WCCT Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Hey all of you Oregon guys, I am trying to plan a trip for myself and a few buddies for this coming spring. I am thinking late April or early May. I have only had one opportunity to fish this lake, and that was mid April a couple of years ago. It was snowing, raining and pretty cold, but the fishing was pretty dang good. My question is when in your opinion should I make my trip. I know the fish were in prespawn with a very few moving up on their beds the last time I went down there. Just curious as to when traditionally would be a good time to head down there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Quote
rfrazier Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 The fish should be spawning by the second week in May... Definitely some quality fish to be caught around that time. Quote
WCCT Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 I was hoping to hear that. Thanks. I can't wait to get back down there! Quote
jacobhookem Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 The fishing in May should be good for larger bass. Colman arm can be very good but if the water is too clear then you dont usually catch fish there. I havent fished there much but if you can locate some sort of flat with a drop off then you most likely will find the spawning bass. Color/Baits= Black/Blue Jigs and Senkos. Natural colored(Browns and greens) Senkos and dropshot. Quote
WCCT Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 My tournament partner and I travelled down there a couple of years ago for an open tournament put on by Northwest Bass and had a blast. We didnt' have any problem catching fish, I was just kind of wondering what the water and weather that time of year is traditionally like. The day we were there, there was a huge cold front that covered the entire Pacific Northwest. It snowed that same day up here in Washington, so it was pretty messed up. Black and blue jigs were are bait of choice that day. Quote
BassChump Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I live not far from Tenmile and I fish that lake all the time during the spring and summer. It's a great lake but going in April might be a problem. The weather around here is fickle at best that time of year. If it were up to me, I'd wait a few weeks later if you could. The weather on the coast that time of year will be rain, highs in the low 50's with cold wind off the ocean. Water temps probably in the high 40's give or take a few degrees. I also fish a lot of small lakes in Florence and the water temps don't get into the 50's usually until late May or even June. It stays very cool here even in the summer. Don't let me stop you from fishing in April but just take into account that the weather can be cold, rainy and windy at that time of year although I must say, Tenmile is a great lake and no matter what time of year, you should be able to boat some nice fish. Good luck. Quote

Good luck. Hey BassChump, Like your boat. We've got a carbon copy except for our motor which is a 90 Evinrude. We like the trophy, does the job! Your not kidding about the weather. You can get hailed on in May for sure. Not fun and freezing! Makes cranking a real joy. Quote
