weed out some of the people that only post crap. Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 This all sounds good!! who's buyin'??? Quote
Shad_Master Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 Okay, so I asked what I thought was a legitamate question and the only actual responses are "time and money" and "it would be a cool idea". No serious response from either Glen or the moderators so I assume that there is no interest in this. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 3, 2006 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 3, 2006 That one response IS your answer. No need to reiterate it. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I really apreciate the time that Glenn and the Mods put into this forum. I have never asked a Mod in any PM something that tey havent answered, despite all thier responsibilities they already have. I am sure that Glenn does a lot none of us realize and I have been here a little more than a year and he has added features along the way So i think we should all be grate ful for all that he does and the Mods do, b/c they AINT TAKING ANY MONEY OUT OF OUR POCKETS to provide all these services to us. This place is so good I would pay a fee to be here ( Dont let Glenn Know ) Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 3, 2006 Super User Posted December 3, 2006 Shad, If you look back in history at previous suggestions you will notice that we (Glenn and Mods) usually don't respond to any ideas. It's not that we don't like them. We read them and then discuss them with each other. Then Glenn decides if it is possible or not. If you ask any of us who have been around a while we will tell you that not much has changed and changes only happen once or twice a year. Putting new ideas into effect takes time, planning, and sometimes lots of money. If you only knew how many ideas us Mods have had that we have discussed and in the end just couldn't happen you would understand. So don't get upset about it. It was nothing personal against you. So don't attack us for not responding. Quote

Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 3, 2006 Super User Posted December 3, 2006 Or even better, charge an annual membership Let me add. Quote
Hale Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Thats not even fair to quote me if you arent going to use to whole phrase......For this kind of abuse I could hang out with my wife LOL Quote
Super User flechero Posted December 4, 2006 Super User Posted December 4, 2006 This all sounds good!! who's buyin'??? Lots of us. A few bucks from a percentage of the membership adds up fast! Don't underestimate the thousands who come here. There is a lot of money in this membership, and I'm sure if there were needs, lots of people would donate. I would be first in line if Glenn made a request. It was nothing personal against you. So don't attack us for not responding. I understand his wanting a response, he posted in public as opposed to a PM for the benefit of others. A simple "it's being discussed" or a "no" followed by a reason wouldn't have been too much to ask, would it? It would have been less effort than defending why no one responded. Besides, with such a well behaved bunch of people, what else do you have to do??? ;D (yes, that part was a joke!) Quote
Hale Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 All jokes aside maybe there should be something where members can make a 'donation' and become something like Charter Members. Paying members could be provided with a special icon and a gallery perhaps that allows them to upload personal photos with their profiles. I dont know if Glenn or the other guys actually have anything to do with the coding of the site but it really wouldnt be labor intensive and well worth the potential revenue. Quote
jb_from_texas Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 my suggestions:the board colors are ok..but there sorta dull looking when I first see the board..a change of colors would be a nice try guys!and the spell check I have it on another board where I go and it's more of a pain then any good..it takes longer to make a post. if the colors changed Glenn would have to have his boat repainted. dont think that is gonna happen Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 he had to order those colors custom from Ranger and personally, although I would never have chosen this color scheme myself, I have grown to appreciate why Glenn chose it. It's nature-y Very easy on the eyes Helps things stand out from each other by having all earth tones but drastically different ones. Hale- Many good suggestions here but as Fluke said, it's a time and money thing. We have thrown around some ideas together that would surely blow the members away but Glenn quickly explains what would be involved and as muddy would say,...fuggetaboutit,lol. Glenn has always been a bit of a control freak. I mean that as a compliment. His strict control over what his vision for the site is, is what has brought us to be the biggest and best ,most active web community in the bass fishing world. I'm not sure if accepting donations would make him feel like he would be giving up some of the control. This has always been a 1 man deal. As mods, we are merely the helpers. We give out input and it is readily recieved and listened to wholeheartedly, just as your suggestions are. After that, it's Glenns ball and speaking on behalf of his team, we are just fine with that. Many have noticed that the forum does change every now and again. When Glenn decides to make a change, it can be months before it can actually be initiated for a number of reasons beyond our control. All I can say, in short, is this..... Glenn makes this place the best place to be. He cares and is always listening to all ideas. He has a motto that is a very good one and it goes like this. "Promise very little and over-deliver" When the time comes for change, I can assure you, Glenn has taken all suggestions into account but will ultimately make the decision to do whatever needs being done to complete his vision. We all need to trust in that vision, it hasn't been wrong yet. ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED AND APPRECIATED, BUT PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED IF IT ISN"T OPENLY DISCUSSED OR IMPLEMENTED. Know, however, that you are being heard. Thanks guys Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 And don't feel bad about the donations, guys. I'd be happy to take them off your hands if you want to give away money so bad. ;D Always Caring, Troutfisher91 Quote
Super User senile1 Posted December 4, 2006 Super User Posted December 4, 2006 I'm not a moderator but I see the wisdom in the way this site is run. A free forum is always the best idea. There are plenty of members and guests who frequent this forum. The vendors know this, so Glenn can make revenues from their advertising. These two work hand in hand. You get more hits on the site and the forum since it is free, which draws more advertising dollars. And the vendors can pay more than any member fees would ever generate. Changing colors? I've thought about that, but I've noticed that everyone who knows me and observes my monitor recognizes this site from all the other sites I look at. ("Oh, you're on that bass fishing site again?") The colors tip them off. It's a good business decision to have colors that make you stand out from the crowd. As for the other suggestions I've seen here, I like some of them too, but time and money rules when you're trying to make a living. Quote
Shad_Master Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 Well, since I started this thread, hopefully I will end it as well. I did not intend to be critical of anything about the way the forum is set up or administered. I was simply offering, what I thought, would be a good suggestion. I specifically addressed it to the Administrator and the Moderators so you could give me some feedback as to if there was a good reason not to do this. I am not a computer person, so there is much that I don't understand about what can and can't happen here. But I was a little disappointed when it appeared that the Admin and Mod's were not even taking the time to respond. Maybe I should have handled this through a PM, but I thought that if it was interesting to some of the others in the group they might chime in with their suggestions as well. I truly enjoy being a part of this forum and appreciate how much I have learned. Maybe one of the things I need to learn is to stay out of discussions that I don't know enough about to contribute. BTW, thanks for your response Flecthero, but I was not ever trying to "attack" anyone and certainly hope no one thinks that I ever would. Quote
