BassChump Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I live near Florence. Almost the exact center of the Oregon coast about 50 miles north of Coos Bay. I am relatively new to Bass fishing and I was hoping someone on here has some information on the local lakes. I have an older bass boat so very little bank fishing for me. There are tons of lakes in the area but I don't know much about them. If you have any info on them, I'd greatly appreciate your knowledge. Sutton Lake Mercer Lake Munsel Lake Cleawox Lake Woahink Lake Siltcoos Lake Tachenitch Lake Tenmile Lake Eel Lake Umpqua River Smith River Siuslaw River Thanks in advance Quote
Bass_junky Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 If this thread wsa posted just a week earlier I was in your area on vacation, would have been happy to get together. You live just a few miles from one of the premier lakes on the oregon coast TENMILE....You should be able to have lots of fun on that lake. Hit the docks with Senko's, crank the points or texas rig worm, hit the weedline with spinner baits. The lake is bout 3' low currently & has algea bloom. If you want to fish for bigger, but fewer, bass hit takenitch, best early or late in the day. Currently it is full pool and water clarity is 5-10', try bluegill colored cranks at the sunken trees or riprap on main points. If you want your arms to fall off, try the Umpqua above Scottsburg bridge for smallies. I have found best to use a 4" Rattlesnake, purple with firetail on 1/16 oz jig head but don't put your boat in try the float tube...Go up the old IP road on south side of bridge Quote
DisplacedFisherman Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I grew up on Tenmile... Havent been back home for some time but there are a plethora of Largemouths in there. Many days I spent around Lakeside hitting up different spots from the shore. Tachenitch is a very good spot also, alot of cover for the fish to hide in/under/around. I recently heard that the LM in Tenmile are really good sized these days.. And Tenmile also has pretty good Hybrid/Wiper(whatever you wish to call them) population. Sand shrimp and late evenings... hold on to your rod firmly though! They hit like a train!! One day after I retire from the military I am going back and possibly buying a cabin on the lake there....Eel lake is mostly for lake trout and Kokanee, it has a small bass population... Umpqua River, sturgeon.... Smith-smallies, salmon and steelhead.... If I remember correctly Woahink is a really good spot also... Isnt that right before you get into Florence on 101? Quote
BassChump Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 It's too bad you can't fish Tenmile. That's my favorite although I just starting fishing it a few months ago. Yes the bass are bigger there. No question about it. One of the reasons is that it's the only lake around here that you can only keep bass under 15 inches so it insures a good quality population. I usually am catching 3 to 5 pounders on a regular basis usually on Senko's. Simple, productive. With the exception of the first time I went there, I haven't been skunked there and I've introduced several people to bass fishing there. I have fished Tachenitch a couple of times but I haven't had any luck there yet but I just don't know the lake well yet. I'll figure that one out as well. I did fish Woahink a couple of times but no luck there as well. I fished Sutton Lake last week and while I have heard that it wasn't that good of a fishing lake, I did well. I caught 8 LM in about 2 hours. None of them very big, but fun and fiesty. Still trying to figure all the lakes around here but I'll have fun doing it. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Quote
rfrazier Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Glad to see you're catching a bunch of fish basschump. I think cottage grove is also a trophy lake, meaning you can't keep them over 15. Out of that list I have only fished tenmile and almost everyone in our tourney skunked, with a few picking some up with senkos around cover. Quote
