Other. Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I forgot about this one. I was fishing Lake Nedwood from bank because I know the best place on the lake and its right on the bank and I can pull like 10 bass out of this little place every time I fish it. Well It is really hard to get to becuase you have to walk though abunch of weeds hat are sholder high. Well these 2 adults and 2 children show up on a point thats right next to my honey spot and they drop a electric boat in the water and start fishing it right were I am casting. If anyone has a short fuse like me Im Sure you know what I did. If you dont just let your imagination take you from there. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 While its not an Peeve that pertains to actually being out on the water it is something that irratates me.  I hate trying to explain to some people why I like buying high end equipment. I don't like there arguements that the zebco 33 is just as good and the cheap wal-mart rods will do the same thing. Granted they will catch fish and there is nothing wrong with using them but it is my preferance to buy what I buy not theres.  So to combat this problem I don't tell them what I paid for something because thats what usaully gets it started.  And when someone does happen to know how much I paid for something and asks why  I Politely say if you have to ask you wouldn't understand.  I really don't understand why this is a big deal to some Quote
Troutfisher Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I hate when people look at me like I'm the little girl my dad is taking fishing. Older folks do that when I'm with my dad anywhere. "Is this little guy your helper today?" For God's sake, I'm 15, not 7. Anyway, my list in no particular order. *When you're bank fishing, people in boats who motor over to your spot, when they have the whole lake and they have to choose my spot. *People who cross lines with you *People who come in between you and your buddy while bank fishing and make about three casts with a noisy spinner, thus scaring any fish, then leaving *As mentioned by PinkFloyd, when someone holds a spinning rod upside down. > I mean, maybe you can fish like that, but it drives the heck out of me *People who have a negative outlook on life, and fishing, for example, "Beautiful weather today, ain't it? " "Supposed to rain, supposed to be windy, grumble grumble" Ok, there's my list. Quote

Bassinfreak2 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 My peeve may not be a big deal to most people but I just can't stand it when someone (usually a non fisherman) mentions how so and so's grandfather used to catch tons of fish with a cane pole and a can of worms "way back in the day" and with all the technology and $ spent on my equipment they cannot understand why I don't catch every fish in the lake! It takes everything I got to smile and shrug my shoulders. Ugh! Quote
Jerkbate Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 My peeve may not be a big deal to most people but I just can't stand it when someone (usually a non fisherman) mentions how so and so's grandfather used to catch tons of fish with a cane pole and a can of worms "way back in the day" and with all the technology and $ spent on my equipment they cannot understand why I don't catch every fish in the lake! It takes everything I got to smile and shrug my shoulders. Ugh! I know exactly what you mean. I'm like some of the others and don't let a lot bother me when I'm on the water. However, I cannot stand the jetskiers and waterskiers that have no respect for fishermen. A couple of weeks ago I was fishing a ditch that runs through a flat out into the main lake. My boat is sitting over the ditch in about 6 feet of water, but there was only about a two feet of water over the flat. Well a ski boat swings into the cove and the skier comes within 20 feet of my boat. This guys in the two feet of water, flying past me with the entire lake available to him. Part of me just hoped he'd fall. I did get some satisfaction later when, after making several passes close to me, the ski boat swung to close to the bank and ran a ground. The boats momentum carried it up into about 6 inches of water. They were still there trying to get the boat unhung when I left at dark. I probably should have help, but I simply smiled and waved as I past by. It also peeves me to go to the lake during the summer and have to deal with all the people there with boats that don't know how to run them. Most of these people are teenagers who have mom & dad's boat for the first time and haven't been shown how to properly operate it. However, I know some older people who are just as bad. I have a friend who is like this. He doesn't fish, but he's had a pontoon boat for about 3 years. Â He's never owned a boat before and had been on the water on a few times with other people before buying his own boat. Â He doesn't have a clue how to properly operate it. Â He gets smartmouthed and has an attitude if anyone tries to tell him what he's doing wrong. Â There is nothing wrong if you don't know how to operate the boat, but don't pretend that you do. If you don't know how ask somebody to show you. Quote

Guest avid Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I have a couple. first is people who live on the water and think they own the lake behind their house. then there are those anglers who always ask alot of questions about where the bass are located, whats the pattern, what lure, how deep, what color etc etc, Â but when you ask a question it's all general answers that don't tell you anything. Â Now, I'm talking about regulars on the lake not newbies. Â I know one guy in particular, who will put his rods down in the boat so you can't see what he's using, then ask you every question in the book. Â He stopped bothering me with his trash when I told him I was fishing the lake for snook. It's such a laugh playing with these kinds of guys. Â Most of the regulars on my home lake are great guys. Â We can share info, BS, have a few laughs and it adds to a great day on the water. Â That's the way I like it. Quote
jtbassman Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 If anybody surf fishes they will know what im talking about, when you have three rods straight out, and somebody pulls up beside you, pulls his rod out and throws over all three lines and then some. Â Then walks back, puts his rod in his spike like nothing happened, then one minute and 23 seconds later he pulls his rod in, reeling with the guides facing up...........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Quote
galv Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 hahaha avid.  tell all the dummies you're fishing for snook.  i'm writing that down  ;D Quote
fishingaddict Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 all of those are bad but I really someone who casts over my line especially on a party boat and definately people speeding past when i'm fishing in my boat Also people who regard fishing as a hobby or activity that is as easy as throwing out your line, laying back and having a fish just hook up And people with little patience who get fed up with fishing after half an hour of not catching anything (though sometimes i get frustrated too) Quote
h1x71 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 in a boat its floating trash if im on land beer cans all over the place Quote
bassmasta7 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Definitely taking out the boat is a pet peave but putting it in is not that bad. But like ku said when there are people swimming on the boat ramp and fishing there really gets to me. Also casting over my line. My biggest is when people in my boat try to make a perfect cast between like 10 branches when they have no shot at it. Then we spook all of the fish when we go over to the tree to get it unsnagged. Quote
cpvenom Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 People fishing off a bridge into the CHANNEL! Over spring break i was fishing with a guide for redfish. Going about 40 knots under a bridge, we didnt notice some jerkwad's line fast enough, and it caught me across the chest, cutting my arm after breaking. (The guide couldnt have been more upset, it wasnt even his fault) Â I turned around and the bridge guy is yelling in our direction like he had every right to fish in boat traffic. Had i been hooked, I cringe to think what would have happened. I still have a scar from that! Quote

Super User cart7t Posted August 20, 2006 Super User Posted August 20, 2006 The boat ramp campers really irk me. Â Even when there are signs posted it never fails. Ma, Pa and the kiddies have set up camp and are swimming, fishing or both. When I pull up to launch or take out, the looks on their faces is ridiculous. Like I'm interrupting their little day on the lake. Â : Bass fishermen (or anyone else for that matter) who questions and in some cases, try and preach that you don't need a $30 - 40K bassboat capable of 60 + mph to fish out of. Â Most of us that own faster, nicer bassboats are quite aware of that. In fact, most of us didn't start out in that type of boat but were johnboat fishermen or bank beaters. Â None of us need to be preached to. We certainly don't ridicule anyone who doesn't own a nice boat. Â Whether it's pure *** or just the need to preach, I don't need it, I heard enough of that from my Dad in my early years. People that wait till they're about to launch their boat before loading their gear into it which ties up the entire ramp. Â Of course the dufusses also spent 10 minutes backing and jackknifing the trailer in numerous attempts to get it in a position to launch it in the first place. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 One of the big things for me is haveing to explain why I paid what I did for fishing equipment or tackle. Â It touches a nerve when someone says its stupid to pay that much for a fishing reel or rod when you can buy a good one at Wal-mart. Â No offense to anyone who does buy there stuff at Wal-mart cause I have been there and done that. But I enjoy my higher end equipment and yes I think it makes me better. Â You couldn't give me a cheap rod or reel. Â I Plan on buying a Chronarch next weekend my way of combating the how much was that issue is to just tell em Walmart's got them for $40 thats where I got mine. Â Or better yet if you have to ask you wouldn't understand. Â Â One other is non sportsman while I have the most confadence that 99% of the people here pick up there trash there are the rest of the none serious fisherman who will leave there mess behind for others. Â I have found if your a true sportsman you respect the outdoors and wouldn't dare leave behind trash. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Another peeve of mine is one already mentioned several times. You get back to the boat ramp and the dock for tying off your boat is covered with all these "live bait, fishing for anything that bites" people. There's nowhere to tie up while you go and back the trailer in.I always "make myself a little room" to tie up,and it really po's these folks. What do they expect?Run my boat aground so they can catch their three or four 2" stunted bluegills.I guess I might be one of their pet peeves about fishing. Quote
utser Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 people giving me greif for throwing back a fish. i dont care what they do with the fish they catch, but dont give me the business i should have given them the fish. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted August 21, 2006 Super User Posted August 21, 2006 I just learned a new one this week. My kid fishing buddy and I only had an hour or so to fish so we decided to beat the bank rather than use up our fishing time hooking up, launching & putting away the boat. We were fishing the bank and catching a few fish when this lady comes along with her dog. She throws a stick in the middle of our fishing spot for the dog to retrieve. This is a several hundred acre lake. She could have played with the dog anywhere, she was oblivious. I was tempted to tie on a 1/2 ounce pear sinker and discourage the dog, but it wasn't the dog's fault. JMHO Ronnie Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 21, 2006 Super User Posted August 21, 2006 Fishing a tourney with one that didn't get rested the night before, didn't have rods rigged, didn't think about drinks or snacks, and when his day goes south, he has excuse for every thing except his "lack of preparation". Hookem matt. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 21, 2006 Super User Posted August 21, 2006 The boat ramp we use on the Tennesee River is VERY busy. Bank fishermen and campers have learned to move; this is not a recreational ramp, fish somewhere else or move when boats approach. No fishing, no swimming, no apologies: Get out of the road...Now! My biggest pet peeve is trash. Boat people seem to be very cognisant of their rubbish, but bank fishermen seem to think...well, never mind...they don't think. As much as I hate "trash" in general, nothing is worse than old line that people leave on the bank or in the river. That's #1 for me. Quote
