tipptruck1 Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Well for aobut the past week thats all thats been on tv. I watch them becasue they so dumb. Whats scary about about a guy wearing a hockey mask and carrying a knife. I stoped being scared of horror movies at like 10 years old. What do you guys think of horror movies? And if you like them whats your favorite series or movie? Quote
fishbear Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I laugh through most horror films... makes people around me mad.... They are so easy to predict.. 5 min. into Sixth Sense, in a theater mind you,, I said loud enough to almost everyone to hear,, "Bruce Willis is Dead". Almost got run out over that one... However, 1 film scarred the you know what out of me.... the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre....... still gives me the willies when I watch it.... Quote
BASS fisherman Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I like some horror movies. I like the ones that are original, or the ones that don't rip off of other movies. An example would be "13 ghosts". I don't like horror movies that are corny like "Child's play", where you have a little doll chasing you around. I always wonder why the people being terrorized don't turn around and kick the stupid doll's head off, or pull it's arms out. All the "Scream" movies are really horrible. Basically I like most slasher type films, and just about any movie with ghosts. Another couple movies that scared the crap out of me: Gremlins- I was 4 when I saw the movie for the first time, and had bad dreams for years. I cant remember the name, but it had a scarecrow that came alive every 25 years or so, and would kill people then after 24 hours of something, it'd go back into it's "sleep". Very corny, but I had a few bad dreams after watching that, and then going to sleep. Quote
fishbear Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 13 ghosts was a good one.. so was See No Evil..... My wife loves the Saw movies,,,, they are intense,,but not scary. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 29, 2006 Super User Posted October 29, 2006 Jaws. Best horror movie ever made. And since I used to fish in saltwater where you can't see what sees you it scared the begezzies out of me. And me and my cousins used to go swimming in the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi Sound when we wre out there fishing and it got hot so we jumped out of the skiff and into the water. I won't do that anymore. Quote
The Unabasser Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Agreed Sam I was 12 yrs old when Jaws came out and my older brother and I went to the theatre to see it. Scared the livin outta me. I was nowhere near saltwater and I wouldn't even go swimming in the lake for a long time. Also I was watchin Blair Witch a few yrs back by myself and at a real freaky quiet point in the movie the background on my 150 gal fish tank let go on the one end...I almost came unglued...lol Quote
senko_77 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Texas Chainsaw Massacre is IMO the scariest movie out there. I know everyone is gonna laugh but the other movie that scares me is Halloween with Michael Myers. Its the mask. I really got scared one time when I was with one of my best freinds and we were there alone and we were watching it and if as on que Michael kniffed somebody and the lights went out for about 10 seconds. I can honestly say that is the most scared I have ever been and it made me afraid of all the Halloween movies. Quote
Murray Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 the exorcist scares the shhh out of me...another movie that gets me a little loopy is 'signs' Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 30, 2006 Super User Posted October 30, 2006 Fishbear stated: 5 min. into Sixth Sense, in a theater mind you,, I said loud enough to almost everyone to hear,, "Bruce Willis is Dead". Most people didn't pick up on that so quickly, fishbear. That's why it is considered one of the best "horror" movies by many. I like horror movies that are done in a fairly intelligent way. Usually, this requires some kind of twist at the end that shows some intelligent thinking was used in the movies' creation. Of course when I was very young I liked a lot of horror movies but things change as you get older. Some of my favorites are: Sixth Sense, The Others, Signs (which actually is about faith but uses horror as its vehicle), and the original Saw. Like others have stated, when I first saw Jaws at age 13, I was scared senseless, because nothing had ever been done like that before. The Exorcist was the same way. I watch these movies now and they do nothing for me, but at their release, they were some of the best. Quote
BassKing813 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 A Nightmare on Elm Street really scares the crap out of me. I won't watch it before I go to bed. The other movie that really scares me is "It," the movie based on Stephen King's novel (even scarier). Somehow a clown with razor sharp teeth that eats kids is very scary. Quote
fishbear Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I read "It" before the movie came out, so I was prepared,, and I was a Stephen King Junkie for years... That movie could have been a lot better, I do not think "John Boy Walton" did the movie any favors. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The scariest movies to me are the Ya-Ya sisterhood, Fried Green Tomatoes and Thelma and Louise OH, wait a minute, horror movies, not movies that are a horror for me. The scariest would have to be without a doubt The Exorcist saw that movie once and only once - scared the beejeebies outta me. The devil/possession stuff is just TOO over the top for me. As a Christian, I know that greater is he that is in [me] than he that is in the world, but, that kind of stuff is just a little too much. All time favorite horror flicks, in rough order, would have to be John Carpenter's Vampires with James Wood and Daniel Baldwin that movie totally rocks IMHO. Yes, I am one of the few that like the original Dusk til Dawn movie. I liked the last "Dawn of the Dead", Shining, Blade, The Dark Half, Carrie, Christine (yes, I am a Stephen King fan), Rosemary's Baby, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (both versions 70's and remake) along with Part 2. The Omens, and I use to love the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Not sure if it falls under horror, think they might be more thriller, but because others have mentioned I would also include Jaws, Aliens, Running Man, The Mummy series, Silence of the Lambs, Blade Runner and Misery. Caught a good one over the weekend that some might like called Wolf Creek. Definitely recommend. It is touted as the Australian equivalent of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Takes a while to get going lot of leading story line, some of it a little cheesy, but once it gets going is a pretty wild ride. Thought it had a really good story line and was really done well. The villain has a really good villain laugh. Not a lot of special effects and CGI, if any, to make the movie, just good story tellin'. IMHO, a good horror movie has to be somewhat believable, Wolf Creek does that. Also, caught the Hills have eyes over the weekend as well. Was alright, pretty predictable. Please note there may be some spoiler below if you are going to watch this movie. Very predictable - I guessed at the beginning who would survive and missed by one; knew that a baby parent had to survive but I guessed the wrong one. It was right on the verge of being totally lame, but, had some pretty good moments and a few good twists. I never totally understood the concept of why being a nuclear mutant would make one a cannibal. Also, the premise that a large mutant population lives totally unknown in the desert while all the cars from the missing people are out in plain view is a pretty far stretch for the imagination. From the ending appears there will be a part II, totally expect that to be lame and have no intention of watching. IMHO, with a little more thought and development, especially with the gas station attendant, this could have been a really good movie, but, it kinda reminded me of the toxic avenger movies back in 80's. Bream Master Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The exorcist and amittyville horrer films are pretty creepy. For some reason, those films that were "inspired" by "true events" just seem to have a creepiness to them. Quote
tallydude Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I can't believe no one has brought up the Evil Dead series yet. For low budget horror campiness, they cannot be beaten. Army of Darkness is one of the most quotable movies ever. Quote
