tackle price increases

Lets take my favorate finesse jig the eakins jig in 5/16.  At bass pro shops the price was $5.29 in 2006 and has increased to $7.29 in 2007.  This happens to other baits aswell, just not the eakins jigs.  When does there became a limit?

Lucky Craft, GYCB, and now Eakins Jigs are expensive but the bottom line is they all catch fish.  I won't stop fishing any of them.  Just wondering if there is a limit but I guess not if people keep buying them.

I'm reminded when the chatterbait demand was exceeding production by months.  They were going on Ebay for 15-25 apiece.

I'll bet in a couple of years you'll start seeing them in bargain bins.

we use to fish spinnerbaits all the time and that was it.  We caught alot of pike and they would trash the cheap spinnerbaits.  Then the terminators came out, at $7.00 a peice and you bought them because they lasted forever.  Now I can't buy a crankbait of anything less that $5 and you cant just buy 1.  What if thats your hot bait and you lose it?!?!  Then you have different colors.... someone is making some serious money.

You can make a jig like the Eakins yourself for less than $1 each. They were my favorite jig but after not being able to find them especially in a useful color I started making my own. If you do not want to start pouring I am sure someone on here can sell you the 5/16oz heads then all you need are skirt tabs, collars and a collar tool (about $5). If you need help just PM me.

I was at Gander Mountain recently in Minnesota and noticed the Yamamoto Senkos were selling for $6.99.  Now that is a joke.  I believe last year they were $5.49 or $5.99.  I believe they pack 8 senkos, that's almost $1 per senko.  Good thing I don't purchase those things anymore.

to replace the senkos try strike king 3x zeros. work just as well or better and work AWESOME rigged wacky style.

Perhaps Mr. Y  has pushed the envelope on his Senko prices a little too far.  There are an awful lot of good substitutes available now.  On the other hand, it was his creation and he has the right to price it anyway he wants.

I made a trip to a BPS store in November and they were marking everything up then.  For instance, I bought a Johnny Morris Rod for $119 but the if I didn't have my current catalog with me the price had gone up to $159.  Stuff like this makes me want to wait for sales, stock up and not return for quite some time.

The high prices just make me want to buy from the custom makers anymore.  I can go out and buy almost three jigs for the price of that one eakin jig.  Everything seems to be jumping up in price these days.

Please remember that all fishing  tackle is taxed from 3% to 10% excise tax, and if it is from out of the country, then it is another 9%. So there is tax before it gets to you. Now that the price of petroleum products is going up, there is even more reason to increase the price. So, the tackle company needs to make money, but so does the manufactures rep (6-10%), and then the ma and paw tackle shop needs at least 35% to 40% to keep the lights on......So that is a lot of the reason the costs are so high.......

I hate using this as an excuse.  petroleum was up for maybe a year and it's back down to what it was about 3 years ago.  Here in Minnesota, it finally got under $2 per gallon again.  Our local garbage hauler installed a $1.50 gas surcharge when diesel prices were outrageous, now that the prices came back down, do you think they will relax that surchage.  Most likely not.  Petroleum prices are just a good reason for companies to screw everyone over. Just my opinion.

I haven't noticed prices going up at all, in fact, most prices are going down. As far as I know, Shimano prices have been constant for at least six years; G.Loomis longer than that. Lucky Craft "retail" prices are down at least $2, but I buy them ALL THE TIME on sale for an average price of around $10.

I don't know, if you are patient, fishing equipment is ALWAYS on sale.

Fishing tackle no doubt is expensive.  But others have already stated the mark ups and oh ya don't forget all that sponsorship money has to come from somewhere.
