I'm sure many of you have heard about what it is going on involving the delta and the proposed dams and peripheral canal. In case you haven't please take some time and look at the problems recreational fisherman are being faced with.

Here is a link to a video that will explain what is going on.

I know it is late notice but there will be a rally involving recreational fishermen like yourselves as well as many other groups who dont support this new proposal. The rally is going to be at the California State Capitol's North Steps in Sacramento, CA at 11:00a.m. tomorrow. Please do whatever you can to support this cause to fight this problem if you value your delta.

Thank you for reading,

What the California government is going to do is they are going to divert all the snow melt water that usually flows into the delta and pump it to the central valley. They are gonna do this via a 100 car lane wide canal that flows from the top of the delta into the valley. This is gonna cause a mess of problem to the delta. First the delta's not gonna have any fresh water flowing in causing salt water to run all through the delta. So instead of fishing for bass you'll be fishing for flounder and leopard shark. Also with the lack of fresh water flow the delta will turn into a toxic dump. They are already starting this by building 2 dams one on the eastern side of franks tract and one in connection slough. They are covering up this scam by saying they are trying to help the delta smelt. They are also not telling anyone about this. The governor set up a delta committee which has full power to do what ever they want in regards to the delta. NO voting. To help show your support please contact your elected official and tell them how displeased you are. Also there is going to be a demonstration held on the 16th and 17th of august to show the media what is really going on. You can find more information about this demonstration on http://www.millionboatfloat.org/index.htm Please come and show your support to save the delta. We need everyone's help to show this corrupt government we mean business.

Heres another link that will take you to a page that you can show your support for the california delta and your opposition to the peripheral canal.

http://campaign.constantcontact.com/render?v=001YV3QsNmUiFOktxcjvupHToqQOUu_YBkD8j3nZXds2zBoWKdzpdUY0bItR-rf_knpINYUS-jXp7YaQIPpQEVmUlfNYN2F4Wk_JBljZW968Lu-2p8NTyCP_Q%3D%3D

Please show your support by signing the petition and sending a few letters to your senator and assembly memeber. It takes no more than 5 minutes and is a crucial step in saving the delta.

First off - be very careful about making such accusations and statements like that on this site.  I know you're upset about this, but keep things factual and straightforward please.

Along those lines, typically a public vote isn't required in environmental policy decisions - a wise policy as the majority of the public is clueless about these decisions.  Too many PETA lovers would get involved and influence policy decisions, and make people vote in ways that are detrimental to wildlife management and the environment.  Environmental/wildlife managment is NEVER a good thing when dictated by public vote.

That said, I HIGHLY encourage you to learn more about the reasoning behind the dept's proposals, and understand their side of the issue.  With that information in hand, you'll be much better prepared to address their issues and lead them to discovery of the problems their proposal could create.  Often times, they simply aren't aware of the potential problems, but won't "listen" unless brought to their attention in a businesslike dialog. This is far more productive and influential than flat out protests and angry attacks against them.

Just my .02 from decades of experience dealing with policy makers.

That being said Glenn, I understand where you are coming from, & since I have heard about this new campaign I have done some research. I have come to the conclusion that there is really nothing that we can do about this situation as a people, & yes the politicians are in fact going to do whatever it is they please. But yes, in fact, this measure will destroy the habitat in which I fish year around, am home to, & that many other like myself call the "Delta."

Politicians are trying to pass this bill that stops the flow of fresh water into this unique ecosystem, in which to say the least is going to cause what we like to call "Brackish Waters." They measure is not going to help us here in California, but make things much worse.

There have already been 2 day at a time rally's joining boaters, supporters, & activists here in the waters, sidewalks, & parks of our states capitol trying to stop this measure for the better.

When it all comes down to it, it's never going to change, our fishing, hunting, & outdoors recreational activities are forever going to dwindle into something so small that there one day is going to be nothing left. In each generation we see this, for my dads younger days were better then mine, mine better then my children, & there's better then there children & so on down the lines.

"trying to help the delta smelt"

Sacramento politicians drains my lake (Shasta) almost every summer. They say it's to protect the delta smelt. If this project keeps them out of Shasta, I'm all for it.

I dont know anything about Kalifornia, but the NIMBY mentality doesn't help anyone...
