Troutfisher Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Well, the big question is upon us. Who will be the National College Football Champions and win the biggest BCS Bowl? A lot of names come to mind for me, but I've got to stick with my home state, West Virginia. If you didn't watch #5 West Virginia take on Maryland last night on ESPN, you missed a good game. West Virginia scored 28 points in the first quarter! I mean, the first quarter!!! Steve Slaton had over 200 yds. rushing, and WVU held Maryland to a 45-24 victory. WVU will at least be a contender, and may have a heisman hopeful. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 15, 2006 Super User Posted September 15, 2006 They have soft schedule. You better hope all the other teams have loses when the BCS starts. I don't think soft schedules should be looked at for championship status. TCU and Utah all went undefeated in the past years and didn't get noticed because of soft schedules. Matt. Quote
MinnesotaAngler Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Texas can't get to the National Championship unless Notre Dame and Ohio State blow it. No repeat for Texas as long as McCoy is playing QB. Brady Quinn wins it and takes the Heisman with him. 8-) Quote
tipptruck1 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I don't think texas will repeat. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Looks like Ohio State has a great team after the way they beat a very good Texas team. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 15, 2006 Super User Posted September 15, 2006 Although this is fun, it is really too early to start saying who will win the BCS. Too many good games on the horizon, especially in the SEC and ACC. Then there is the BCS championship game that can mess everything up when the favorites, like Miami of Florida and Oklahoma, lose. However, until they lose, I am voting for the LSU Tigers. I may be voting for someone else next week if the Fighting Tigers can't get by the Auburn War Eagles/Tigers/Plainsmen/Whatevers. Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 It is more of a fun thing than anything, Sam. I mean, the season's just started! Quote
Cajun1977 Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 LSU dont know why they arent listed Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 Cajun, LSU was added in place of Virginia Tech. Quote
bassmasta7 Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 LSU isnt going to win today let alone the national championship. I think there will be at least 3 teams that go undefeated until the bowls. I think USC, OSU, and WV. There could be more such as Auburn and ND. But Auburn wont go undefeated because there are to many good teams in SEC that are capable of having a great game and beating them (LSU, UF, UGA). My sister is goes to Auburn and is going to today's game. ND will not go undefeated because i have USC going undefeated. I wouldnt get to excited about that WV Maryland game because Maryland isnt nearly as good as they used to be and they still scored 24 pts. Quote
56 crestliner Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 The way OSU spanked Texas i would have to go with them Quote
preach4bass Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 After today's whopping by Michigan, I'd say it ain't gonna be Notre Dame!!! :) Quote
Troutfisher Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 I decided to revitalize the National Championship thread due to the fact that the season of college football is winding down. Too bad my West Virginia Mountaineers blew it to Louisville on Thursday night. So much for National Championship hopes. :'( Quote
jb_from_texas Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 for the life of me i dont see how WV or Louisville are/were ranked at 3 and 5. Neither have played a single good team. Louisville had Miami early but Miami turned out to be a flop. Ohio State barely got by today as well as Michigan. But all good teams have close games. Texas justs keeps winning but they will need quite a bit of help to get back to the championship. MinnAngler: you said "as long as McCoy is at Texas this season they wont repeat? I assume you really meant to say "since Vince left..." But i have to tell you, McCoy looks great. He was 23 of 29 tonight and threw 3 TD, no picks. And he just set the all time Texas single season TD record. Yep, more than Simms, Street and Super Man himself, Vince Young. Quote
Fishing Doug Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Ohio State-Longhorns matchup..... unless Louisville wins out....I don't see them beating Rutgers on Thursday. Quote
Troutfisher Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Hey, are you aware that if Rutgers beat Louisville and WVU beats Rutgers then there will be a three way tie for Big East Champs? Not for the National Championship, but for a Big East Conference Championship. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 5, 2006 Super User Posted November 5, 2006 I'm a LSU and SEC fan but every so often a major upset comes along and this year there will be another Louisville Cardinals Quote
RiskKid. Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Hey Catt and the LSU fans, I was at the game yesterday in hopes my beloved Vols would give you guys a spankin It's a shame you have those 2 losses with that defense. I have been at all the TN home games this year and that is by far the fastest and most talented defense I've seen. If not for turnovers you guys would have killed us and pehaps the FL game outcome would have been different. IMHO LSU easily has the talent to be in the Nat'l Championship mix. After the past two seasons I have to wonder about Les Miles and the coaching job. I know he's new but is the Tiger nation getting restless???? I think I would be....when you have that kind of talent you have to make the run when you can. It just seems to me they are very good but have been underachieving under Miles. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 5, 2006 Super User Posted November 5, 2006 The problem with LSU is their play calling is not aggressive enough; Jimbo Fisher needs to air the ball out. Too many offensive coordinators both in college and pros have the erroneous idea that you have to first run the ball in order to set up the pass. Sometimes you have to first pass the ball in order to set up the run. Case in point do you think the Colts will try to run the ball first and then pass? Quote
JiggaMan512 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 The way OSU spanked Texas i would have to go with them you consider 3 TDS getting spanked???? THIS is getting spanked: Texas 56, North Texas 7 Texas 52, Rice 7 Texas 56, Sam Houston State 3 Texas 63, Baylor 31 Texas 36, Oklahoma State 10 and thats just this year... Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 5, 2006 Super User Posted November 5, 2006 Risk Kid, LSU got screwed by the officials at Auburn and self-destructed against Florida. If Tennesee can defeat Arkansas this coming weekend and the Fighting Tigers can win at Arkansas the day after Thanksgiving the LSU has a shot at the SEC Championship Game against Florida. Of course, Auburn has to lose another game for LSU to have any chance of getting to the SEC Championship game. But that's OK. I picked the Fighting Tigers to go 9-3 with a nice bowl. The Outback and Cotton Bowls are interested in LSU but I am still hopeful the Fighting Tigers can go to a BCS Bowl game. Doubtful, but hopeful. I am going the Alabama game this weekend to see Mike Shula for the last time on the Bama sidelines. The Louisville coach is supposed to be going to Arizona next year but now I wonder if he will change his mind and go southeast to Alabama? As usual, it is another great year for college football.
