JayDub Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I'm moving there over the summer for a job. Anyone know if there are any lakes around I can catch some bass in? I may have my bass boat too if there are any that have a launch. Ill be doing alot of trout fishing, but wouldn't mind catching some smallies too. I will be in Montrose, Co but I can travel to a lake. Let me know, and any pointers would be great! Thanks. Quote
bowman30 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 How far do you want to travel? Mcphee res , by Dolores has some good sm and trout fishing. Quote
cbfishalot Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Lake Powell is a place you need to fish. It's a few hour drive but if your bringing the boat I would check it out. There are alot of good sized tournaments (bullfrog open). Mcphee is also really good at times but I heard it wasn't fishing that great. Navajo Res. Is also pretty good and holds the Colorado SM state record. Lake Powell and Navajo are a little bit of a drive but if your going to bass fish in Colorado it's always a drive. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 20, 2009 Super User Posted June 20, 2009 Chipeta Lake is right in Montrose and produces some good largemouth up over 5 - 6 pounds. We also have Connected Lakes here in Grand Junction which is even better. I'm sending you a private message. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 24, 2009 Super User Posted June 24, 2009 The Yampa River is within 3.5 hours of you and is one of the finest smallie fisheries in the west, with lots of 3 - 5 pounders. Just make sure to release them all because our division of wildlife and the US Fish and Wildlife Service has killed tens of thousands of them. Quote
