Stan Wright Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Peacock bass like warm water and sunshine... spring rains seem to be over and summer is here. As the water temperature reached 80 degrees the peacock bass became more aggressive... We're starting to see more fish in the 3 to 5 pound range. It was fun catching 40 to 50 of the little (1 pounders) peacocks and largemouth... great fun on ultra-light spinning rods or a 4wt fly rod.... but I'm ready for something larger. LOL Even the Red Devils action is picking up. Quote
wendellbyron Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Hey Stan, good to see you on this forum! I have been out with Chris 3 times now on beautiful Lake Wilson and the peacock have cooperated each time. Can't wait to get back and do it again. Let me know when you or Chris are coming out to the California Delta area and I will be happy to take you out for bass or striper, whichever is in at the time. wendell Quote
MrBadGuy Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 do you know are on big island some good bass ponds and lakes? Quote
Revival Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Man i grew up fishing for Tucunares on Kauai. Now most of the reservoirs are private and the locals are not allowed to fish there anymore which is not cool. I would rather fish for Tucunares than any freshwater fish. Those fish are beasts and they never give up and fight till they are released. Quote
MrBadGuy Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 @Rivival: Are tucunares and peacock bass the same?My destination is kauai, but i found in the web that the most succesful peacockbass fishing are on ohaou! Where do you fish on the island? lg Oliver Quote

Where do you fish on the island? lg Oliver Yes they are the same thing. There are a lot of different strains of peacock bass but the one found in Hawaii is known as Cichla Ocellaris. I am not sure if people are allowed to access the places on Oahu but the places on Kauai are private now and the locals who grew up fishing there are no longer allowed to even be in the area. Now places are surround by barbed wire and multiple gates. I know in the 90's, by far Kauai had the best fishing for Tucunares. Kauai has so many hidden ponds/reservoirs that until this day i dont know them all. Kauai holds the state record for Tucunare (9.4lbs), largemouth (9.4) and smallmouth (i cant remember). I would bet that the new state record in still in one of the locations on Kauai. Kauai also has the largest Reservoir in the state (Waita). Quote
MrBadGuy Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 i found some bass lakes on kauai: the alexander reservoir, halenanahu reservoir, papuaa res., wailua res. and waita res. have anybody some informations about this lakes??? lg Quote
