paparock Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I will hold you and your family in my prayers Gameover for God to turn this situation around into a positive by providing you with an even better job at much higher pay. I don't know your skills but if you are willing to relocate check out all the major oil company sites online. Skilled labor like wielder, machinists, etc. is always in demand and the pay and benefits cannot be beat. What ever is your choice or situation, may God bless you and your family more abundantly than you can imagine! P.S. Give us some idea of your skills so if we hear of any openings we can let you know. Dobi Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 it sounds like you might be in the car building industry... I know Kia is building a plant just north of here in LaGrange, GA, (aka Westpoint fishing!!) I know they're hiring 4000+ people. worth looking into. Quote
Super User Marty Posted October 23, 2006 Super User Posted October 23, 2006 I'm sorry about your misfortune and hope something good happens quickly. I have no advice except to hang in there, stay positive and make finding your next job your current fulltime job. Good luck. Quote
northgabassfisher Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 man I was going through the same thang about two months ago, but I made it through and I found a better paying job, trust me what gose down must go up Quote
fishbear Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Gameover, I have been in your shoes. I almost lost everything, I finally went to work for a temp service, until I could actually find a good job... which I did about 2 months later.... Our prayers and well wishes go out to you my friend. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 This is a great time of year to get your foot in the door at UPS. Go HERE for job opportunities. Somthing to keep in mind is that even with the part-time jobs, your family is covered under your full bennies. Yup, even at part time. Many of these 4 hr shofts also allow you to work elsewhere but provide a solid base and bennies for now. Good luck! Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 HANG IN THERE ! Im not trying to minimize what u r going through, but there is a lot of truth that When one door closes God always opens another one You r in my prayers Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Posted October 24, 2006 I was in your shoes just a couple months ago. I wound up with a better job both in enviroment and pay. Everytime a door closes another opens. Quote
tbird Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I feel for you my friend , I was layed off 2 months ago and also have a family. I have not been unemployed in 20+ years and did not have a clue as to how to go about a new job search let alone having an updated resume . My friends kept telling me to not worry something better would come along and that every thing happens for a divine reason. After 6 agonizing weeks low and behold I had 2 job offers. I am happier now than before with my new job. The main thing to do as hard as it sounds is to keep your spirits up and keep on trying. God Bless ,Tony Quote
RiskKid. Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Thoughts and prayers are with you Gameover. Might want to check options in the Nashville area if you are in the auto industry. Lots of folks from Michigan moved here with Saturn. We also have Nissan, Bridgestone, Ford has had a glass plant here for years. All that has brought alot of related industry. Economy is on the upswing, no income tax, great place to raise kids. Added bonus.....good fishing with a longer season and for you Michigan folks we have the NHL PM me if this is an option or if you have any interest, I'll be glad to help in any way I can Quote
GAMEOVER Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 Yeah we were thinkin about relocating to either Texas or Tennessee, my woman loves both places. If we were to locate to either place does anyone think they could get me in somewhere? It would have to be for sure because we really would just pick up and leave. Thanks for all the replys. Quote
Lady Bass Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 It's alright to vent.sometimes you have to let it all out and then your ok for a little while.we all have been through that one time or another.I know for a fact we had really tough times this year..actuallly I can't wait until this year is over.we lost two love ones in the family and can't sale two properties.plus many other things that went on.all I can say is take one day at a time and things will look brighter in no time.be strong and keep a good postive attitude and you'll be alright.take care. Super User cart7t Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Posted October 24, 2006 What are your job skills and work experience? Without knowing that it would be pretty tough for someone here to be able to hook you up with something. BTW, when you get that next job and get settled in you may want to investigate furthering your job skills. Many corporations offer paid tuition for additional schooling. Quote
GAMEOVER Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 Its alright guys I shouldnt have asked that on here its my problem, as far as skills etc, on paper I only have a GED. I had to drop college and get a job to support my familly. Ive built computers before, ran a gas station as a manager for weeks at a time unsupervised, and can learn anything on my own with little explanation and fast, so a fast learner/self motivated/ leadership skils. Im going out there now but its cold and I aint talking about the weather. Quote
Zel Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 It sounds like your job was eliminated due to foreign trade. Please look into governmental assistance about learning a new profession or trade. I think the government might pay for it while you collect unemployment compensation. Some time ago my wife lost her job because of foreign trade, was able to collect unemployment benefits, had her education (to learn a new profession) paid by the government, and became a Certified Network Engineer in the computer science field in less than a year. Ask your former employer about it, the local job center and look here: http://www.doleta.gov/tradeact/ Good luck. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Posted October 24, 2006 Gameover, you stated you were in college and quit to support your family. Now you've lost your job. This is the perfect time to be back in school if you still want it. I was married with one kid when I finished my last two years of a four year program. At the time, my job barely paid the bills. I quit my job to go back to college. I filed a form for change of circumstances to apply for financial aid. When you do this, college financial services will go by your current income, not the income you made the previous year. I obtained a full Pell grant and student loans for college. I also picked up another job while I was in school and worked full time. Yes, I was busy and tired but if you want it bad enough you'll do just fine. Once I graduated, I had to pay back the loans but this wasn't a problem because I had obtained a good job. At this time, I believe your loan payments are deferred for six months after you get out of college, so that you can find a job before the payments start coming due. Quote
GAMEOVER Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 Well to be completely honest, school is not for me.. it never was. I have an entrepreneur mind and heart but I lack the funds to venture into anything for the time being and for quite some time. School is great and all and I recommend it for everyone even if you already have a job you should take classes here and there to forever be learning, knowledge is power. I would really like to break through into the fishing industry. That is where my hearts at, I really believe I could make it to a pro angler level but that is the wrong dream for me. Pro fishing would take the fun and love out of the sport for me because it would become a job. What I mean is working for a bait company or in some tackle shop or anything that has to do with fishing. Its my passion and something I could do working non stop. But back to school, it just isnt for me.. I cant sit in a classroom for hours on end. I learn differently and I dont mean im special ed or anything like that but I learn alot and learn it better when I learn it all by myself. Even employers saw that in me, no matter what job I ever had id always rise in position faster then others without even asking for it. Quote
Chug Bug Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 You know I am not a fan of your previous postings. However, I would not wish anyone to be in your situation and I hope all comes out o.k. Please think before you make any rash decisions. I don't think moving "sight unseen" to another state with your family is a good idea, unless you have SOLID pre-existing jobs and housing waiting for you. Also, do you think working in a bait and tackle shop is the route to go with a wife and kid? Go to snag a job .com enter your abilities and qualifications. It's free and potential employers contact YOU. You don't have to keep checking back. You are 23 or something right? You need to do some serious thinking and planning for the future. Take these guy's advice. Advance your education=advance your earning power. Working in a tackle shop as a profession will not cut it. Quote
