Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 It is so peacefull and serene.........yeah, everything is peaceful and serene when your rear end begins to freeze. Nah, you can never convince me, I 'm a warm loving critter; I even turned a good job opportunity ( 50 Can/hour for starters ) in a meat packing company in Canada. Better poor in the warm than rich in the friggin ' cold ! No worries buddy, they make flannel lined skirts for the girls who start complaining around 30 degrees, lol Quote
FishinChef Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Different strokes for different folks I guess. I went to college in Providence and am very familiar to your winters. I remember seeing snow piles still on the ground in April : And the girls were wearing mini skirts or ripped blue jeans while I had long underwear and wool socks on I'm a warm weather type of guy myself, I like the climate where you dress up by putting on your best pair of shorts and a collared T-shirt. Always found it easier to cool off than warm up. And working in hot kitchens for over 15 yrs has made me tolerant to most heat and humidity extremes (this summer my kitchen was 120', even hotter on the grill and saute stations). I live in SC PA now and enjoy everything but the winters. As I've gotten older all my injuries from my youth come back to haunt me; broken bones, back surgery, etc.. It really lights me up when there is a drastic change in temperature. Heck, I wont even buy a snowblower because I'm still in denial. I keep looking for the right oppourtunity to move back south and hope to be back one day, maybe after the kids are out of the house. Quote
nboucher Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 One of my favorite things to do in winter is strap on snowshoes and head off into placesswamps, marshes, etc.that are inaccessible for the rest of the year. There is no better tracking than a day or so after fresh snow, when you can pick up some tracks and read in them the story of what the animals were doing. Now, after heavy snow, I snowshoe out to the hills out back, creating a trail that the neighborhood kids can then follow with their sleds. And don't forget making snow angels, which never gets old. LBH, how well I remember snow days when I was growing up in New Hampshire. In states like that, which know how to move snow around to keep roads clear, there had to be A LOT of snow before we'd have a snow day. We'd sled down the hills to the pond across the street, then shovel out an area for skating. When it got dark, we'd go inside with runny noses and the smell of wet wool, where the hot chocolate was waiting with a spoonful of Marshmallow Fluff on top. Man, those were great times!! Thanks for reminding me. . . Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted November 28, 2006 Super User Posted November 28, 2006 I lived in Denver for seventeen years and enjoyed winter and everything associated with all the opportunities that were available in Colorado. Winter was beautiful. But now that I have lived in Tennessee for nearly ten years I have a greater appreciation for our winters. We generally have three or four weeks of brutally cold weather, sometimes dipping below thirty degrees! December FEELS like Christmas and helps me appreciate the spring, even if it arrives a little early (late February). I think the winter is very hard on our smallmouth bass, too. It seems like they are always hungry. Poor things. I plan to help them as much as possible and supplement their diet with some fresh minnows every chance I get. Quote

Forget the starving kids in Ethiopia, RW has adopted a few smallies for "about the cost of a cup of coffee per day" ;D ;D Roadwarrior, You inspire me! ....lol Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 29, 2006 Super User Posted November 29, 2006 If conditions are tough at Lake Fork in March, we might feed a few minnows to some of your Texas bass this spring, too! Quote

I think I know but not sure Does it inclued a Truck, hitch, ski rope and a snowboard. :-? I've done that back in the high school days, but it included a Honda Accord w/ the trunk open, one guy in the trunk holding onto a rope, and an POS water ski with the fin cut off. Quote
Valascus Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Yeah...those pic are very pretty...and there are many nice comforting things about the winter that are nice and cozy feeling...EXCEPT FOR IT'S FREAKIN' FREEZIN' OUTSIDE. I am with Raul here...I despise cold weather. I don't think there are many things about it I would miss if I lived somewhere where it didn't occur. Cold weather just...well...it just sucks. Â Quote
Hookem Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I have never been anywhere there is snow for a season. While y'all are out enjoying the white stuff and it is pretty when it snows here every 10 years or so........ 2 things......... 1. When it snows here, day off! 2. While y'all are dashing through the snow.......we are trying for one of these..... ;D ;D ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 Norman- Marschmellow fluff.....ummm,..hit the nail on the head! RW- I can appreciate that. Â Enough to keep you hungry but no slush, lol. GMAN- Skitchin, or skid hoppin', is when you grab the bumper of a passing car or, a kids favorite, a UPS/mail/oil/milk truck (slower moving) and squat and ski on your soles,....(till you hit a man hole cover which has no snow on it from the steam,....ow) Often, you are spotted by the driver who kindly whips you into the embankment to rid you from his bumper. Ahhhh,...my youth,... Hookem--That thing real? Â Quote
basspro48 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Just because we're from the south doesn't mean we've never seen snow before. We get at least one good snow here in VA every year, except for last year >. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I hope your not calling that little bit of white stuff a good snow. Â You can still see the ground. ;D ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 THAT'S LAST NIGHT'S FROST!!! ;D Actually, you get the nice visuals but don't have 3 days of slush after. Â Must be a nice change when it does snow down there. Quote
Valascus Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Unfortunately it appears that Saint Louis is about to get absolutely hammered by a pretty good winter storm (by midwestern standards anyway). 1/4" to 3/4" of ice followed by 8"-12" of snow. Temps are about to plummet from 60's down to mid 30's and continue falling throughout the rest of the day tomorrow. The low on Friday is 12 degrees. Far cry from the 70 degree day we just had around here. That's a pretty good snow around these parts. we never seem to get hit too bad... maybe a couple storms roll through that may drop 1 to 4 inches of snow every year, but something like this is pretty rare. Oh well... Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 And then it's all ours. Â We are expecting 67-70 degrees tomorrow. Â then the plummett. Â Valascus- let me know how it goes. Â This will be our 1st storm. Â WOOHOO!! The cool thing about new England is alot of medium storms have the chance to hook out over the Atlantic and drop back in on us but 4x as strong. Â Nor' Easter,.......Arrrrrrr....LOVE IT!!! Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 That is the worst when you get freezing rain, and then snow. Â Everything shuts down. Â It is supposed to hit us in western Pa on Thursday into Friday. Â Our first storm too, I can't wait!!! Quote
Guest avid Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 those pix are truly beautiful. Question. Which iceberg is holding the bass? Quote
Murray Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 you even mention the word "snow" on the news and schools close. Quote

Valascus Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Whew...we are getting pounded. It's been nothing but ice since about 10 this morning. Now they are saying a full inch of ice and sleet followed by the foot of snow. Travel is gonna be fu-un. Good thing I ain't got nowhere to be. : Quote
Bud Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I haul a load of cars out of St Louis this morning and drove through ice and snow all day Quote
