20psi Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Just recently moved up from Vegas to the Reno area. Right now living about 200 feet from Sparks Marina, but try as I might I havent hooked into any bass quite yet. I know its winter and they are probably deep, but I havent heard of many fishing the Marina for bass anyway so not sure if there is even any in there. Supposed to be some spot plants, but who knows. I dont have a boat so shore fishing is all I can do. Float tube or pontoon is on my radar, just dont have the cash at the moment. I heard about Mason Valley WMR and Lahontan so far. Not sure if Lahontan would be any good for shore fishing, and Mason is closed till February. I really just want to find something close to the reno area where I can get my fix! I just dont have the resources to travel to far to catch fish. I dont mind if they are small, just something would be nice! Driving to the delta and clear lake is just too far. I know there is a couple clubs here but it sounds like thats all they do is drive to Cali to fish. I can make a couple trips a year probably, but really just looking for a small pond or res in the reno area to fish. Does anyone have any tips at all???? Im dying here, I havent hooked into a bass in months and its killin me! If anyone can help I would be in a ton of debt to you! A fishing buddy would be great too, Im all over that. I travel for work, but when Im in town I can pretty much fish any day all day lol. Im all catch and release as well, so I wont kill your spot I promise! Quote
20psi Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Forgot to mention I dont mind sneaking around golf courses in the least either, that was my spot in Vegas lol. Please someone help me out! Im so hooked my next purchase is a Gloomis BSR852 GLX, but I need a place to use it!!! Quote
Bassbilly Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Sounds like you're in the same boat as me! I just moved to Reno from Chicago about 4 months ago. I was in a bass club out there and fished multiple times a week. I haven't wet my line once since I moved out here...and I'm going nuts! Here is what I have learned since I've been here. Sparks Marina does have spots that they stocked a couple years ago, but I haven't heard of many being caught. There are a couple of clubs in town, but you're right that they fish mainly in California. I have heard that there are bass in some of the golf course ponds, but I don't know which ones. As for shoreline fishing (which is what I'm looking for also) it looks like the best bet is the Mason Valley ponds and the Fort Churchill cooling ponds. Little bit of a drive, but I've heard the bass don't get a lot of pressure (mostly trout fisherman). With the cooling ponds, the bass bite is good right from the beginning of the season (second Saturday in February I think). If you're looking for somebody to head out with let me know. I'm thinking I'll hit up the cooling ponds next month. Drew Quote
20psi Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Hey Drew, thanks for the reply man I thought I was the only one here haha. Ya sounds like pretty much all I have found, the cooling pond and Mason Valley WMR are going to be our best bet. I did find a small lake over off of south meadows where I caught some 6 inch largemouth when I was up here in September before it got cold, but now that lake is iced over. I live on the marina so I'll definitely be trying that out. From what I heard the rocky cliffs on the east side are the best bet, but again its too cold. I DEFINITELY plan on hitting up the cooling pond as soon as it opens. Hopefully I wont be out of town that saturday, since I travel for work. Im down to meet up and see if we can pool resources too, or even a fishing partner for mason would rock. I'll PM ya my number. Also the great basin bassers meet at Sportsmans this coming Wednesday at I think 7pm. I'll be stuck up in Idaho for work or I was going to roll down there. They have some spots for non boater members I heard, so might be worth a shot to check out. May be able to get some other secret spots out of the club guys hehe. They are the ones that planted the spots in the Marina with NDOW's permission, so could be good. If you go let me know what you find out hehe. Quote

IDbasser Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Hey 20psi, sorry I can't help with your current location, but since you are from Vegas, I need some info. I am going down to Lake Mead the first week of March to fish, any info to help me out? Quote
20psi Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 For an Idaho boy, anything hehe. I went up there and hunted the snake in Twin Falls with my ex roommate one xmas. Absolutely loved it up there, which is what prompted my move to Reno hehe. My company wouldnt let me go all the way to Idaho, not enough work up there haha. We called in some nice ducks late season, was awesome. Responded to your other thread, hope that helps a bit. FISHBBZ, sent you a pm! Quote
Sin_City702 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Lake Mead....just come back to Vegas... Desert Shores was producing a great fish until we got kicked out by some "private security" ...What golf course did you go to? Also have a friend over on "The Lakes." We were catching 3-5 pounders all day! Quote
20psi Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 Desert shores was good, but my secret was lake las Vegas. They have security too so it's kind of tricky. You can ask for a one day license at the marina, just tell them you are staying at the hotel there and make up a room number Quote
