legendaryyaj Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hello, Im going to be flying in on the 17th and staying til the 22nd for a wedding and want to bass fish out there REALLY REALLY bad. I will be bringing two reels but no rod so I dont know how Im going to tackle that just yet. I will be flying into SFO and Hi's is just up the street so Im sure thats going to be my first stop for rod shopping and some local help. Im looking to throw plastics and lipless cranks. I'll probably buy a 7ft MH rod. What I want to know is, are there any spots around San Francisco that you fellas would recommend? I will be land locked as I know no one out there so I hope that can be taken into consideration. This is like a once in a lifetime deal for me almost as I am a slave to my job. Any help or input is appreciated. Oh, I wont limit myself to just bass fishing. I just want to fish but dont really want to stand on a pier but will if I have to. TIA, Vince Quote
badog Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Vince, if at all possible I would try and fish the delta. Hire a guide and do a half day or full day trip. Stripers should be out there in numbers. The Delta ia an amazing place and every angler should experience it once in their life!!! Or go shark fishing in the bay, you can fish off Berkley pier for shark and bat reys. Badog Quote
legendaryyaj Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 Badog, Thanks for the reply. I did look into the Delta but didnt feel that the price was worth it for the average bass. Doing it for the stripers might be a different story though as we dont have any here in Ohio. Yhanks again. Vince Quote
marktfd Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Check at Lake Chabot over near the Oakland foothills. It was planted with Florida strains and the lake record is in the 16lb class. I believe it is fishable with both rentable jon boats from the county park site, float tube and shore fishing. I would suggest the BIG swimbaits for this lake as it's planted with trout every year. legendaryyaj Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 Mark, I might just have to make a stop there at Lake Chabot. Thanks! More recommendations are welcome. Vince Quote
camman Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I'd also say the Delta... as long as you have a car and willing to drive maybe an hour and half or so you can fish it... send me a PM and I will tell you a spot you can fish from the shore for some largies and stripers Quote
Sfrazier Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I grew up fishing the Marin Reservoirs. I would fish alpine lake. Close to SF. Watermelon Candy Jackall Flick Shake (any size) on Jackall Head is like crack there for the bass Quote
legendaryyaj Posted October 24, 2009 Author Posted October 24, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up going to Clifton Court and managed 2 smallish stripers and 1 largemouth. Nothing of great size but better than nothing. Quote
Large Mouth or Nothing. Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 aww man i wish i joined this site earlier. i woulda joined you on the striper hunt. The delta is great to me, 32 inch stripers woot!! Lake Chabot is the worst lake in the NorCal area. I know... its one of my home lakes. Mostly a trout lake that doesn't produce. if you want barely legal largemouth you should've went to san pablo resevoir. my bro landed a nice post spawn 8lber. ate it that night =] my biggest was at clear lake, a nice 5-6lb. cant really tell cause i have no scale. but he cut it open and it had a huge shad, 2 crawlfish and it STILL tore my texas rigged senko in half! beastly. But yes, if anyone ever wants to go shore fishing in my area, i'm there! Quote
b.Lee Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Go to Coyote Reservoir in the South Bay, if I am not doing anything, which most of the time I am not since I am unemployed, I might be able to take you somewhere. Quote
