mrlitetackle Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 i haven't tried that one... but im amped on swimbaits now myself...i just purchased my first one no less than a week ago (panther martin vivif hard head, it was only 7.99 so it was a good "starter") on my first outing with it (yesterday) i caught a 7.5 and a 9.1 lb lmb... needless to say, im hooked and now am going to purchase some "nicer" swimbaits!!!! Big-Dan Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 so i went out today for about 35 mins with my new BBZ-1 shad, and well i had no bites but i had a follow up. it was raining all day and after work it stoped but was really windy. i was able to cast to the spot i wanted but my line would go off in the wind and get caught up on the rocks and bushes so i decided after 35 mins it was enough, water was a little high and dirty. anyways the thing swims amazing and the action is just so real, i have the slow sink version and even though i let it sink for a few seconds and then start to reel in slow it always makes it back up to about 1 foot from the surface, not sure if its me or that its because im fishing from shore. well ill have to go out again tommorow and try again if its not raining like the forcast says. aarogb Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I got the same color you got in the slow sink version. The bait has great action and it looks pretty realistic too. If you are just starting to use swimbaits I would go with the slow sink version because you can also use it as a wake bait. BTW, I got two nice fish on it today. This bait just has an incredible action to it. Quote
Big-Dan Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 lol i forgot about it being an online site lol been there before not sure what i was thinking about when i posted earlyer, only reason it took me an hour was because i was in rush hour traffic and construction zones. im positive ill catch some smallies with this bate just need to fish it more and better conditions. if the smallies wont bite it which i doubt, the pike will love it up here ;D Quote
Murphy Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 What size would you guys recommend for river smallies. I've been looking into these myself. I was thinking 3.5 or 4". I know they hit bigger lures, but would smallies be deterred from anything larger then 4"? TIA Quote

My favorite smallmouth lure is a pointer 128 and those things are 5" and weigh an ounce. I caught the 20" smallie in my avatar on a 128, and on the next cast I caught an 8" that was barely larger than the lure. They'll eat anything. I'm pretty sure Fish Chris has mentioned using 6" hudd swimbaits for smallmouth too. Quote
Murphy Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Thanks for the reply. I've never used anything (other then plastics) bigger then 4", but I'm going to give them a try. Off to BPS tomorrow. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 1, 2009 Super User Posted June 1, 2009 I bought the BBZ slowsink in the dirty shad about 2 months ago. I also fished it from shore, at local Shallow ponds. What I do is cast out, count to 4 and Slowly reel, then stop, give a Small twitch, and start over again..I found out that if you keep your rod tip way down, the BBZ will run a tad deeper at a slower pace, which let it swim that much better. The ponds I fish are 3-5' deep, and loaded with weeds, and snotgrass, so I try to keep mine about 2' below the surface. Use a heaver line, i.e. I'm using 10lb yozuri hybrid ultrasoft on my baitcaster. I tried it with my spinnig rig, 8 lb yozuri, and it tends to run a bit higher in the water, not much though. Still waiting for a bass to Explode on mine.. ;D Quote
Big Fish Rice Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Nice! You'll certainly enjoy using the new swimbait. I was fortanute enough to pick up a Lucky Craft 4" Ghost Minnow, used it for the first time this weekend, and caugh a smallie and also a very large crappie (couldn't believe I reeled that one in) Anyways, they're impressive. Good luck! Quote
