Lane Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 NICE CARP! Beautiful coloration as well. Was it caught on bread? I have heard of Big Red and Cereal. I have only caught one carp, and it took my lure while trolling for salmon. It put up one heck of a fight! Quote
Lady Bass Posted November 9, 2006 Author Posted November 9, 2006 Hi everyone and thank-you all for the warm welcomes. I truly appreciate them.by the way Andy thanks for posting the carp pics..I didn't think you still had them lol.. ok now lets talk fish..that carp was caught on scraps of bread under the gazebo at Twin lakes.I'm not sure why the carp was bleeding.the only think I can think that it was from the hook and my husband said the same thing.I reeled him in very carefully but the two guys got him in the nest and lifted him out but didn't throw him down hard or anything like that. after the pictures we're taken I carried him back to the water and drop him in very carefully and he swam away. PS.. Hi Lane, I'm glad to see another woman here to so now I won't feel bad posting here with all these guys.! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 9, 2006 Super User Posted November 9, 2006 I fish out of Bull Shoals Boat Dock when I'm over on the White River is north central Arkansas. They have some "pet" carp that everyone feeds around the dock, I'm talking about hundreds year around. Some of these fish may weigh 50 lbs. Those suckers can get HUGE! Arkansas State Record: 80 lbs Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Nice carp! did you weigh it? And i know the hardships of carp fishing. They are very hard to catch: one must wait a while with a line in the water. But it is all worth it once you see your line zipping acrossed the water, the carp heading for deep water. I like to carp fish while i bass fish. Double the fun. Quote

It's usually caused by the hook and because they have soft fleshy mouths, unlike a bass. Quote
Lady Bass Posted November 9, 2006 Author Posted November 9, 2006 you know what guys..I thought there was no end when reeling him in..my arm was so tired of reeling and the guys we're asking me if I needed help I said no thanks I waited three weeks to catch a carp and I wanted to do it by myself.but they got him in the net and brought him to the gazebo floor.we didn't have no scale but we plan on having one for next season since we're new at bass and carp fishing..but we knew to buy a net for these big carps. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 9, 2006 Super User Posted November 9, 2006 but we knew to buy a net for these big carps. definately a good idea. When I fish for carp, I have to walk them down the bank to some place where I can get close to the water and then I gotta try to grab them with one hand while I hold the rod up with the other. When you get those bigger carp, it's really hard to wrap your hand around them so I almost always end up just grabbing the pliers and releasing them without getting them out of the water. I actually think my dad has a net, I might have to steal it... Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Perhaps the hook had been deeper or near a gill and when the hook was set, it tore from there and lodged in the mouth. Hmmm,... Was this fsh released? If so, swim away fine? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Here is one I caught awhile back. Its not that big compared to some of the monsters around Quote
Tom Bass Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 My Dad really liked to fish for carp just for the fight. He used to make peanut butter doughball. Carp love it. I have caught carp upwards of 3' long on that stuff. I will have to see if my brother remembers the recipe as I haven't made that doughball in over 20 years. If I remember correctly you take 1 cup of corn flakes, 1 cup of cornmeal, a little milk or water, a couple tablespoons of peanut butter, a dash of vanilla or sweet anise oil and mix it all up into a dough. You then take the dough, form it into a ball and wrap it in a bandana and boil it until it's very firm. Let it cool and take it fishing. If you have the consistency right it will stay on a trble hook during a hard cast. Oh yeah, I'm glad everything is okay now. Quote
