Big Stick Joe Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hey guys. I will be in the Travis area between late Aug an late Sept and want to do some bass fishing. I havent fished in 2 years since i moved to Germany. i was on google map and saw that Clear lake was the only "Big" body of water in the area. Are there any other bass lakes around. I will be shore fishing and read a post on here saying Clear late is awful for shore fishing. Since i'm just visiting the area for about a month, Would anyone be willing to let me tag along for a sat or sunday to fish. I have no equipment but i might pick up a cheap spinning reel just to ahore fish. What is it like fishing there at Clear lake? What is hot around Aug and Sept? Any info would be great! Thanks Joe Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 6, 2009 Super User Posted July 6, 2009 Berryessa or the Delta, both are closer to Travis than Clear Lake. Quote
Big Stick Joe Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Thanks Fourbizz for the infomation. 2 questions, 1st. How are these lakes for shore fishing? 2nd. Does Cali's game and fish offer day license for fishing or is it based off month's? (note, i havent checked the Cali game and fish website yet). Thanks Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 6, 2009 Super User Posted July 6, 2009 Both of those places are better than Clear Lake for banking, but that is not to say that they are great. Also, if you are going to be on the base itself, there are a few lakes in there that have good fish. California offers a non resident 1 and 5 day license I think, not positive. Quote
Big Stick Joe Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Great!, Thanks for the helpful infomation. Another question, what lures/setup would be perfered for shore fishing. Just to keep me mine, i will only have one pole, probley a spinning reel. Thanks Fourbizz! Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 Delta/Ponds Frog/Horny Toad ( you need braided line) If your rod isnt a MH or heavier, just go with the horny toad, and set as hard as you possibly can Senko T-rigged weightless Popper Spook Texas Rigged Brush Hog Berryessa: Shakeyhead/Darthead with a 4-6" roboworm Senko wacky rigged with a flick shake head or nose hooked with a dropshot hook Popper Spook Light football or ball head jig brown/purple with a yamamoto double tail grub on the back Thats a fairly bare bones arsenal that I would take if I only had one rod, which is likely gonna be a lighter rod. Big Stick Joe Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 Hey guys, I'll be in Cali in a few days and with labor day coming up, i would love to get out. i was doing some reading and i found an artical on Folsum Lake. Its on the opposite side of Sacamento from Travis but from what i have read, its a hot bed for bass fishing. My question is how good is it? Also, where would you shore fish from on that lake. I know that lake is Hugh so any help would be great! Also does anyone know if they rent boats? Thanks! Joe Quote
egoodie Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 California does offer day licenses, and they are about 14$ for the day.. Yes very expensive. I think that they also have a 3 day license as well. Good luck! Erik Quote
looserod Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Joe Folsom is drying up pretty quick thanks to our wonderful water usage regulations and I don't think I have ever seen boat rentals there. A better bet might be Clear Lake. It's not that far from Folsom and I think you will have better luck both with renting a boat and putting fish in it. Quote
Big Stick Joe Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks for letting me now about folsom drying up. Does anyone know of any tackle shop's around travis i can go to. Thanks! Quote
Super User David P Posted August 29, 2009 Super User Posted August 29, 2009 If you're actually staying in the AFB, I'd just fish the ponds in there. Decent fishing, don't have to drive far, and much more accessible from shore. Quote
Big Stick Joe Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Are you talking about what they call "Duck Pond" next to housing kinda close to the dorms? If there is another pond, can you let me know? Thanks Quote
