Jall65 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 On one of my previous threads I had to vent about me and my back problems... Well today I just gotten back from an appointment with the surgeon and the News was what I thought it would be.. he recommended surgery on my neck with a fusion. His exact comment("Ive done surgery on much smaller herniations and you definitely need one") I'm not sure when I want to schedule it as there is still some fishing to be done Down here in Alabama. I guess the sooner the better Got to do some serious decision makings. Quote
fishin_fool Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Had it done you could be up and fishing in 4 days just cant take no wild boat rides Quote
edbassmaster Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I have two heniated disks in my lower back and one in my neck ( i had an mri )...doctors at Jefferson in Philly recommended against surgery and suggested I do physical therapy 3 days a week. Well thats real expensive even with insurance so I decided to join a gym and weight train. This was two years ago...I havent had an episode since and I feel like I never had a back problem. I focus a lot on dead lifts ( beleive it or not ) this strengthens the lower back as well as the legs...and squats. The key is the lower back and the legs. You have to continue this for life obviously, but its worth it. If you need any advice let me know, I train with my close friend who is a professional power lifter and personal trainer. If you do elect to get the surgery, I hope everything works out well. Oh yeah, there are several neck exercises you can do at home or in the gym!! Quote
Jall65 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 edbassmaster, I have deteriating disc disease..I have already had four surgeries on my lower back and with my condition my disc wont get better they will just get worse. The surgeon is trying to stabilize my back as much as possible and as soon as possible. I hope your right fishing_fool, My surgeon said that the neck surgery was nothing compared what I had done on my back in June. I just don't like the thought of going through with it again.. just cant take no wild boat rides I thought that was the only way ;D Quote

Super User flechero Posted November 3, 2006 Super User Posted November 3, 2006 not sure when I want to schedule it as there is still some fishing to be done Down here in Alabama From the sounds of your condition, I don't think I'd be worrying about a little last minute fishing this season... Best of luck!! Quote
