Anyone ever notice this? I seem to find that if a topic is semi interesting then approx 10% of the people that VIEW the topic will actually post about it... I have found this to be true on most ALL boards I frequent...  NOW if a topic is REAL interesting than you might break the 20% mark but that is VERY seldom.. and then there are the <10% threads... those hurt... :) someone takes the time to post and no one takes the time to reply.. sometimes its understandable.. sometimes I wonder why it isn't part of the 10% rule

YES I have too much time on my hands at work today!!!

Maybe I'm missing something, but 10% threads are VERY rare around here. There aren't but a handful that get more than 100 responses. You're talking 670 to meet that criteria. The only currently running, first page thread in any of the sections that meet that breaking point right now is the Muddy's baseball topic.

ok what I mean is before a thread runs its normal course... there will be about  1 response for every 10 views... for instance... you my well respected friend  responded on the 10th view... hence validating my 10% rule hahahaha

Some of us look at a thread more than once.  This is my second time looking at this thread which skews your results, but I do get the gist of what you're saying and I agree.  Many times if I see a post that hasn't received a response in a couple of days, I'll try to make a decent post to help out.  A lot of times I'll look at a thread and others have already stated the same viewpoint as I, so I can't see cluttering it up by repeating the same information.  But, sometimes, I'll respond anyway.

I look at threads multiple times usually.  I read alot of them atleast once and if I have anything intelligent or not to add I will.   ::)

Some threads I have no clue on the answer so I just have to let them go.  Others I will respond and I will check on them just in case someone asks me a question about my answer.

Interesting statistical food for thought.

I do alot more reading than posting. Most folks here have alot more experience than I so I'm doing alot more learning than teaching. I post when I think I have something to add,  share, or be of some kind of support. Sometimes we all post when there is a thread that strikes our fancy and is just meant for fun. I suspect there are a few more learners like me out there who do more reading than posting. I do read alot of stuff more than once as I can be a slow learner  :D

That having been said I'll take this opportunity to thank all those who share their knowledge and experience with those of us who benefit so richly from it.

Ditto what riskkid said, with the added statement that I am some what of a smart @$$ so I may post more than I probably should, without sharing much insight.

I asked LBH about this very topic.  I had 12 replies out of 200 views on an old topic.  He said that is about average.  I also asked if the guests viewing of a question will register as a view.  It does not.

See? I am not the only one that thought about this!!! I guess I am not totally insane!

Well this is my fourth or fifth time reading this. I will read post many times to see if any one forgot some thing the person needs to know. I will not also post if some one has said what I would have said.

OK, I think I understand what SFC is saying and he is right. 10% rule is about right. He is talking about when you are in a forum and for each topic it says views and replies. If you take 10% of the number of views, that is about how many replies a somewhat interesting topic will have. I think RW is thinking 10% of all current members. According to SFC, this thread has 121 views and 13 replies (before i replied). 10% of 121 is 12 so this thread would be somewhat interesting because there were 13 replies. An easy way to do it is move the decimal in the views collum over one to the left. That gives you about how many replies a somewhat interesting topic would have. Besides thinking like SFC, I also have a lot of free time on my hands right now.

YES that is EXACTLY what I am trying to say... thanks for giving the explaination a differet spin and making it a bit easier to understand :)

I am guilty as charged with reading more than replying.  and riskkid said it best, I'm learning more than I'm teaching, so usually I will watch threads and view them multiple times to see what kinds of answers it is getting.

Thanks fer Lernin' me!

Don't be so shy.

Jump on in their pardner.  I suspect you have more to contribute than you think.

Some of the most interesting threads have less to do with knowledge and more about opinion.

Personally, I think your posts are excellent.  Your a bright guy and always have something of value to say.  The worst that can happen is that someone will

a little fun at ya.  so what.  Just give it back to em (in a civilized way of course) and it's all good.

I'm looking forward to meeting you at Lake Fork
