Well my wife and I decided we deffinatly will be leaving Michigan, I love Detroit and all to death as well as the Great Lakes but its time to move on. My wife and I narrowed it down to three states based on current economy, economy plans in the works, schooling for our son, and weather. The three states we will deffinatly be decideing on is Arizona, Tennessee, and Texas. All have excellent fishing to lol, but thats not a main reason why were moving to one of those states (im siked about all three though). Can any of you guys who know these states or possibly live in each one shed some light and information on them? Maybe some of you live there.. vacationed there.. etc. Listing the Good and the Bad of each state from expierence would help us out a lot in our decision, thanks for any and all info.

Gameover,

I'd have to go with one of the 'T's... Tennessee or Texas. I live in western Virginia, about an hour from the TN border, so I've done lots of traveling in TN. Great fishing there, great scenery and great people. You have 4 distinct seasons and the Great Smoky Mountains in the east, if you care for mountains.

The company that I work for is located in TX, so I've done some traveling there and have lots of friends there. Again, great fishing and great people. The 'Hill Country' is beautiful and you also have the ocean (Gulf of Mexico) nearby if you prefer that.

I'll always have a place in VA, but when retirement beckons, I'll either have a 2nd home in Florida or Texas... most likely in TX.

Regards,

Hillbilly

Texas is continuing to grow as a population and economy.

Educational system is in trouble, but smaller towns are better than most major metro areas.

No State Tax.

Lots of illegals.

Lots of Community and State colleges.

Fresh and Salt water angling opportunities.

Lots of theme parks, state parks, pro sports organizations, and Nascar.

Lots of historical sites.

Gas prices are usually lower than most states.

Taxes depends of what County you reside in.

We have Lake Fork, Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Amistad, Falcon, and too many others that are great bass lakes.   Lots of Rivers.

Whitney and Merideth are our top small mouth waters.

Deer hunting, migratory birds are plentiful.

Lots of different cultures and resturants to choose from.

Metro area traffic bites, but most states do also.

Weather changes all the time, spring brings the wild flowers out along the roads for some of the most scenic pictures to be seen.

The Tx Panhandle, Amarillo, gets the majority of snow and ice in Tx.    The rest of the state gets cold, but rarely has snow and ice.    If it does, its usually gone within days.       We have four seasons that can occur at any time.

One thing that changes in Tx fast is the weather, and alot of that is due to the Gulf.

The coast is very humid in the summer.

Any specifics, just ask.

Matt.

Thats a lot of great info Matt, thanks for it. I have one question about Texas's weather is it Humid like here in Michigan when its hot or is it dry heat like in Arizona? Traffic im not worried about, im from Detroit and we have way too much. Only place ive been to thats had more is NYC. What cities do you recommend in Texas? I cant afford no upperclass neighborhood but I dont want to ever see another slum like Detroit again, now I know there everywhere in every state but id like to be in the suburbs that arent too high price. Being close to (but not on water properties expensive anywhere) bodies of water is a major plus for me, just dont tell my wife ;).. Id love Amistad!

Anyone have anything on Tennessee or Arizona?

Gameover,

I live in Nashville. It is a great town with a booming economy. No state income tax. Schools can be good and bad, busing situation complicates things so surrounding counties are better for schools. TN is probably much like TX as far as everyday living. Our seasons are probably a bit more distinct although we can't handle the snow when it does come. There are alot of Michigan transplants here due to the Saturn plant. There is SEC college football (UT in Knoxville and Vanderbilt in Nashville), the NFL, NHL and AAA baseball (farm team for the Brewers). The medical community is excellent with Vanderbilt's Hospital and we are headquaters for Hospital Corp of America so they have their flagship hospitals here.

Alot of great fishing with the corp of engineers and TVA dam's creating numerous resevoirs on the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers. Music community is outstanding and is not only country.

PM if any specific questions....here is links to the local newspaper, one of the local TV stations and the city's website

I have lived in Nashville and Jackson, TN and Austin and The Woodlands, TX. A lot depends on where you live in these citys. Do you plan on renting or buying?, and how much can you afford?. The Woodlands, TX has great schools; but drive 30 or 40 minutes south and the schools and crime are a lot worse. Austin is less humid than the Houston area, but Nashville has the best weather of the three IMO. Maybe you could provide some specific citys.

I've never been to Texas, but I went on a roadtrip to New Orleans this year from Northern Virginia, and I can tell you that I thought Tennessee seemed like a fantastic place to live. We stopped in Chattanooga and I was blown away by how nice the city is. I also saw a lot of signs for lakes as we drove through the countryside. The only thing I didn't like about Tennessee as I drove through was that there are long stretches of highway that looked like they were completely or almost completely uninhabited so it looked like nobody was around and it got quite boring to drive through there

My wife and I have been discussing for a while about moving, she says Cali I say Texas.

If I had to move to the US I would move to Texas, in a triangle area somewhere in between San Antonio-Laredo-Brownsville

Reasons:

1.- I 'm bilingual ( a valuable comodity );

2.- If I want to practice I can open my clinic in Mexico, live in a border town and cross the river twice a day, if I don 't want to practice I can work or open a business, perhaps a tackle shop all I need to do is to change the status of my account with AR&G from foreign to domestic;

3.- why I say in the border ? well the climate is what I 'm used to ( HOT ! ), from San Antonio to the border you are no longer in TORNADO ALLEY, unless you choose to be like let 's say along the coast you are not in HURRICANE LANDING STRIP.

4.- You 've got some of the best Texas lakes and Mexico 's best lakes and some of the best sea fishing within a 2 hour drive radius.

5.- those little texan border towns have everything you need in terms of shops and still you live in a small town with all it 's benefits,

6.- being border towns there 's a lot of money around.

7.- Real estate is very cheap.

8.- Low Taxes
