I am to the point in remodeling my house where I need to put a work bench in the basement.  I need help in things to put into my work bench for making fishing lures/reel cleaning and reloading rifle/shotgun.

Thanks

Gman,

I build rods, tie flys, sharpen knives, breed elephants ;), etc.. I discovered accidently, that you can get a document organizer from Walmart or Costco, you know, it's like a rack with letter size slots. You can put Plano 3700 boxes in the slots for small parts and it is great for keeping small stuff, nuts, bolts, bullet dies, lure parts, etc.. It is very inexpensive and works like a charm. Hope this helps.

One thing in common in all the benches I have ever had... they all seem too small after you have had them a while.  ...lol

Ronnie's suggestion was great, I will also have to employ that one!

That is a great idea,  you know most great inventions were found by accident or trying to develop something else.

Keep the ideas coming.

Do you guys have any pics of the your benches?

Tips for building your own work bench...

1)  Make sure it is tall enough... I built mine about 42 in. tall, since I am over 6 ft.... I dont have to slouch when I work, keeps the back and shoulder fatigue away...

2)  Build it strong enough to park a car on.... especially if you plan on using it as a reloading bench...  I built mine out of 2x6s and the top is a chunk of laminate from a constructions site that is 2 in. thick, that I lagged down to the frame.   I have  a vise attached, and I have used a 6 ft. cheater bar to break something loose, in the vise.. the bench never moved.

3)  Make it bigger than you think you will need....  I figured I needed a 5 ft. bench.. I made it 7 foot long and 40 in. deep.  I have used every inch of it.

Or if you have money to burn,, ,Uline has a wonderful 8 ft. work bench with holes for electical outlets,, starts at about 350.00.  You can get a laminate, wood or steel top for it... weighs in at 300 lbs.

I got some measurments

Length will be 10'6 long and height can go up to 7'. This bench will be gianormous ;D

Workbenches are like gun safes... they can't be too big.  You WILL fill them up.  ...lol

Maybe you could use some fluorescent lights above your bench i've never seen anyone tie jigs in the dark  ;D   ;D  ;D

Guess you have never seen my jigs then!   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well,  I got the bench framed up.  I had to go with 10 ft not 10.6 because of room.

The bench is 10 ft long, 40" high(I'm tall), 34" wide.   The thing is sturdy too.  I was walking on the frame when I fixed a window by it. I dont think I have to worry about breaking the bench. :o

Once its all completed I will post up some pics in the tackle making section since that will be part of the bench in design.
